Chapter 416: Exploring the Seven-Story Demon Tower (Part 2)

749: Exploring the Seven-Story Demon Tower (Part 2)

After a fierce battle on the first floor and a brief rest, Lin Yu and the others, exhausted yet determined, slowly approached the stairs leading to the second floor. The staircase was narrow and steep, each step bearing the weight and mystery of time. As they stepped on it, a creaking sound echoed through the silent and eerie space, like an ancient sigh or some ominous omen. The oil lamps on the wall flickered, their dim light swaying and outlining the twisted and bizarre shadows of the people, as if those shadows, imbued with some sinister will, quietly followed them, waiting for their opportunity.

Ouyang Zhenghao followed Lin Yu closely, frowning and whispering, "Lin Yu, who knows what more terrifying monsters are hidden on the second floor. I'm really nervous. The first floor was tricky enough, and I don't know what I will have to face next." His eyes revealed a hint of tension and worry. Although he had experienced many dangerous missions in the 749th Bureau, he couldn't help feeling uneasy when facing the fear of the unknown.

Lin Yu turned his head slightly, looked at him firmly, reached out and patted his shoulder, comforting him: "Don't think too much, Ouyang. We have already come deep into this place, there is no way back, we can only move forward bravely. With everyone working together, we have overcome so many difficulties, and we will definitely be able to do it this time. We are shouldering the heavy responsibility of strengthening the seal of the Demon Tower and preventing disasters, and we must never retreat." In fact, Lin Yu himself knew that the road ahead would be full of difficulties and obstacles, but as the captain, he had to remain calm and convey confidence to the team members.

As they cautiously stepped onto the second floor, a strong, pungent smell of sulfur assaulted their nostrils, instantly causing them to wince and cough. This floor was vast, resembling a vast, eerie cave. Massive sarcophagi lay around, like sleeping beasts, silently resting in the darkness. Crafted from a dark stone, their surfaces were intricately engraved with runes and strange patterns. The runes glowed with a faint, eerie light, as if uttering an ancient, sinister spell. The lid of the sarcophagus was slightly ajar, and a faint stream of black smoke emanated from it. The smoke swirled and twisted like a living creature, as if awaiting its prey.

Lin Yu's expression was solemn as he quickly pulled out his sensor. Data on the sensor's screen jumped wildly, and a sharp "beep" sound echoed rapidly, indicating that the demonic aura here was not only more intense, but also that a powerful and strange force seemed to be suppressing the other demonic spirits, as if an invisible master controlled everything on this level. Lin Yu's brows knitted together, his eyes scanning the surroundings with vigilance. His voice was low and serious as he spoke, "Everyone must be extremely careful. The situation here is far more complicated than on the first level. There's a very powerful demonic spirit watching us from the shadows. If we're not careful, we could be doomed."

Upon hearing this, the team members clenched their weapons, their nerves tense, their eyes fixed on the surroundings, every slight sound causing their hearts to race. At that moment, one of the sarcophagi in the center of the room suddenly shook violently, making loud thumping noises, as if something within was desperately struggling to break free. Then, a black figure shot up from the sarcophagus like a cannonball, so fast that only a shadow remained. After circling in the air, the figure slowly descended to the ground with an eerie gust of wind, transforming into a man in a black robe.

The man was tall and slender, his face almost uncanny in its handsomeness, yet he exuded an icy aura that kept everyone at arm's length. His eyes were deep and eerie, flickering with a faint purple light, like two burning will-o'-the-wisp flames, capable of easily piercing the souls of the people, leaving them shuddering. He raised his head slightly, a cold smile playing at the corners of his mouth. His voice was deep and cold, as if it came from the Netherworld, echoing in the empty space: "You foolish humans, you truly don't know what's good for you. How dare you trespass into my territory without permission? You're simply courting death."

Lin Yu took a deep breath, suppressed the fear in his heart, took a step forward, straightened his body, and said loudly: "We are from the 749th Bureau, and we are responsible for reinforcing the seal of the Demon Tower and preventing disasters from happening. If you know what's good for you, don't stop us, otherwise, don't blame us for being rude!" Lin Yu appeared calm on the surface, but his mind was working fast, thinking about the strategy to deal with the powerful demon in front of him.

The man sneered, his laughter like the cry of a night owl, filled with mockery and disdain. "Reinforce the seal? Do you think you, lowly humans, can accomplish this? Once the seal of this demon tower is broken, it can never be restored. From the moment you set foot here, your fate is sealed. Today, you will all become my sacrifices, adding to my strength!" With that, he waved his hands in the air. With a sharp whistling sound, the lids of the surrounding sarcophagi popped open, and a thick black mist gushed out. From within the mist, a group of demonic spirit soldiers in black armor slowly emerged. They were tall, wielding a variety of weapons that shone coldly, their eyes revealing bloodlust. In unison, they charged towards the crowd.

"Fire!" Lin Yu shouted without hesitation, his voice resounding in the tense atmosphere. The team members reacted quickly, raising their rune-shaped firearms and firing at the demon soldiers. The rune-shaped firearms blasted out brilliant rays of light, like sharp swords piercing the darkness, colliding with the black mist emanating from the demon soldiers. For a moment, the light and mist intertwined. Where the light shone, the demon soldiers let out painful roars, while the black mist surged like a tide, attempting to devour everything. Shouts and the roar of gunfire echoed wildly throughout the entire layer, as if threatening to tear the entire space apart.
