749: Exploring the Seven-Story Demon Tower (Part 2)
The fierce clash between Lin Yu and the black-robed man plunged the entire second floor into chaos and tremors. As the black-robed man's power gradually dissipated, the oppressive evil aura that had been suffocating everyone also weakened. However, this brief respite did not cause everyone to relax their vigilance, for they knew that there were still five floors of unknown horrors waiting for them to face, and the task of reinforcing the seal of the Demon Tower remained imminent.
Lin Yu wearily rose from the ground. His protective suit was torn in places, and his body bore several scrapes, blood seeping through. But his gaze remained resolute. Looking at his equally exhausted but resolute teammates, a warmth welled up in his heart. "Is everyone okay? This is just the beginning. We need to keep going up and find the key to reinforcing the seal," Lin Yu said, his voice slightly hoarse with fatigue.
Ouyang Zhenghao walked up, patted Lin Yu on the shoulder, grinned and said, "Don't worry, Lin Yu, we are fine. These monsters and ghosts can't do anything to us." Although Ouyang Zhenghao tried to ease the atmosphere with a relaxed tone, his pale face and slightly trembling hands still revealed his fatigue.
After a brief rest and simple treatment of their wounds, they headed towards the stairs leading to the third floor. A faint mist filled the stairwell, a strange pale green color and a pungent medicinal smell, as if some unknown danger was hidden.
Lin Yu frowned, secretly alert in his heart: "This fog looks wrong, everyone follow me closely and be careful." He took out the sensor, but found that the data of the sensor was chaotic in the fog, the pointer jumped wildly, and made a chaotic "beep" sound, making it completely unable to detect normally.
Everyone stepped cautiously into the mist, taking every step with extreme caution. Shadows loomed in the mist, as if countless figures were swaying, yet it was impossible to discern their identities. From time to time, eerie whispers reached their ears, as if someone were whispering something softly, yet it was inaudible and made their scalps tingle.
"Lin Yu, why do I feel like there is something in the fog staring at us? This sound makes me feel creepy." A team member said in a trembling voice. He held his weapon tightly, his palms full of sweat.
Lin Yu also felt the uneasy gaze. He suppressed his uneasiness and said, "Don't scare yourselves. Stay calm and pay attention to your surroundings." But he was also worried in his heart, wondering what terrible thing was hidden in the fog.
Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed through the mist, so fast that no one could react. Then, several more shadows darted through, accompanied by a sharp laugh that echoed through the mist, making it impossible to tell which direction was which.
"What is that? Come out!" Ouyang Zhenghao shouted, firing several shots in the direction where the shadow disappeared. The light of the rune gun flickered in the mist, but it didn't hit anything.
At this moment, a team member suddenly screamed and fell to the ground. Everyone rushed over and saw several deep claw marks on his arms, with blood gushing out.
"What kind of attack is this? We can't see the enemy at all!" The team members fell into panic.
Lin Yu quickly considered his response. He realized that vision was severely limited in the fog, and he had to find a way to track down the enemy. He recalled that researchers had mentioned that some demons could lock onto targets through thermal imaging, and perhaps he could use this to his advantage.
"Don't panic, everyone! Turn on the thermal imaging function of the protective suit, so we may be able to find those hidden things!" Lin Yu shouted.
Everyone quickly followed their instructions, and sure enough, within the thermal imaging field of view, they saw a group of bat-like spirits circling in the mist. These spirits were enormous, their wingspans more than a man's height, and they emitted a strange heat.
"Open fire!" Lin Yu ordered, and everyone fired at the location of the demon spirits in the thermal image. Rune lights shone in the mist, and the demon spirits screamed and fell from the sky one by one. However, these demon spirits seemed to be fearless and continued to rush towards the crowd frantically.
During the fierce battle, Lin Yu discovered that these demons seemed to be very sensitive to light. Whenever the rune guns emitted a strong light, their movements would become slow. "Everyone concentrate your firepower and use the light to disrupt their movements!" Lin Yu shouted.
Everyone adjusted their tactics, cranking up the rune-fired weapons to maximum intensity. For a moment, a powerful light flickered through the mist, severely restricting the demons' movements. After a bitter battle, they finally wiped out the group of demons.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and continued forward. When they emerged from the fog and reached the third-floor hall, they were stunned by the sight. In the center of the hall lay a massive pool, flowing with a black liquid that emitted a sickening odor. Surrounding the pool stood a circle of massive statues, their faces twisted and horrified, as if they were enduring endless agony.
Lin Yu approached the pool, squatted down, and tried to observe the black liquid. When his hand approached the liquid, a strong suction force came, as if to suck his hand in. Lin Yu quickly withdrew his hand, secretly alert in his heart: "This liquid is strange, everyone stay away."
At that moment, the black liquid in the pool began to churn violently, and a gigantic figure slowly rose from the liquid. It was a gigantic monster, its body made up of countless black snakes, its heads twisting and hissing, and its red eyes flashing with an evil light.
"All of you intruders will become my food!" The monster's voice was low and hoarse, as if it came from liquid.
