Chapter 426: The Qinling Sacred Tree (Part 1)

749 The Qinling Sacred Tree (Part 1)

After successfully thwarting Ichirō Tanaka's sinister plot, the members of Bureau 749 hoped to enjoy a brief period of peace, a respite from the constant barrage of thrilling missions. However, fate, as if always fond of embroiling them in mysterious events, once again stirred a strange vortex in the heart of the enigmatic Qinling Mountains.

A professional archaeological team deep into the heart of the Qinling Mountains conducted routine archaeological surveys. This ancient mountain range bears the weight of thousands of years of history, and every inch of its surface may hold untold secrets. As they cautiously explored, they stumbled upon a magnificent ancient tree. Like a silent giant, the tree stood tall in this land, bearing witness to the passage of time. Its trunk was incredibly thick, so thick that even a dozen people, hand in hand, could hardly wrap their arms around it. Its bark, rough and cracked, resembled the face of a weathered elder, deeply etched with the marks of time. Most peculiarly, the trunk was covered in strange, winding lines. These lines resembled some kind of ancient, mysterious writing, or a map filled with endless mysteries, as if telling a story spanning time and space.

The news, like a bombshell, sent shockwaves through the archaeological and mystical communities. Numerous experts and scholars expressed intense interest, eager to explore the area. However, soon after the ancient tree's discovery, a series of bizarre events haunted the archaeological team.

At night, as darkness enveloped the Qinling Mountains like inky black, and the team members fell into a deep sleep, strange things quietly began to happen. Some were awakened from their sleep by a faint whisper, seemingly distant yet lingering. Though they could discern the specifics, they could only sense an indescribable eerie chill that chilled them to the bone. Others claimed to have seen a strange glow emanating from the ancient tree in the hazy night. The light, like a ghostly flame, flickered and swayed in the darkness, as if it were alive. Some even dreamed of being pulled by an invisible, cold force, as if being dragged into an endless abyss. When they awoke from these nightmares, they were dazed, their eyes filled with fear and confusion.

In just a few days, fear spread like a plague through the archaeological team, causing panic among the members and forcing the previously orderly archaeological work to be interrupted. Everyone was shrouded in the fear of the unknown, not knowing who would be the next victim.

Upon learning of this incident, Bureau 749 immediately sensed the possibility of a supernatural force hidden behind it. They quickly dispatched an elite investigation team consisting of experienced personnel including Lin Yu and Ouyang Zhenghao to the scene.

As the investigation team followed the winding, rugged mountain road deeper into the Qinling Mountains, the atmosphere grew increasingly mysterious and oppressive. Tall, dense trees obscured the sun, and the sunlight, struggling to penetrate the branches and leaves, cast only scattered specks of light, like countless pairs of prying eyes, coldly observing their every move. A light mist hung in the forest, like a thin veil, yet permeated with a damp chill, adding a touch of eerie terror to the already tranquil and profound forest. The occasional cry of an unknown bird stood out in the silence, like some ominous omen.

Ouyang Zhenghao shuddered as he gazed at the eerie surroundings, feeling a chill rising from his feet to his heart. He instinctively tightened his clothes and muttered, "Lin Yu, why does the Qinling Mountains always seem so eerie and spooky every time I come here? I wonder what terrible thing I'll encounter this time." His eyes revealed a hint of nervousness and unease, and he kept glancing around, as if something terrifying might leap out of the darkness at any moment.

Lin Yu frowned slightly, looked ahead vigilantly, and said, "Don't scare yourself, but this matter is indeed weird. After the archaeological team discovered the ancient tree, strange situations occurred one after another. This ancient tree may have a great origin, and there may be some amazing secrets hidden behind it." Lin Yu's heart was also full of doubts, but as the captain, he had to remain calm and build confidence in his team members.

Finally, they arrived at the archaeological camp. The camp was in chaos, as if it had just experienced a catastrophe. Equipment lay in disarray, and the tents were askew, as if they had been wreaked by some invisible force. The archaeologists looked panicked, their eyes filled with fear and confusion, like frightened birds, trembling at the slightest sign of trouble.

Lin Yu and the others found Professor Chen, the archaeologist leading the team. Professor Chen looked exhausted, his hair a mess, his eyes bloodshot, his face filled with worry and helplessness. His lips trembled slightly, as if he wanted to say something but didn't know where to begin.

Lin Yu walked forward with concern and asked softly, "Professor Chen, can you tell us in detail about the circumstances behind the discovery of the ancient tree? Any details may be helpful to our investigation."

Professor Chen sighed, his voice full of fatigue and helplessness, and he slowly said: "Ever since the discovery of the ancient tree, the team members began to feel something was wrong. First, some people said they heard strange noises, like someone whispering in their ears, but they couldn't hear the content clearly. The voice was like a ghost, eerie, and made people feel creepy. Then some people began to have nightmares. It seemed that they were being chased by something in the dream. The feeling of fear was so real that it seemed as if death was right in front of them. I thought it was just that everyone was too tired and under great mental pressure, but the situation became more and more serious. Some team members even had hallucinations during the day." Professor Chen said, with a look of fear on his face, as if he was recalling those terrible scenes again.
