Chapter 43: The Mysterious Guardian

Mysterious Guardian

Faced with the monster's threat, Lin Yu feigned composure, his gaze fixed on the monster, trying to find a flaw in its distorted expression. "No matter what kind of guardian you are, we simply intruded unintentionally and want to escape alive!" Lin Yu shouted, his voice echoing through the silent forest with a hint of determination and resolve. His heartbeat raced, but he tried to maintain composure, not letting his fear show. "We harbor no ill intentions, and we do not wish to violate any of the rules of this land." He silently prayed, hoping the monster would show some mercy.

The strange man snorted coldly, his voice like a sharp icy spike, piercing everyone's eardrums. "No intention? This place isn't for everyone. If you're here, you'll have to pay the price!" His eyes revealed a fierceness, as if he wanted to devour them alive. His body trembled slightly, as if he was suppressing his inner anger. "You ignorant intruders, you've destroyed the tranquility here!" His words were filled with hatred for them.

Suna stepped forward, a pleading look in her eyes. "We've been through so much danger. Please, spare us." Her voice was soft and trembling, her hands clenched tightly, her knuckles white from the strain. "We really don't know the taboos here. Please, have mercy." Her heart was filled with fear and helplessness, but to survive, she had to muster the courage to plead with the strange man.

Old Chen clenched the branch in his hand, his arms trembling slightly with nervousness. "At worst, I'll fight you!" Old Chen roared, his face filled with anger and determination. "We won't surrender easily. Even if we die, we must die with dignity!" He was filled with resentment. He didn't want to be manipulated by this weirdo. He was ready to fight for his life.

The strange man let out a strange laugh that echoed through the forest, sending chills down one's spine. "Just you? You overestimate your abilities!" His laughter was filled with mockery and contempt, as if he saw their resistance as nothing more than a farce. "Do you think you have the ability to stand up to me? How naive!" His eyes flashed with disdain, as if he were looking at a group of ants.

At this moment, Lin Yu noticed some strange symbols on the strange man's clothing. They were faintly visible, emitting a mysterious glow. "What do these symbols mean? Perhaps they hold the key to our escape," Lin Yu thought, his gaze fixed on them, trying to decipher their secrets. "These symbols may be related to our escape. We must find a way to figure it out." He secretly pondered a strategy.

"What do you want?" Lin Yu asked loudly, his voice tinged with urgency. "We've had enough of this. Just tell us what we need to do to get out of here!" His eyes were filled with longing, hoping the weirdo would give a clear answer.

The weirdo was silent for a moment, his eyes sweeping over everyone, as if weighing something. "You won't be able to leave unless you pass my test," the weirdo finally spoke, a hint of mystery in his voice.

"What test?" the team members asked in unison, their voices filled with tension and anticipation.

The strange man pointed to a dark path nearby. The path twisted and turned, disappearing into the thick fog. "Follow this path to the end. If you can come out alive, you'll pass." The strange man's voice sounded particularly eerie in the fog.

Everyone looked at each other, not knowing what to do. Their eyes were fixed on the dark path, their hearts filled with fear and hesitation.

"This could be a trap," one team member whispered, his voice filled with worry. "We can't trust him easily. This could be a dead end." Fear flashed in his eyes, and he involuntarily took a step back.

But Lin Yu gritted his teeth, a glint of determination flashing in his eyes. "There's no other choice. Let's go!" Lin Yu said, his voice filled with unquestionable determination. "If this is our only chance, we must try." Although his heart was filled with fear, he knew that retreat would lead to death.

So they set foot on the dark path carefully, each step filled with fear and uneasiness, as if the ground beneath their feet would swallow them up at any time.

Thick fog hung on both sides of the road, moving around them like a white ghost. A pungent smell mingled with the fog, making them feel dizzy. From time to time, strange noises could be heard, like the low moans of wild animals or the cries of ghosts.

"Everyone, be careful!" Lin Yu warned, his voice faint in the fog. His flashlight was pale and powerless in the mist, illuminating only a small area ahead. "Don't get separated. Stay alert." His heartbeat raced, and every breath was filled with nervousness.

Suddenly, a giant bat swooped down on them. Its wings spread wide, blocking out the light overhead. Its eyes flashed red, and a sharp cry emanated from its mouth.

"Ah!" A team member screamed in fright.

Lin Yu raised the flashlight and shone it towards the bat. "Don't be afraid, hit it with something!" Lin Yu shouted.

Everyone waved branches and stones to try to drive away the bats, but the bats circled in the air and kept attacking them.

"Watch out for its claws!" Suna shouted.

Lao Chen smashed the branch in his hand hard at the bat, but the bat dodged sideways and continued to pounce on them.

In the chaos, Lin Yu discovered that the bat's weakness seemed to be in its abdomen. "Attack its abdomen!" Lin Yu shouted loudly.

Everyone concentrated their firepower and attacked the bat's abdomen. The bat finally couldn't bear it anymore and flew away screaming.

"Huh..." Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and continued to move forward cautiously.

But they don't know that more dangers are waiting for them ahead...
