Chapter 431: The Yellow River Snake Girl (Part 2)

749 The Yellow River Snake Girl (Part 2)

The night, like a heavy, black silk, seamlessly enveloped the world, tightly enveloping the surging Yellow River. Like predators lurking in the darkness, Lin Yu and his companions hid in the dense, deep grass along the shore. The mosquitoes in the grass seemed to sense the tense, oppressive atmosphere, their buzzing becoming especially cautious. The team members stared intently at the river, which grew increasingly mysterious in the night, their nerves tense like strings about to snap. The surroundings were eerily silent, the only sound piercing the stillness like thunder, like the muffled heartbeat of the earth, or the echoing of some ancient, sinister curse.

Time seemed to freeze in this tense wait, every second stretching infinitely longer. Ouyang Zhenghao felt his legs go numb from holding the same position for so long, but he didn't dare move a single muscle, fearing that even the slightest sound would disrupt the eerie silence and usher in an unknown terror. Finally, he couldn't help himself. He tilted his head slightly, lowered his voice, and whispered, lips barely moving, "Lin Yu, it's been so long, and there's still no movement. Will the snake woman appear tonight? I'm so uncertain waiting here." His voice was so low it was almost drowned out by the roar of the Yellow River, but in the stillness of the night, it reached Lin Yu's ears clearly, carrying a hint of fatigue and doubt that was difficult to conceal, as well as a vague sense of unease.

Lin Yu frowned slightly, his eyes fixed on the river, not daring to lose focus. He whispered, "Wait a little longer. Since it's appeared so frequently before, tonight should be no exception. We can't let our guard down. We must get to the bottom of this. Times like this require even more patience." Lin Yu wasn't sure if the mysterious snake woman would actually reappear tonight. But he knew that as captain, he had to remain calm, instill confidence in his team, and not show the slightest sign of wavering.

At that moment, the seemingly calm river surface suddenly began to ripple, as if someone had gently dropped a stone. At first, the ripples were barely noticeable, but then they expanded with astonishing speed, interweaving and colliding with each other, as if something immense and sinister was quietly swimming beneath the surface, disturbing the tranquility. Then, a massive splash of water shot up into the sky, like a blooming black flower in the night, and the blurry light and shadow reappeared before everyone's eyes.

This time, the light and shadow seemed even clearer than before. Under the hazy moonlight and the faint reflections of the river, one could vaguely make out the upper body of a woman with long, flowing hair. Her hair, like black silk, danced freely in the night breeze, obscuring most of her face. Only a pair of eyes, emitting a faint blue light, were visible. They were cold and eerie, as if they could see into everyone's soul. The lower body, a thick, scaly snake tail, swung vigorously in the water, each movement sending up large splashes of water that splattered all around.

"Here it comes!" Lin Yu whispered. Though his voice was low, it struck every team member like a hammer, striking their hearts. He quickly signaled for them to remain silent and not act rashly. Their hearts raced, their chests pounding as they watched the bizarre scene unfold before them, not daring to breathe.

The snake woman's silhouette swam slowly across the water. Wherever she passed, the surrounding water, as if manipulated by an invisible yet powerful force, swirled rapidly, forming a massive vortex. The water at the vortex's center flowed like a black hole, frantically devouring everything around it, emitting a whirring sound like the roar of a demon. Suddenly, the snake woman's silhouette emitted a strange sound, a voice that sounded like a woman's plaintive moan and the angry hiss of a venomous snake. The two sounds intertwined to form an eerie melody that echoed in the night sky, penetrating the ears of everyone and sending a chill down their spines.

Lin Yu was shocked, his brain working rapidly in an extremely nervous state. He thought to himself: "Does this sound have any special function? Or is it conveying some kind of information? Is it a warning, or a summons? What kind of secret is hidden behind this?" He tried to keep calm, trying to find even the slightest clue from this weird scene, but the uneasiness in his heart spread like a vine.

At that moment, a slight movement suddenly erupted from the brush on the shore. Lin Yu's heart suddenly tensed, his nerves instantly straining to the limit. He quickly turned to see a hare darting panickedly from the brush, as if frightened by something horrifying. Its eyes widened with fear, and it desperately ran towards the river, its steps hurried and frantic. As it reached the river's edge, the snake woman, as if sensing its prey, suddenly extended an ethereal yet seemingly tangible arm. Like a flash of black lightning, it instantly seized the hare. Before the hare could even utter a scream, it was instantly dragged into the water. Only a rapidly spreading ripple remained on the surface of the water, and soon calm returned, as if everything had just been a nightmare that had never happened.

Ouyang Zhenghao widened his eyes, his eyes filled with fear and shock, and whispered: "This... this is too horrible, this snake girl can really hurt people! In just a moment, the hare is gone. That idiot... could it be that he was really killed by this snake girl..." He didn't dare to think further, his heart was filled with fear and worry, and his body couldn't help but tremble slightly.

Lin Yu's expression was as solemn as the sky covered with dark clouds. He said, "It seems that this snake woman is not just a shadow, she possesses some kind of substantial power. But what is the root of all this? Why did she suddenly appear in the Yellow River? How is this related to the changes in the Yellow River and the suffering of the villagers? There must be a huge mystery hidden behind this, and we must solve it."

The snake woman's shadow seemed to have sensed someone on the shore, and she slowly turned her head towards where Lin Yu and the others were hiding. Although they couldn't see her face clearly, everyone could feel a chilling gaze coming from her, as if they were being stared at by a venomous snake. They felt uncomfortable all over, and goose bumps instantly covered their bodies.

"Everyone be careful, it has discovered us!" Lin Yu said nervously, and at the same time subconsciously tightened the weapon in his hand. His palms were full of sweat and the handle of the weapon was soaked.

The snake woman's shadow let out a sharp hiss, and the sound was like a sharp arrow, piercing the night sky and making everyone's eardrums hurt. Then, it swam towards the shore, as fast as a ghost. As it approached, the river became more turbulent, and the huge waves, like an angry beast, slammed towards the shore frantically, making a deafening sound. Lin Yu shouted, "Quickly retreat!" Everyone quickly stood up and ran to the back, the ground under their feet was trampled into dust. However, the snake woman's shadow was extremely fast and reached the shore in an instant. It stretched out its long snake tail, like a giant black python, and swept towards everyone...
