Chapter 438: The Fight in the Ancient Yunnan Cave (Part 1)

The Ancient Yunnan Cave Magic Battle (Part 1)

After the mysterious disappearance of Pan Bowen in Tianjin, the members of Bureau 749 had just enjoyed a moment of peace when an urgent, confidential letter shattered the tranquility like thunder. The letter originated from a remote village on the Yunnan border, and the details it contained were horrifying.

The letter described an ancient cave hidden deep in the mountains adjacent to the village. Lately, every midnight, when all is quiet, a strange light would erupt from the cave. This light was vibrant and yet possessed an indescribable eerie quality, as if it were a glimpse from another world. Simultaneously, various eerie noises could be heard from the cave, sometimes like the howling of ghosts and wolves, sometimes like deep curses, as if countless wronged souls were struggling and wailing within.

Some daring villagers, driven by curiosity and fearlessness, attempted to explore the cave. However, anyone who ventured into the vicinity returned dazed, their eyes wandering, and they muttered incomprehensible words, as if possessed by some sinister force. Some even vanished without a trace after entering the cave, never to be heard from again. The villagers were terrified, a pall of fear hanging over them. Convinced that the evil spirits within the cave were at work, they desperately sought help from Unit 749.

Lin Yu, Ouyang Zhenghao, and Chen Yao were once again entrusted with the task of embarking on a journey fraught with uncertainty and danger. After a long and arduous journey, they finally arrived at this remote village. Upon entering, Lin Yu was acutely aware of a suffocating, almost oppressive atmosphere. The villagers looked at them with fear and wariness, as if they were not saviors but messengers of doom. They stood back, whispering among themselves, their eyes sizing up their uninvited guests.

Ouyang Zhenghao frowned, looked at the dodging villagers, and whispered to Lin Yu: "Lin Yu, this village has a gloomy atmosphere, as if it is cursed. It seems that this matter is quite troublesome. The reactions of those villagers are too abnormal." He lowered his voice unconsciously, as if he was afraid of disturbing the evil forces hidden in the dark.

Lin Yu nodded slightly, his eyes as heavy as the dark clouds before a storm. "Yes, judging by the description in the secret letter and the villagers' current state, the secrets behind this cave are probably far greater than we imagined. We must quickly gain a deeper understanding of the situation and find the key to solving the problem, otherwise this shadow of fear will continue to hang over this village." Lin Yu knew the difficulty and urgency of this mission. Every second of delay could lead to more danger.

Chen Yao pushed her glasses up on her nose, her eyes gleaming with wisdom and worry. "The light and sounds emanating from the cave, along with the villagers' strange reactions, are most likely related to some supernatural force or ancient, sinister spell. We may be facing a complex puzzle, and we must be fully prepared. Every detail could be the key to solving it." As the team's expert in mysticism, Chen Yao possessed a keen understanding of such strange phenomena, but even so, she could sense the thorny nature of this incident.

After much searching, the three finally tracked down the village chief. He was a gray-haired old man, his face etched with the marks of time. Worry, even more so, made him look haggard, his eyes revealing endless fear and helplessness. Led by the chief, they arrived at a dilapidated house. The room was dimly lit, and filled with an air of decay and staleness, as if time had stood still.

The village chief slowly sat down, his expression solemn, and began to recount the events. "This cave has existed near our village for who knows how many years, and it's always been peaceful. About a month ago, a few energetic young men from the village heard a strange noise while working in the mountains. It sounded like someone calling them, and bewildered, they followed the sound and found the cave. Since then, terrible things have happened one after another. First, the young men returned mad, their eyes empty, and they spoke incomprehensible words. Then, people started disappearing, no one saw them alive, no one saw them dead. We invited a respected village wizard to perform a ritual to try to dispel the evil spirit, but unexpectedly, the wizard disappeared without a trace, simply vanishing into thin air." As the village chief spoke, his body trembled uncontrollably, as if the terrifying scenes were replaying before his eyes.

Lin Yu listened intently, his mind thick with doubt. "Village chief, does this cave have any special legends? Or did something similar happen long ago? Any clue could help us solve this problem." Lin Yu knew that ancient legends often concealed the root causes of events, and he tried to unearth those secrets buried by time from the village chief's narration.

The village chief pondered for a long time, his face wrinkled as if trying to awaken long-forgotten memories. "I've heard from the older generation that this cave was the site of a duel between two powerful wizards. During that battle, the sky darkened, and the sun and moon lost their light. It's said that one wizard harbored evil intentions, seeking to control a forbidden power, and the other fought a desperate battle to stop him. Ultimately, the evil wizard was sealed in the cave, but the passage of time has left no clear explanation of the circumstances. All we know is that since then, the cave has been considered forbidden, and no one dares approach easily." The village chief's story only deepened the cave's mystery, like layer after layer of fog, burying the truth.
