749 Bureau Exposes the Tibetan Flesh Lotus Incident (Part 1)
After successfully solving the mysterious train disappearance case, the 749th Bureau's trio of Lin Yu, Ouyang Zhenghao, and Shen Yao have just returned to the bureau when they are embroiled in a new mystery. An anonymous letter from a remote region of Tibet, like a quietly falling black feather, rests quietly on the bureau chief's desk, stirring up unsettling ripples.
The handwriting on the letter was distorted, as if hastily written in utter terror. Unspeakable horror emanated from the lines. The letter described a series of strange occurrences near an ancient Tibetan village, all closely linked to a mysterious entity known as the "Meat Lotus." The letter described how, every night, like a vast black silk covering the earth, a strange mist would suddenly and without warning fill the area around the village. The mist was a murky grayish-white, as if shaped by the resentment of countless wronged souls, shimmering eerily in the moonlight. Within the mist, a strange sound, like the blooming of a lotus flower, could be faintly heard. It wasn't the gentle, beautiful sound one would normally imagine, but rather a dull, heaviness, as if emanating from the depths of hell. The faint aroma of meat wafted through the air, but this aroma was mingled with a faint, rancid stench that was nauseating. Some villagers lost their way in the fog. When they finally struggled back to the village, they woke up unconscious and kept muttering "Meat Lotus". Their eyes were empty, as if their souls had been taken away by some evil force.
The director, fully aware of the gravity of this matter, drew on his years of experience at the 749th Investigation Station to discern the possibility of a paranormal crisis. Consequently, he dispatched the experienced trio of Lin Yu, the courageous Ouyang Zhenghao, and the esotericist Chen Yao to Tibet to investigate. Upon receiving their assignment, the trio packed their bags without hesitation and set foot on this mysterious and perilous land.
After a long and bumpy journey, they finally arrived at their remote Tibetan village. Nestled at the foot of snow-capped mountains, the village was surrounded by towering peaks that reached the clouds. Like silent giants, the peaks, draped in white, shone dazzlingly in the sunlight, their reflections like countless sharp blades, as if warning outsiders to stay away. In stark contrast to the majestic peaks, the village was filled with an atmosphere of oppression and fear, as if an invisible, dark hand was gripping the village.
The moment they entered the village, the villagers looked at them with wariness and fear, as if they were not saviors but messengers of misfortune. The villagers ducked for cover like frightened birds, and children were hurriedly pulled inside. Occasionally, a pair of frightened eyes peeked out from behind closed doors and windows, secretly observing their every move.
After asking around, Lin Yu and the other two finally found the village chief. He was a white-haired old man, his face furrowed by the years, each line a testament to the hardships the village had endured. His eyes betrayed a deep worry, as if carrying the fear and despair of the entire village. Led by the village chief, they arrived at a small cottage in the village. The light was dim, with only a few rays of sunlight struggling to squeeze in through the narrow windows, forming thin beams that could not dispel the oppressive gloom within. The air was filled with the scent of burning butter lamps, mixed with the stale air, making one feel as if they were in a corner forgotten by time.
The village chief slowly sat down, his movements slow and heavy, as if he were carrying a heavy burden. After a moment's silence, he finally spoke, his voice low and trembling, as if every word exhausted all his strength: "You are finally here. The recent events in our village are truly horrific. We have never seen this 'Meat Lotus' before, and we don't know what it is. We only know that since its appearance, the village has never had peace." The village chief's eyes revealed a deep fear, as if the mere mention of the "Meat Lotus" would awaken the terrifying existence hidden in the darkness.
Lin Yu's brow furrowed, his eyes gleaming with focus and determination. He knew that to solve this mystery, he had to start with the smallest clues. "Village Chief, could you please elaborate on the specific circumstances surrounding the appearance of this 'Meat Lotus'? For example, when did it first appear? Were there any special signs? Any small detail could be the key to unlocking this mystery." Lin Yu's voice was steady and powerful, attempting to reassure the village chief, allowing him to calm down and recall more useful information. At this moment, Lin Yu's heart was filled with both curiosity about the unknown and a subtle fear of the immense danger lurking beneath the surface. He knew that every time he faced a supernatural event, it was like groping in the dark; a single misstep could lead to a situation from which there was no return.
The village chief recalled, a trace of fear flashed in his eyes, as if he had returned to that terrible night. "About a month ago, a young man in the village went hunting in the mountains at night. We rarely go to that forest because there are some ancient legends that say there are unclean things there. But the boy was brave, and in order to get more prey for his family, he went anyway. On the way back, it was already very late, and suddenly, he encountered that layer of strange fog. The fog came without warning and surrounded him in an instant. He said that in the fog, he saw a huge lotus that seemed to be made of flesh slowly blooming. The petals of the lotus looked wet, as if they had just been fished out of a pool of blood. Similarly, strange noises were heard, like someone groaning in pain, or the weeping of countless wronged souls. When he finally emerged from the fog, something seemed off about him. He kept muttering "Meat Lotus," his eyes hollow, and he died a few days later. Since then, similar incidents have occurred one after another. Several villagers went out at night and encountered the same fog. When they returned, they became unconscious and died not long after. The village chief's voice grew lower and lower, until it almost became a mutter, as if those horrific scenes were still replaying before his eyes.
