Chapter 456: Chongqing Weirdness 108th Floor (Part 1)

Chongqing's Mysterious 108th Floor (Part 1)

After resolving the crisis at "Broken Head Mountain," Lin Yu, Ouyang Zhenghao, and Shen Yao returned to Bureau 749, expecting a respite. However, a new mission loomed like a shadow. An urgent document quietly landed on Lin Yu's desk. The cover carried a solemn and cold air, as if foreshadowing the unusual nature of its contents. Lin Yu slowly flipped open the document, his brow furrowing as his gaze wandered between the lines. A chill crept quietly into his heart.

The document details a series of strange events surrounding Building 108, an abandoned building in Chongqing known locally as the "ghost building." Construction on the building, begun in 1993, abruptly halted on the eve of completion. For the next 30 years, it stood like a cursed island, untouched by human presence. Accounts from nearby residents further embellished the building with layers of mystery and terror.

Lin Yu muttered to himself, "The situation in Building 108 doesn't sound simple. Since the construction was inexplicably stopped in 1993, strange things have happened one after another. The descriptions of nearby residents and the discoveries of those explorers and inspectors all reveal an indescribable weirdness." His voice echoed in the quiet office, but it seemed to be quickly swallowed up by some invisible force, without stirring up any unnecessary ripples.

At that moment, Ouyang Zhenghao carelessly pushed open the door. Seeing Lin Yu's solemn expression, he curiously approached, snatched up the documents, and quickly scanned them. "Wow, this building is a veritable collection of supernatural phenomena! The windows are always filled with dusk light, and there are dreams of little girls in red dresses. This is too weird," Ouyang Zhenghao exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with excitement. He couldn't suppress his excitement for such challenging mysteries, as if the spirit of adventure ran through his blood. However, beneath that excitement, he also felt a subtle unease. But years of adventure had conditioned him to mask his inner fear with a seemingly fearless attitude.

Chen Yao then walked into the office with a steady gait. She pushed her glasses, her eyes calm and penetrating behind them. Upon hearing Ouyang Zhenghao's words, she didn't immediately respond, but instead pondered quietly. After a moment, she said, "From these clues, it seems the problem with this building is connected to time, space, and some unknown supernatural phenomenon. Each of these oddities may hold the key to solving the mystery. We need a thorough and thorough investigation." Chen Yao's voice was calm and steady, brimming with professional confidence, but a slight frown betrayed the seriousness of her commitment to this complex mission. As an expert in the occult, she was eager to explore these complex supernatural phenomena, yet she was also well aware of the dangers they posed.

Lin Yu nodded and said, "That's right. This mission is probably more difficult than the previous ones. Let's pack up and set off for Chongqing as soon as possible." The three of them quickly packed up their equipment and embarked on their journey to Chongqing.

After arriving in Chongqing, they headed straight for the area where Building 108 stood. From afar, Building 108 stood alone in a desolate landscape, overgrown with weeds, a corner forgotten by civilization. The building appeared dilapidated, with large swathes of paint peeling off, revealing a mottled surface that resembled a series of weathered and distorted faces, silently telling of the vicissitudes and strangeness of time. The windows were covered in thick dust and tangled spiderwebs. In the afterglow of the setting sun, the windows, shimmering with dusk, looked particularly eerie, like empty, lifeless eyes, coldly observing their arrival. Each glance seemed to penetrate their souls, sending a chill down their spines.

"This building looks eerie, no wonder it's called the 'Ghost Building,'" Ouyang Zhenghao muttered, his hand unconsciously reaching for the weapon at his waist. Although he had always been brave, he felt an inexplicable chill at this moment, as if countless pairs of eyes were watching their every move from the shadows. This chill ran up his spine, making him shiver.

Lin Yu and Shen Yao remained silent, their eyes wary and focused as they carefully observed every detail of the building. Approaching the building, they found the door ajar. A stale, decaying smell filled their faces—a mixture of dampness, mold, and the dust of time, almost suffocating as it emanated from the abyss of time. Lin Yu gently pushed the door open, and the door hinges creaked harshly, echoing in the silent hallway like the building's painful groans, or an ancient, evil curse, foreshadowing their entry into a world of unknown fear.

The hallway was filled with a damp, moldy smell. The light was extremely dim, with only the eerie twilight light filtering through the windows barely illuminating a small area. The paint on the walls had peeled badly, revealing the yellowed bricks underneath. Some areas were covered with green moss, which shimmered eerily in the dim light, as if the moss had absorbed the evil power within the building.

"This place feels like it's been abandoned for decades. I never thought its eerie legends could be true," Chen Yao said. She pulled out a small instrument and began to scan the surrounding environmental data, hoping to find any clues to any anomalies. The indicator light on the instrument flickered, emitting a faint glow that seemed particularly eerie in the dim environment. Chen Yao stared at the screen, her eyes revealing concentration and tension. Every tick of data could be the key to solving the mystery, and she was fully aware of the heavy responsibility she shouldered.

The three of them walked cautiously deeper into the corridor, their footsteps echoing in the empty hallway, each step akin to a heartbeat. The air around them seemed frozen, the silence so agonizing it made one's eardrums ache. Suddenly, Ouyang Zhenghao stopped and pointed at the ground. "Look, the dust here looks like something has swept through it. There's a clear trail." His voice trembled slightly, breaking the suffocating silence.
