Chongqing's Mysterious 108th Floor (Part 2)
Lin Yu and the other two slowly ascended the stairs. The eerie, lamentable sound grew clearer, like an invisible hand gripping their hearts. The corridor was filled with a suffocating, oppressive atmosphere, every inch of air thick with fear, making it hard to breathe. The dim lights on the walls flickered, as if ready to go out at any moment, plunging them into a dark abyss. The flickering light and shadows, like snarling ghosts, danced freely around them, seemingly teasing and threatening.
Ouyang Zhenghao's palms were covered in sweat, and his hand, tightly gripping the weapon, was trembling slightly. His eyes were wide open as he scanned the surroundings vigilantly. Every slight movement would instantly make his nerves tense. "This sound makes my heart creep out. It feels like countless pairs of eyes are watching us from the dark." He spoke in a low voice. His voice echoed in the silent corridor, but it seemed to be swallowed by some evil force, leaving only a faint tail sound, adding a bit of eeriness. At this moment, his heartbeat accelerated sharply, and it seemed to be about to burst through his chest. Although he always prided himself on his bravery, in this environment full of unknown terrors, fear still surged into his heart like a tide. He couldn't help but wonder what kind of evil was hidden in this building, and why was there such a chilling sound? Every possible speculation made his spine shiver.
Chen Yao stared intently at the instrument in her hand, trying to find some clue from the changing data. The values on the instrument kept jumping, indicating that the surrounding magnetic field was abnormally chaotic and the temperature was dropping rapidly, as if they were stepping into an icy hell. "This change in magnetic field and temperature is extremely abnormal. It is likely related to the source of the sound," Chen Yao said. Although she tried to remain calm, the slight tremor in her voice betrayed her inner tension. As an expert in the occult, she had witnessed many supernatural phenomena, but this situation left her feeling unprecedented confusion and unease. She quickly sorted out various possible explanations in her mind, but she could not determine the force that caused such extreme environmental changes. This uncertainty filled her with anxiety.
Lin Yu's brows were furrowed, his eyes revealing determination and vigilance. He knew that he had to remain calm at this moment. As the backbone of the team, his every move was related to everyone's life and death. "Everyone follow me closely and stay alert. No matter what happens, don't panic." Lin Yu whispered, his voice steady and powerful, trying to convey confidence and strength to his teammates. However, his heart was also full of worries, not knowing what kind of terrifying existence was waiting for them ahead. He kept reminding himself that he must keep a clear head and lead everyone through this crisis safely, but the strange sound that was getting closer and closer made his heart beat faster involuntarily.
As they drew closer to the source of the sound, the surroundings grew increasingly eerie. Strange water stains began to appear on the walls, shaped like distorted human faces, as if silently speaking of pain and despair. The water slowly flowed down the walls, pooling on the ground into puddles of black water that exuded a sickening stench. These stains seemed to have life, constantly wriggling and deforming. The distorted faces were sometimes hideous, sometimes mournful, as if recounting the tragic stories of the building's past.
"What...what is this?" Ouyang Zhenghao said in horror, pointing at the water stains on the wall, his eyes filled with fear and disgust. At this moment, he felt a strong urge to vomit, but he suppressed it, not daring to relax even a little. Horrifying images involuntarily surfaced in his mind, and he wondered if these water stains were the resentment of those who had died in vain. The thought made his body tremble uncontrollably.
Lin Yu carefully observed the water stains and said, "These don't look like ordinary water stains. They might be related to the supernatural phenomena in the building. Let's keep going and see if we can find more clues." Lin Yu's eyes revealed determination. Although the scene before him gave him a chill, he had no intention of retreating. He knew that retreat would only make the situation worse. Only by moving forward courageously could he have a chance to uncover the truth of all this.
When they reached the third floor, the strange noise suddenly stopped, replaced by a dead silence. It was so still that it hurt, as if the entire world had been muted. Lin Yu and the other two stopped and looked around warily, unsure what this sudden silence meant. This silence was even more terrifying than the strange noise. It was like the calm before the storm, filling one's heart with unease and fear.
"Why did the sound suddenly disappear? Is there some conspiracy?" Ouyang Zhenghao asked nervously, his eyes shifting, trying to catch any sign of abnormality in the darkness. His heart was filled with anxiety, not knowing when and where danger would suddenly strike. He felt like prey caught in a trap, vulnerable to being slain by a hunter lurking in the darkness.
Lin Yu signaled everyone to be quiet, listening carefully to the surroundings. Suddenly, he heard a gentle sound of footsteps coming from the other end of the corridor. The footsteps were slow and heavy, as if a giant were dragging a heavy body along. Each step was accompanied by a slight vibration in the floor, which was particularly clear in the silent corridor. The footsteps were like a heavy hammer, hammering at their hearts and making their nerves even more tense.
"Someone's coming!" Lin Yu whispered, quickly raising his weapon and preparing for battle. Ouyang Zhenghao and Shen Yao also immediately became nervous, following closely behind Lin Yu, their eyes fixed on the direction of the footsteps. Their breathing became rapid and heavy, and every heartbeat seemed to be a countdown, waiting for the unknown danger to appear.
