Chapter 464: Skinner (Part 1)

Chen Yao quickly pulled out her instrument and began meticulously examining the surrounding energy field. The indicator light on the instrument flashed rapidly, and the data jumped continuously, indicating unusual fluctuations in the surrounding energy field. "The energy field here is quite unusual, with faint but persistent fluctuations. However, at this point, we cannot confirm whether these fluctuations are directly related to the Skin Walker." Chen Yao stared at the data on the instrument, her brows furrowed slightly, her eyes revealing confusion and worry. She tried to find clues to the Skin Walker from these abnormal fluctuations, but the patterns were extremely complex, making it difficult to discern the clues.

The three of them followed the footprints and the direction of the energy fluctuations, cautiously walking deeper into the forest. The forest was eerily quiet, as if time had stopped there. Their footsteps were particularly loud in the silent environment, and every step seemed to be stepping on their own heartbeats. Occasionally, a breeze blew, and the leaves rustled, as if the forest was whispering an ancient and terrifying story. Ouyang Zhenghao felt that his nerves were stretched to the limit, and every slight movement would make his heartbeat suddenly accelerate. He always felt that something was staring at them in the darkness, and the feeling of being spied on made him feel uncomfortable.

"Why do I feel like I'm being watched by something? Am I too nervous?" Ouyang Zhenghao said with lingering fear, his voice trembling slightly. His eyes searched frantically in the surrounding woods, trying to find the source of the spying, but he could see nothing except dense woods and swaying shadows.

Lin Yu glanced around warily, his eyes revealing a keen sense of alertness. "Perhaps you're not overly nervous. This forest is indeed filled with a strange aura. It's very likely that something is secretly following us. Everyone must be vigilant and be prepared for any emergency." Lin Yu knew that in such an unknown and dangerous environment, any negligence could have fatal consequences. His mind raced, constantly monitoring his surroundings and thinking about how to protect his teammates if danger arose, formulating a reasonable response strategy.

Just then, a slight rustling sound could be heard not far away, as if something was quietly moving through the grass. Though faint, the sound was remarkably clear in the silent forest, like an invisible hand gripping their hearts. The three of them immediately stopped, held their breath, and stared intently at the direction of the sound. Their hearts pounded violently in their chests, threatening to burst through. A dark figure flashed through the grass like a ghost, so fast that only a blurry afterimage remained, leaving no time to see its appearance.

"What's that?" Ouyang Zhenghao nervously gripped his weapon, his voice slightly distorted by fear. His eyes widened as he tried to spot the shadow in the darkness, but it had vanished without a trace, leaving behind only an eerie silence.

Lin Yu's expression was serious, staring at the direction where the black shadow disappeared: "I didn't see it clearly, it was too fast. But we can be sure that something is following us in this forest. Let's keep moving forward and see if we can find more clues. But we must stay vigilant and not relax at all." Lin Yu's voice was steady and firm. Although his heart was full of doubts and vigilance, he knew that he could not retreat at this moment. He must lead his teammates to go deeper and uncover the truth behind it.

They continued cautiously deeper into the forest, their surroundings growing increasingly eerie and terrifying as they went deeper. The trees grew taller and thicker, their branches intertwined more tightly, making it nearly impossible for sunlight to penetrate, plunging the surroundings into a gloomy darkness. Occasionally, they could see strangely shaped trees, their twisted branches resembling monstrous creatures with bared fangs and claws, as if revealing the terrifying secrets of the forest's depths. Suddenly, a sharp, rapid alarm blared from Chen Yao's monitoring equipment, shattering the forest's silence.

"What's going on?" Lin Yu asked vigilantly, his eyes quickly cast on the instrument in Chen Yao's hand.

Chen Yao stared at the instrument, her expression instantly growing serious. "The energy fluctuations are becoming unusually strong, and they're not far ahead of us. Both the intensity and frequency of these fluctuations are beyond normal ranges. It seems something powerful is approaching." Chen Yao's voice trembled slightly, and her eyes betrayed worry and fear. As an expert in the occult, she knew that these abnormal energy fluctuations often signaled great danger, and that what they were about to face might be an unprecedented terror.

The three of them exchanged glances, their eyes gleaming with determination. They slowly walked toward the energy fluctuations, their steps heavy and slow, each one akin to treading on the brink of life and death. In a clearing, they discovered strange symbols carved into a massive stone. Their shapes were twisted and strange, like words from another world. The symbols exuded a mysterious and sinister aura, a terrifying presence.

"These symbols look strange, as if they hold some mysterious power. Chen Yao, can you understand them?" Ouyang Zhenghao asked nervously, his eyes filled with confusion and fear. The symbols seemed to possess a magical power that made him afraid to stare at them for too long, yet he couldn't help but want to explore their secrets.

Chen Yao crouched down, examining the symbols carefully, her eyes revealing concentration and contemplation. After a moment, she slowly spoke, "These symbols are extremely ancient, resembling the markings of some mysterious ritual. Judging from their arrangement and shape, they seem to be related to some sinister rituals I'm aware of. Perhaps they are closely linked to the appearance of the Skin Walkers. However, their precise meaning requires further study. These symbols may hold key clues to solving the mystery of the Skin Walkers, or they may conceal a great danger." Chen Yao attempted to find an explanation for these symbols from her memory of occult knowledge, but they were so rare that she struggled to determine their precise meaning.
