Chapter 464: Skinner (Part 1)

Skinner (Part 1)

Lin Yu, Ouyang Zhenghao, and Shen Yao had just returned from their thrilling adventure in the Haunted House in northern Jilin. Exhausted and barely recovered from the horror, they received another urgent mission from Bureau 749. This time, their destination was the distant and mysterious Yunnan border. Recently, several small towns there had been shrouded in a shadow of darkness, with reports of residents disappearing frequently. These strange signs pointed the finger at a terrifying creature, the Skin Walker, feared and feared worldwide.

On the plane to Yunnan, the atmosphere was oppressive, like the silence before a storm. Lin Yu stared intently at the stack of information about the Skinners in his hands, as if he were trying to engrave every word into his mind. The information detailed legends of the Skinners spread around the world. They possessed horrifying shapeshifting abilities, capable of transforming into any animal at will, and their methods were grotesque and brutal. They often cunningly disguised themselves as domestic pets, using their seemingly harmless appearance to deceive humans and lure them into the depths of a gloomy forest. Those who entered the forest would disappear, never to be heard from again. Lin Yu's brows knitted together, forming a deep "chuan" character, his eyes revealing deep worry and vigilance. He knew that this mission was like stepping into an unknown and terrifying abyss, fraught with unpredictable dangers.

Ouyang Zhenghao sat nearby, scratching his head irritably, his face thick with nervousness and unease. "This skinner can transform into an animal at will. Who could possibly defend against him? And he specifically targets the forests. Those forests are so vast, once inside, finding someone is like finding a needle in a haystack." Ouyang Zhenghao shuddered, a chill running down his spine as he recalled the terrifying scenes he had encountered in previous mysterious incidents. He was filled with fear of the unknown, wondering what kind of desperate situation he would find himself in this time facing such a strange and unpredictable skinner.

Chen Yao leaned quietly in her seat, her fingers unconsciously tapping the armrest, lost in thought. She pushed her glasses up and spoke slowly, "From an occult perspective, these shapeshifting creatures are often closely connected to specific mysterious energy fields or ancient, sinister curses. Perhaps the unique geographical environment and cultural background of the Yunnan borderland have some special factors that trigger the frequent activities of the skin-flayers. Upon our arrival, our top priority will be to search for clues from the missing persons, unraveling the mystical patterns and teasing out the patterns of these skin-flayers." Drawing on her profound knowledge and profound understanding of the occult, Chen Yao attempted to find some theoretical breakthroughs for this incident. However, she knew that reality was often more complex and terrifying than theory, and that what awaited them might be an unknown terror beyond their imagination.

The plane finally landed slowly in Yunnan, and the three of them hurried non-stop towards the border town. As soon as they entered, a suffocating, oppressive atmosphere overwhelmed them like a tide. The streets were deserted, with few pedestrians. Every household had its doors and windows shut tightly, as if the entire town trembled in fear. Occasionally, a few hurried residents could be seen, their eyes revealing a deep fear, as if they were being pursued by something terrifying.

Lin Yu and the other two went straight to the local police station to meet with the officer in charge of the missing persons case. The officer looked solemn and tired, with a deep sense of helplessness in his eyes. He slowly said, "Over the past few months, more than a dozen people have mysteriously disappeared. They all went out at night and then disappeared without a trace, never to return. Several witnesses claimed to have seen the missing people follow a strange-looking animal into the forest. However, descriptions of the animal varied. Some said it resembled a dog, but was much larger than an ordinary dog; others said it resembled a cat, but its movements were indescribably strange." The officer shook his head helplessly as he spoke. It was clear that he had no clue about this series of bizarre disappearances. These mysterious disappearances were like a fog that had him mired in it, unable to find a single clue.

Lin Yu frowned slightly, lost in thought. After a moment, he asked, "Are there any common characteristics among the missing persons? For example, age, occupation, living habits, etc."

The officer pondered for a moment, his expression somewhat helpless. "The missing persons range in age from energetic teenagers to seasoned middle-aged men in their fifties. Their occupations are diverse, covering all walks of life, and their lifestyles are also very different. So far, no obvious common characteristics have been found."

After leaving the police station, Lin Yu and the other two decided to immediately head to the missing person's last known location—the entrance to a forest on the edge of town. The forest stood silently like a giant, its tall, dense trees interwoven with their branches like a vast green net, blocking out the sunlight and leaving only dappled shadows on the ground, creating a chilling, mysterious feeling. From time to time, the low chirping of birds echoed through the forest, abruptly punctuating the stillness, like the whispers of some unknown creature, a chilling feeling.

"This forest exudes an evil aura, as if countless pairs of eyes are watching us from the shadows. I wonder what terrible things are hidden within." Ouyang Zhenghao muttered softly, his hands unconsciously clenching tightly around the weapon at his waist, his knuckles turning white from the strain. At this moment, his heartbeat involuntarily quickened, and a strong sense of unease followed him like a shadow, as if he were being held tightly by an invisible force, unable to break free.

Lin Yu didn't respond. His eyes, sharp as an eagle's, carefully observed his surroundings. Some faint footprints on the ground caught his attention. They were oddly shaped, seemingly a mixture of human and animal tracks. "These footprints are likely left by the missing person and the mysterious animal. It seems they did enter the forest from here." Lin Yu squatted down and carefully identified the shape, size, and direction of the footprints, trying to find some clues to deduce the movements of the missing person and the mysterious animal.
