The Mystery of the Reincarnation Village (Final Chapter)
Lin Yu, Ye Li, and Zhao Yang, having narrowly escaped the collapsed cave, dragged their exhausted and wounded bodies back to the village. The Reincarnation Village was exceptionally quiet at night, as if shrouded in an invisible haze. The villagers had long since fallen asleep, but the three knew that beneath the surface of peace, undercurrents still surged. The unsolved mystery of reincarnation hung like a sharp blade, poised to shatter this tranquility at any moment.
Lin Yu sat at the table in his makeshift residence, the light dim and flickering, as if ready to go out at any moment, just like their investigation, which seemed clear at the moment but could yet stumble into a dead end. His brow furrowed, his eyes revealing a complex blend of fatigue and determination as he pondered the events of the cave. "What is the origin of that mysterious man? What did he mean by 'nothing can be undone'? Could there be a greater crisis lurking within the village?" Lin Yu muttered to himself, his voice echoing in the silent room, but he received no response. Only endless doubts swirled within him.
Ye Li sat nearby, flipping through hastily retrieved materials from occult tomes, trying to find clues to the current incident within the vast sea of knowledge. Her eyes betrayed anxiety and focus, and with each page, she hoped to discover the key piece of information that would unlock all the mysteries. "Judging from the mysterious man's behavior and the complex symbols on the stone platform, this may be related to an ancient and sinister ritual, perhaps one that manipulates the cycle of life and death. But what purpose would allow him to perform such a ritual in this village remains elusive," Ye Li said, her voice tinged with resignation and frustration. She felt as if she were trapped in a vast maze of mysteries, where every seemingly promising path ultimately led to a dead end.
Zhao Yang paced back and forth in the room, his hand tightly gripping the weapon that had weathered countless dangers, his knuckles white from the strain. "No matter what his motives, the next time I encounter that guy, I'll make sure he's in trouble!" Zhao Yang gritted his teeth, his eyes burning with anger, but beneath the anger, a lingering fear of the unknown lay beneath. He knew full well that the mysterious man's power far exceeded their imagination. If they hadn't escaped by chance, they would likely be buried in the cave by now.
Just as the three of them were lost in thought, a strange sound suddenly emanated from outside the window. It sounded like someone weeping softly, or like a cold wind whistling through a narrow crack. The sound was faint, yet it seemed to penetrate the cracks in the window and reach their ears, sending a chill down their spines.
Lin Yu stood up warily, signaling Ye Li and Zhao Yang to be quiet. He cautiously approached the window and peered through the crack. It was pitch black outside, with only the occasional moonlight filtering through gaps in the clouds, casting patches of light and shadow on the ground. Suddenly, a blurry figure appeared in the moonlight. The figure was thin, dressed in a white robe, with long hair hanging down to the ground, and his face was unclear.
"There's a strange figure outside. He doesn't look like a normal person." Lin Yu whispered, a hint of nervousness in his voice. His heartbeat accelerated involuntarily, and his hand tightly grasped the weapon at his waist, ready to deal with any possible danger.
Ye Li and Zhao Yang quickly came to the window and looked out. Upon seeing the mysterious figure, Ye Li's face turned pale. "This... could this be the legendary vengeful spirit? From its aura, it feels filled with resentment and evil," Ye Li said, her voice trembling slightly. As an expert in the occult, she had witnessed many strange phenomena, but facing this unknown and mysterious figure, a chill ran through her heart.
Zhao Yang took a deep breath, trying to suppress the fear in his heart. "What's there to be afraid of? No matter if it's a vengeful spirit or something else, at worst, we can just fight!" Zhao Yang said. Although his tone was heroic, his slightly trembling body betrayed his true feelings.
At that moment, the mysterious figure slowly raised her head, revealing a face as pale as paper. Her eyes, vacant and lifeless, like two deep black holes, emanated a chilling chill. She opened her mouth and let out a sharp cry, the sound piercing the night air like a blade, stinging the three people's eardrums. Then, she floated towards the house they were in.
"Oh no! She's coming towards us! Get ready for battle!" Lin Yu shouted. The three of them quickly prepared for defense, but the mysterious figure disappeared without a trace the moment it approached the house.
"Where did she go?" Zhao Yang looked around nervously, waving the weapon in the air, trying to catch any trace of the enemy.
Ye Li frowned and said, "This vengeful spirit may have some ability to travel through space. We can't take it lightly. She may appear again at any time." Ye Li's eyes revealed vigilance. She knew very well that when facing such a mysterious and powerful existence, any negligence could bring fatal consequences.
Suddenly, all the lights in the room went out, plunging the room into darkness. A chilling air spread rapidly through the darkness, as if to freeze their blood. Lin Yu could sense a pair of eyes staring intently at them in the darkness, a gaze that felt like a thorn in his back, making him feel uneasy.
"Everyone, stand back to back and be careful!" Lin Yu shouted. The three of them huddled together, listening carefully in the darkness. Suddenly, a chilling breeze blew, bringing with it a chilling whisper that seemed to come from all directions, making it impossible to discern its source.
"You... shouldn't... stop... him..." The whispers echoed in the darkness, and every word was like a hammer, hitting their hearts hard.
