The Vanishing Train (Part 1)
Lin Yu, Ye Li, and Zhao Yang had barely recovered from their thrilling exploration of the Reincarnation Village when they received a new mission from Bureau 749: to search for the mysteriously missing D1811 train. According to the bureau, the train had vanished while passing through the Gaoligong Mountain Tunnel, seemingly vanishing without a trace. Rumors even circulated that it had traveled through a parallel universe.
On the way to Gaoligong Mountain, the atmosphere inside the train was as heavy as the silence before a storm. Lin Yu sat in his seat, his brows knitted into the shape of a "川" character, his eyes fixed on the information about Train D1811, as if he could see through the thin paper. "Gaoligong Mountain Tunnel... parallel universe... This sounds even more bizarre than the previous mission. How could a moving train vanish into thin air? And with parallel universes involved, the truth behind this must be incredibly complex," Lin Yu muttered to himself, his voice as deep as a well, his heart a tangle of doubt and worry. He knew that every time he faced an unknown mission, it was like stepping into a dark maze full of dangers. This time, the situation seemed even more confusing. The unknown fear was like a giant beast lurking in the shadows, gazing at them with eager eyes.
Ye Li sat nearby, her slender fingers occasionally tapping the window. Her eyes revealed a deep contemplation, as if she were trying to make sense of this chaotic situation. "From a scientific perspective, the existence of parallel universes is currently just a theoretical hypothesis. But the train's disappearance actually happened, so there must be some mechanism we don't understand. Perhaps it's the tunnel's unique magnetic field, spatial distortion, or perhaps... some supernatural force at work," Ye Li said. As an expert in the occult, she had conducted in-depth research on various supernatural phenomena, but this incident still left her perplexed, like groping in a fog, unable to find her way.
Zhao Yang clenched his fists, his knuckles white from the strain. He stared resolutely ahead, as if to force a hole through the fear of the unknown. "Who cares about parallel universes, supernatural powers? We've been through so much, why should we be afraid of this one? We must find the train and uncover the truth behind it." Although Zhao Yang's tone was as firm as steel, his slightly trembling lips betrayed a hint of nervousness about the unknown. After all, faced with such a bizarre incident, no one could predict what would happen next. The fear of the unknown, like a cold snake, crept up his spine.
After a long journey, they finally arrived near Gaoligong Mountain. From afar, the mountains stretched out in rolling hills, resembling a sleeping dragon. Clouds and mist shrouded the mountain, a surging, swirling, and eerie atmosphere that seemed to harbor countless unspeakable secrets. At the foot of the mountain, numerous railway workers and investigators from related departments had gathered near the railway line. Each face was filled with anxiety and confusion, as if shrouded in a veil of gloom.
Lin Yu and others quickly contacted the on-site supervisor to learn about the current status of the investigation. A solemn railway official approached, his face etched with fatigue and resignation, as if carrying a heavy burden. "We've searched the tunnel multiple times and found no trace of the train. It's as if it's truly traveled to another world. There's no obvious signs of collapse or explosion in the tunnel. Everything seems so incredible," the railway official said, his voice tinged with a deep sense of powerlessness, as if recounting a bizarre yet real nightmare.
Lin Yu nodded, a sharp light flashing in his eyes, and asked: "Before the train disappeared, did you receive any abnormal signals? Or did any staff notice anything strange?"
After a moment's thought, the official's brow furrowed even deeper, as if trying to sort out useful information from a chaotic memory. "Before the train entered the tunnel, everything was normal, and it was traveling according to the scheduled time and route. But just a few minutes after the train entered the tunnel, the signal suddenly cut off, and we've been unable to contact it since. A worker at the tunnel entrance said that after the train entered the tunnel, he heard a strange roar, as if some powerful force was tearing the air apart, but by the time he realized it, the train had disappeared," the official said, his eyes revealing a hint of fear, as if the strange roar was still echoing in his ears.
While recording, Ye Li asked, "What about the residents nearby? Did anyone see or hear anything unusual?"
The official shook his head, a hint of helplessness on his face. "We've also asked nearby residents, and most said they didn't notice anything unusual. Only one elderly man who lives near the tunnel said he saw a strong blue light flash at the tunnel entrance around the time the train disappeared, but he thought he was seeing things."
Lin Yu and Ye Li exchanged a glance, a complex mixture of confusion and curiosity in each other's eyes. Could this blue light and strange rumbling noise be the key clue to the missing train? Or was it just a coincidence? Countless questions swirled in their minds, like a tangled mess, impossible to sort out and even impossible to cut.
After bidding farewell to the officials, they decided to conduct a field survey inside the tunnel. Entering the tunnel, a chilling air washed over them, like a gust of wind from the depths of hell, instantly penetrating their clothing and sending shivers down their spines. The tunnel was dimly lit, its yellowish light flickering in the darkness. Occasionally, a few lights flickered, as if poised to go out at any moment, like candles in the wind, adding a touch of terror to the eerie atmosphere. Lin Yu turned on his flashlight, but the bright light seemed insignificant in the darkness, illuminating only a small area ahead. The surrounding darkness was like a ravenous beast, ready to devour them at any moment.
