Chapter 7: Lost in the Yellow Springs of Wawu Mountain

Lost in the Yellow Springs of Wawu Mountain

Lin Yu, Suna, and Lao Chen had just finished their mission to guard Changbai Mountain, and before they could properly rest, they received another urgent order from Bureau 749. This time, their destination was the mysterious Wawu Mountain in Sichuan, where a strange area known locally as the "Yellow Spring Road" lay. Countless lives had mysteriously disappeared there, their fate uncertain, as if swallowed by darkness, vanishing without a trace.

By the time their plane landed in Sichuan and they reached the village at the foot of Wawu Mountain, it was already nightfall. The village was shrouded in a thick blanket of darkness, utterly silent; not even the barking of a dog could be heard. Occasionally, the eerie chirp of a bird pierced the night air, a sound that seemed to emanate from another world, eerie enough to send chills down one's spine.

Lin Yu, Suna, and Lao Chen, their slightly exhausted bodies, entered this seemingly peaceful yet eerie village. Under the dim streetlights, their shadows stretched out, appearing lonely and lost. Lin Yu took a deep breath; the air was filled with the scent of damp earth and an indescribable hint of decay.

They found the village chief's home, an old wooden house with a dim lantern hanging at the door. The village chief was a man over fifty years old, his face full of traces of time, his eyes revealing deep worry and fear.

Lin Yu spoke first, his voice clear in the silent night. "Village Chief, we are sent by Bureau 749 to investigate Huangquan Road. We would like to learn more about the specific situation from you."

The village chief raised his head, looked at them, slowly invited them into the house, and then closed the door, as if he was afraid that something would follow them in.

Inside the house, a faint oil lamp cast a faint glow, illuminating the village chief's solemn face. He was silent for a moment, as if gathering his thoughts, before slowly speaking, "That road is truly eerie. No one who has entered has ever emerged. Some say it's a passage to the underworld, while others say it's cursed. Once, a few daring young men, unconvinced by the evil, ventured in, and the result..." His voice trembled at this point, "None of them ever returned."

Suna frowned, a hint of determination flashed in her eyes: "No matter what it is, we must find out and solve this mystery."

The village chief sighed and said, "Alas, you young people just don't know your place. I advise you not to take any risks."

However, Lin Yu and others were determined.

The next morning, before daybreak, a thin layer of mist enveloped the village. Led by a villager familiar with the mountain path, they headed toward the "Yellow Springs Road." This villager, Aqiang, was one of the few in the village who had been close to the Yellow Springs Road and had the good fortune to return. His face was filled with nervousness and uneasiness, but he agreed to lead the way.

Along the way, the fog grew thicker, like a heavy white curtain, obscuring the entire world. The trees were tall and intertwined, their branches tangled together, forming a natural barrier. The road beneath their feet was muddy and slippery, and rocks and tree roots often tripped them up.

"That's it! I don't dare go any further." Aqiang stopped and said in a trembling voice. His eyes were filled with fear, as if there was an endless abyss ahead.

Lin Yu and the others thanked Aqiang, took a deep breath, looked at each other, and stepped into this mysterious area. Shortly after entering, they found that the compass began to spin wildly and completely lost its function. The mobile phone also had no signal, as if all contact with the outside world had been instantly cut off.

"Everyone be careful, the situation is more complicated than we thought." Lao Chen's voice was a little low. He held the backpack strap tightly in his hand, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Suddenly, a chilling wind blew by, bringing a bone-chilling chill. Faint cries could be heard all around, the cries sometimes high, sometimes low, sometimes far, sometimes near, as if countless souls were wailing in agony.

"What's that sound?" Su Na's face turned pale in an instant, her heartbeat accelerated sharply, and her hands unconsciously grasped Lin Yu's arm.

Lin Yu observed his surroundings vigilantly, his eyes sharp: "I don't know, but it's definitely not a good sign. Maybe it's the wind here, or maybe... it's some kind of existence that we can't understand."

As they continued forward, the road grew narrower and narrower. The trees on either side seemed to be squeezing in on them, their branches like twisted hands, trying to grab them. The fallen leaves were piled thick on the ground, making a dull sound with every step, as if warning them not to go any further.

"It feels like we are trapped in a maze." There was a hint of despair in Suna's voice. She looked up at the sky, but could only see a small piece of gray fragmented by branches.

At this moment, they saw a vague figure in front of them. The figure was looming and looked like a person wearing a white robe.

"Who is it?" Lin Yu asked loudly, his voice echoing in the silent forest.

However, the figure did not answer, but just stood there quietly, and then disappeared into the mist in an instant.

"Let's catch up and see!" Old Chen shouted, with a hint of urgency in his voice.

They ran in the direction the figure had disappeared, their steps hurried. But the more they ran, the more lost they felt, and the scene around them grew increasingly eerie. Where there had been some light, it grew dimmer, as if gradually being swallowed by darkness. The shapes of the trees grew more distorted, some resembling monstrous creatures with bared fangs and claws, others like mourners with bowed heads.
