Mysterious Base
The car sped along, as if racing against time and unknown danger. The roar of the engine echoed across the empty road, shattering the surrounding silence. The scenery outside the car window quickly receded, trees and mountains becoming blurred shadows. Finally, in front of a seemingly abandoned factory, the car abruptly stopped. The sharp screeching of brakes shattered the tranquility of the wilderness.
The stranger got out of the car first, his steps steady and firm. He turned around and motioned for everyone to follow, his eyes revealing an unquestionable determination.
"Where is this?" Lin Yu asked, a hint of doubt and unease in his voice. He gazed at the dilapidated factory, his heart filled with doubt. The factory's exterior was shabby, the paint peeling off the walls, revealing the rusted metal skeleton within. The massive chimney soared into the sky, but no longer emitted smoke, like a forgotten giant.
"A temporary safe place." The stranger answered briefly, his voice sounding particularly cold in the empty environment. He did not stop and walked straight towards the factory gate.
The factory gate was rusted, the marks of time clearly visible. The stranger pushed hard, and the hinges clunked, like the groaning of a long-slumbering beast awakened. A stale smell of rust, dust, and decay washed over him.
As they entered the factory, a stale atmosphere permeated the air. Sunlight streamed in through the broken windows, creating golden beams of light. Countless dust particles danced within them, like tiny spirits. The ground was thick with dust, leaving clear footprints with every step.
Suna couldn't help but cover her mouth and nose, her brows furrowed. "Is this place safe?" Her voice was filled with doubt and fear. She looked around at the dark corners, as if she felt countless pairs of eyes watching them.
Old Chen surveyed his surroundings, his eyes sharp and alert. "It doesn't look like it," he whispered, a hint of worry in his voice. His hand unconsciously reached for the weapon at his waist, ready to respond to any danger.
The stranger led them to a basement, the entrance of which was hidden behind a pile of abandoned machines. The stairs were narrow and steep, and water droplets on the wall kept dripping, making a dripping sound.
Everyone carefully followed the stranger down the stairs. The lights in the basement were dim, with a few worn-out light bulbs swinging overhead, emitting a faint glow.
"Just wait here and don't run around," said the stranger, his voice echoing in the basement with an authority that could not be disobeyed.
Lin Yu frowned, his heart filled with dissatisfaction and confusion. "What the hell are you doing?" He stepped forward, blocking the stranger's way. "We've followed you here, you should at least give us an explanation." His eyes burned with anger, and his voice rose a few degrees.
The stranger ignored Lin Yu's questioning. He walked sideways around Lin Yu and continued walking forward.
"Stop!" Lin Yu shouted loudly, his voice echoing in the basement.
The stranger stopped but didn't turn around. "Now's not the time to explain. Just stay here and you'll be safe." He left without looking back.
Everyone waited in the basement, and as time passed, a sense of unease gradually crept in. The basement was eerily quiet, with only the sounds of everyone's breathing and heartbeats.
Suddenly, the lights in the basement flickered, sometimes bright and sometimes dim, as if they would go out at any moment. Then came a strange sound, like someone crying, sometimes whispering, which was creepy.
"What's that sound?" a team member asked in horror, his voice trembling.
"I don't know, but it's definitely not a good sign." Another team member replied, his hands tightly gripping his weapon and his eyes staring around vigilantly.
Lin Yu took a deep breath and tried to stay calm. "Don't panic, everyone. It might just be the wind or some old pipes." Although he said this, his heart was also filled with fear.
Suna leaned against Lao Chen tightly, her body trembling. "I'm scared, Lao Chen." Her voice was filled with tears.
Old Chen comforted her, "Don't be afraid, girl, I'm here." His hand gently patted Suna's shoulder, but his eyes also revealed deep worry.
The strange sound grew louder and louder, as if countless souls were crying out in pain. The lights flickered more frequently, and the entire basement fell into chaos.
"What is going on?" Lin Yu's voice was filled with despair.
At this moment, there was a sudden sound of something heavy falling from a corner of the basement, and everyone's attention was instantly drawn there...
