Chapter 71: The Secret of the Basement

Secrets in the Basement

The sound of a heavy object falling to the ground echoed in the basement. The dull sound was like a heavy hammer, hitting everyone's heart hard, making their hearts instantly rise to their throats. Everyone's nerves were stretched to the extreme, like a string about to break.

"Who's there?" Lin Yu shouted, his voice thick with nervousness. His heartbeat raced, threatening to burst through his chest. He stared intently at the direction of the sound, his knuckles turning white from the force of his weapon. "Come out now! Stop playing tricks!" he roared inwardly, trying to mask his inner fear with rage.

No one responded, only the strange sound continued. It sounded like someone groaning in pain, or some evil creature whispering curses, as if mocking their fear, making this already eerie basement even more eerie.

Old Chen gripped his weapon tightly and cautiously walked toward the source of the sound. Each step he took was carefully chosen, stirring up dust beneath his feet, creating a hazy cloud in the dim light. "Everyone, be careful," he whispered, his voice trembling slightly but filled with determination. He knew he couldn't retreat now; he had to find out what was causing the trouble.

"Old Chen, be careful!" Suna warned nervously. Her voice shrill with fear, her hands clutching the corners of her clothes tightly, her knuckles white from the strain. She couldn't take her eyes off Old Chen's back, her heart filled with worry and fear. "Be careful," she silently prayed, hoping Old Chen would be safe.

As Old Chen approached the corner, he found a battered wooden box lying on the ground. Its surface was covered with traces of age, its planks rotted, and it emitted a pungent, musty odor. The box seemed to have been pushed down from a height by some force, and scattered around it were pieces of wood and other debris.

Old Chen gently nudged the wooden box with his weapon, but there was no movement. He had just breathed a sigh of relief when, at that moment, a burst of hurried footsteps echoed from the other end of the basement. The footsteps were particularly clear in the silent basement, and each step seemed to weigh heavily on everyone's heart.

"Oh no! Something's happening!" Lin Yu said. His eyes instantly grew more alert, and sweat trickled down his cheeks. "Everyone, be prepared to respond to any possible danger." His voice was deep and powerful, trying to give his teammates a glimmer of courage and confidence.

Everyone stood back to back, watching their surroundings warily. Their breathing quickened, their heartbeats remarkably clear in the silence. Everyone's eyes were wide open, not missing a single movement.

Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed before their eyes. It was so fast, like a ghost, leaving only a blurry shadow.

"Chase!" Lin Yu shouted. Without hesitation, he rushed towards the direction where the shadow disappeared, and the others followed closely behind.

Everyone followed the shadow, the ground beneath their feet was bumpy and uneven, and they stumbled in the darkness, but no one stopped. In the darkness, they could only rely on the weak light and intuition to move forward.

Finally, they found themselves in an unfamiliar room. It was filled with a stale atmosphere, cobwebs festooned the walls, and thick dust accumulated in the corners. Strange instruments and documents lay scattered across the room, flashing eerie lights. Documents were scattered across the floor, as if the room had just been through a chaotic period.

"What is this place?" Suna asked in surprise. Her voice was filled with confusion and fear, and her eyes darted around the room. "This looks like a laboratory." Her heartbeat quickened so fast that she could almost hear it echoing in her ears.

Lin Yu picked up a document covered in incomprehensible symbols and codes. The symbols, like some mysterious incantation, made him feel dizzy. "Could there be some secret hidden here?" Lin Yu frowned, pondering. His fingers gently traced the writing on the document, trying to find some clue. "These symbols and codes must have some meaning," he thought to himself.

At this moment, all the lights in the room suddenly went out. Darkness instantly swallowed them up, and fear surged into their hearts like a tide.

"What's going on?" a team member shouted in horror.

"Everyone, don't panic!" Lin Yu shouted, "Stay calm!"

However, in this endless darkness, it was not easy to remain calm. Everyone's breathing became more rapid, and their heartbeats became more intense.

Suddenly, a cold wind blew past, and everyone couldn't help but shiver.

"Where does this wind...come from?" Suna's voice trembled.

"I don't know, but there must be a problem," said Lao Chen.

At this moment, there was a slight noise in the room, as if something was slowly approaching.

"Get ready for battle!" Lin Yu shouted.

Everyone clenched their weapons, nervously awaiting the unknown danger...
