Shadows in the Cracks
The massive shadow gradually became clearer, each second of its appearance like a thumping blow to everyone's heart. Its outline, gradually etched in the dim light, revealed a massive, grotesque creature. Its mountainous, undulating form exuded an oppressive presence, its sturdy limbs like towering stone pillars, its muscles bulging with boundless power. Its body was covered in a layer of hard scales, each one gleaming with a cold light, as if forged from cold iron. Its head resembled that of a lion, its broad face framed by a pair of eyes blazing with fury, like a blazing fire that frightened anyone who looked directly at it. Most eerie of all, it bore a pair of massive, curved horns, engraved with mysterious patterns that spoke of an ancient, sinister curse.
Everyone gasped, fear instantly spreading like a tide. Everyone's breath seemed to be frozen, and their heartbeats were particularly clear in the silence.
Lin Yu forced himself to remain calm. Even though his legs were trembling slightly, he knew he couldn't show any fear. He shouted, "Don't panic! Hold your ground!" His voice echoed in the trembling air, trying to inspire a sense of courage and confidence. "We will definitely find a way to deal with it!" He prayed silently in his heart, gripping his weapon tightly, his knuckles turning white from the strain.
However, the creature seemed to have heard Lin Yu's cry, it opened its bloody mouth and roared. The sound was like thunder, shaking the earth and sending rubble rolling down the surrounding area.
"What the hell is this monster?" a team member screamed in terror, his voice shrill and piercing with extreme fear. His eyes were wide open, filled with despair and helplessness. "How can we possibly defeat it?" His mind was blank, filled only with the fear of death.
Suna's voice trembled, her body shaking like a leaf in the wind. "I've never seen anything like this before." Her lips quivered, tears welling in her eyes. "Are we going to die here?" She thought of her family and friends far away, her heart filled with reluctance and sadness.
Old Chen gritted his teeth and said, "No matter what it is, let's attack first!" His face was filled with determination and resolve. "We can't just sit there and wait for death. Let's fight!" His heartbeat accelerated, but his will to fight became even stronger. "Even if I die, I must die with dignity!" He raised his weapon, aimed at the monster, and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
Everyone opened fire, bullets raining down upon the monster. The gunshots echoed through the valley, shattering the silence. However, the bullets struck the monster like a drop in the ocean, completely ineffective. Its hard scales easily withstood the bullets, leaving only shallow marks.
The monster, enraged by the attacks, glowed even redder, its eyes brimming with murderous intent. It pounced upon them with lightning speed. In that instant, time seemed to freeze, and the crowd could only watch helplessly as the monster advanced with unstoppable force.
One team member was unable to dodge and was struck by the monster. His body arced through the air like a kite with its string cut, then fell heavily to the ground. With a loud thud, dust flew up, and his body sank into the rubble, his life or death uncertain.
"Run!" Lin Yu shouted, his voice filled with anxiety and fear. "Spread out and find somewhere to hide!" He turned and ran in one direction, with only one thought in mind: to try to distract the monster and buy time for his teammates.
Everyone fled in all directions, their footsteps echoing in the valley. Everyone's heart was filled with fear and despair, but the instinct to survive made them run regardless of the consequences.
The monster was in hot pursuit, its footsteps like thunder, each step shaking the earth. Its breath was like a strong wind, sweeping everything away.
As Lin Yu ran, he kept looking back to see what the monster was doing. His breathing was rapid, his lungs burning. "I must find a way to get rid of it!" His mind raced, trying to find a way to escape.
Suna accidentally fell while running, scraping her knee and staining her trouser leg with blood. "Help!" she cried desperately.
When Lao Chen heard Suna's cry, he turned around without hesitation and ran towards her. "Don't be afraid, girl, I'm coming!" His heart was filled with concern and responsibility for his teammates.
Just as Lao Chen was about to reach Suna, the monster suddenly changed direction and pounced towards them...
