Chapter 82: The Secret of the Cave

Secrets in the Cave

The group moved forward cautiously through the cave, each step filled with caution. A damp, decaying odor permeated the air, a scent like secrets etched over time, leaving a sense of oppression and unease. The faint light from their flashlights illuminated only a small area ahead, while the surrounding darkness, like thick ink, threatened to swallow them whole at any moment.

Suddenly, several forked roads appeared ahead, like a demonic hand reaching out from the darkness, leaving one unsure which to choose. The flashlight flickered across the forks, illuminating the rough stone walls and dark passages. Each fork seemed like an unknown world, hiding endless dangers and mysteries.

"What should we do? Which way should we go?" one of the team members asked anxiously. His voice echoed through the cave, trembling noticeably. His eyes darted between the several forked paths, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. "If we choose the wrong path, we might never get out again," he thought silently, fear lingering in his mind.

Lin Yu frowned, his eyes darting back and forth between the forks in the road, his mind racing. After a moment's thought, he said, "Wait a minute, everyone, observe carefully." He tried to keep his voice calm, but his heart was filled with worry and confusion. "We can't make a blind choice. We must find some clues," he warned himself, trying to suppress his inner panic.

Then, Suna spotted some strange footprints on the ground at one of the side roads. Shining her flashlight on them, her heartbeat quickened. "Look, there are footprints here. Maybe this is a clue," Suna said, her voice a little sharp with nervousness. She crouched down, carefully examining the footprints, her brow furrowed. "Will this be a sign to the way out? Or a dangerous trap?" she wondered.

Old Chen leaned over to take a look and shook his head. "But I can't tell what kind of creature left these footprints. They could be a trap." His eyes were filled with suspicion and caution. "We can't trust these footprints easily. Maybe they're deliberately designed to lure us in." Countless possibilities flashed through his mind, each one making him uneasy.

Just as everyone was hesitating, a faint cry was heard from the cave. The cry seemed to come from far away, but it also seemed to be right next to their ears, sobbing and complaining that it made people's hair stand on end.

"What...what's that sound?" The team members looked at each other, fear filling their stomachs once again. Their eyes were filled with terror, and everyone could feel their own heartbeats, especially clear in the silent cave.

Lin Yu's expression grew even more solemn, and he gripped the flashlight tightly. "Everyone, calm down." He tried to sound resolute, but the fear within him was growing. "That crying is so strange! Is there someone else in this cave? Or... some unknown creature?" Horrifying scenarios played out in his mind.

Suna's body trembled uncontrollably. "Could it be... a ghost?" her voice tinged with tears, her arms clutching her shoulders tightly. "Shouldn't we have come in? This place is too scary." She recalled the horror stories she had heard, and regret and fear filled her heart.

Old Chen took a deep breath. "Don't talk nonsense! It's not a ghost! It could be the wind or some other natural phenomenon." Even as he spoke, his voice trembled. "But this sound is truly strange. We must be careful." He searched the darkness, trying to find the source of the sound.

The crying sounded intermittent, as if teasing them. Every time the crying sounded, it made everyone's nerves more tense.

"Whatever it is, we can't just sit here and wait for death." Lin Yu said, "Let's split up and explore these forks. We must be careful."

The team members nodded one after another. Although their hearts were filled with fear, they knew that only by facing it bravely could they have hope of survival.

Lin Yu and Lao Chen were in one group, and Su Na and another team member were in another group. They each went into different forks in the road.

Lin Yu and Lao Chen walked slowly along the forked path, their heartbeats quickening with every step. Water droplets from the wall dripped onto their shoulders, bringing a chill.

"Old Chen, do you think we can find a way out?" Lin Yu asked softly.

Lao Chen was silent for a moment, "I don't know, but we must believe in ourselves."

On the other side, the flashlights of Suna and her teammates flickered in the darkness.

"I'm scared, Suna." The team member's voice was full of fear.

"Don't be afraid, we will be fine." Although Suna was also scared, she still tried to comfort the team members.

Suddenly, there was a rustling sound from the side road where Suna and the others were heading, as if something was approaching...
