Zombie Town
Lin Yu and his team had just concluded a thrilling adventure deep in the mountains of Guizhou, their bodies and minds still reeling from exhaustion and tension. However, the call of duty offered them no respite. Before they could properly rest and recuperate, they received a new, mysterious mission. This time, their destination was an ancient town in Chongqing, steeped in mystery and strange legends.
It was already dusk when their vehicle slowly pulled into the ancient town. The setting sun, like a dying flame, shed its final rays. Its warm light gently shone upon the ancient buildings, gilding the mottled walls and dilapidated eaves with an ethereal golden edge. However, this faint glow could not conceal the ancient town's inherent desolation and eerie atmosphere.
"This place feels weird," Suna muttered, looking out the car window. There was a barely concealed unease in her voice, and her eyes betrayed a fear of the unknown. The tranquility of this ancient town seemed a veneer, concealing endless secrets and dangers.
Lin Yu sat nearby, his gaze fixed on the scene outside the window, nodding slightly in agreement. "It's best to be cautious. Everyone, find a place to settle down first, and then investigate after dark." His voice was steady and resolute. Although he shared the same concerns, as captain, he had to remain calm and decisive.
Vehicles chug along the narrow streets, their wheels creaking on the cobblestones, as if the ancient town were whispering its discontent. The buildings on either side are ancient and dilapidated, their wooden doors and windows tightly shut, as if deliberately concealing something. Occasionally, a window blows open with a loud bang that makes your heart skip a beat.
Finally, they stopped in front of a shabby inn that looked relatively intact. The inn's sign swayed in the wind, making a creaking sound. The writing on it was already blurred, and only the words "Yue Lai Inn" could be vaguely discerned.
Everyone got off the bus and walked into the inn with their luggage. The inn's lobby was dark and damp, filled with a stale, musty smell. Behind the counter sat a haggard old man. He raised his head, glanced at them with cloudy eyes, and said nothing.
"Boss, we need a few rooms." Lin Yu walked forward and said.
The old man was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "There are only three rooms left. You can divide them among yourselves." His voice was hoarse and low, as if coming from far away.
Lin Yu looked at the team members helplessly and said, "Okay, everyone, just make do with it for now."
Everyone took the key and dragged their tired bodies to the room. The room was simple and old-fashioned, and the bedding on the bed gave off a foul smell.
Suna walked into the room and couldn't help frowning. "Is this place habitable?" she complained.
Lin Yu comforted him, "Just make do with it for now, and leave when you complete the task."
Night fell quickly, and the entire ancient town fell into a dead silence. Not a breath of wind, not a sound, as if time had stopped. Suddenly, a strange noise came from outside, like someone dragging something heavy. The sound was particularly clear in the silent night, and each sound seemed to strike the hearts of everyone.
"Go out and take a look." Lin Yu's voice broke the brief silence, his eyes full of vigilance.
The team members picked up their weapons and carefully followed Lin Yu out of the inn.
The street was deserted, with only the strange sound echoing in the darkness. Lin Yu signaled for everyone to remain quiet and slowly approached the direction of the sound.
I saw a black shadow flash past the corner of the street at such a fast speed that it was impossible to see its appearance clearly.
"Chase!" Lin Yu gave an order and everyone quickly chased after him.
Their footsteps echoed on the cobblestone road, shattering the tranquility of the ancient town. In the darkness, the houses on both sides seemed to transform into giant monsters, pouncing towards them with bared fangs and claws.
"Be careful, don't get lost!" Lin Yu shouted.
Su Na followed Lin Yu closely, her heartbeat quickening and her breathing becoming rapid. "What on earth is this?" she asked.
Lin Yu did not answer, but just stared intently at the dark shadow in front of him.
The shadow was moving through the narrow alley, with Lin Yu and the others chasing closely. Suddenly, the shadow entered an abandoned house and disappeared.
Lin Yu and others chased to the front of the house and stopped.
"Be careful, there might be a trap." said a team member.
Lin Yu took a deep breath and said, "Everyone be careful and go in slowly."
They pushed open the door cautiously, and a pungent smell hit them. The room was dark, damp, and filled with clutter.
"Search separately." Lin Yu said.
The team members dispersed and carefully searched the house for traces of the shadow.
Suddenly, Suna screamed.
"What's wrong?" Lin Yu asked hurriedly.
"I...I seemed to see a pair of eyes." Suna's voice trembled.
Lin Yu hurried towards Su Na.
Just then, a gust of wind blew in from the window and blew out the flashlights in their hands.
The room was instantly plunged into darkness...
