Episode 25: The Unknown Visitor

The Unknown Visitor

The heavy footsteps stopped abruptly at the door, and the atmosphere in the room instantly reached a tense peak, as if the air had condensed into substance. Lin Yu and the others stared at the door as if drawn by a magnet, their breathing unconsciously slowing, not daring to breathe, fearing that even the slightest sound would trigger unpredictable consequences.

After a moment of silence, the door slowly opened, and a tall figure appeared at the entrance. The figure seemed to bring the darkness outside with it, instantly swallowing up the already weak light in the room.

"Who are you?" the figure asked in a low voice, his voice filled with alarm, like thunder exploding in the small space. His voice carried a suppressed power, as if it came from deep underground, shocking one's heart.

Lin Yu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, and stepped forward. "We are lost travelers who stumbled here by mistake." His voice trembled slightly, but his eyes met the figure firmly. Lin Yu's heart was filled with anxiety, unsure how this sudden appearance would react to them. "I hope he can believe us," he prayed silently in his heart.

In the dim light of the room, they finally made out the visitor's face. It was a rugged man, his features carved by the sharp blade of time, covered in deep wrinkles and traces of vicissitudes. His eyes held a hint of suspicion and wariness, like a wounded beast, ready to strike at any moment.

"Lost? This isn't a place you can easily get lost in." The man frowned, his eyes darting back and forth between Lin Yu and the others, as if trying to judge the truth of their words. There was a hint of doubt in his voice, as if he didn't believe such a coincidence could happen in this world.

Old Chen hurriedly explained, "We truly didn't mean to come here. Too many strange things have happened here." His voice was urgent and sincere, his face etched with exhaustion and helplessness. "We encountered mysterious pursuers in the mountains and finally managed to escape here. We truly have no ill intentions." His hands moved unconsciously, trying to convince the man.

The man was silent for a moment, his eyes still wary, but he seemed to be thinking about what Old Chen had said. The atmosphere in the room was oppressive and suffocating, with only the man's heavy breathing echoing in the air.

"Come in, it's not safe outside." The man finally spoke, his voice filled with helplessness and fatigue. He stepped aside and gestured for Lin Yu and the others to enter the house.

They walked into the house cautiously, and the man quickly closed the door, as if he was afraid that something would follow them in. As the door closed, the house fell into a deeper darkness.

The man lit an oil lamp, and the dim light flickered in the room, barely illuminating everyone's faces. He sat on a worn chair and motioned for Lin Yu and the others to sit down as well.

The man began to tell the story of the town. His voice was low and slow, as if every word was weighed down with memories. "This town was once prosperous, but since a terrible curse struck, it has fallen into ruin." The man's eyes became distant, as if he had traveled through time and witnessed the town's former glory.

"Curse? What kind of curse?" Suna asked curiously, her voice particularly clear in the silence. Her eyes were fixed on the man, her heart filled with curiosity and fear.

The man sighed, a sigh that seemed to emanate from the depths of his soul. "Every full moon night, an evil force emerges, claiming people's souls." His voice was filled with helplessness and sadness. "At first, everyone thought it was just a rumor, but it wasn't until more and more people disappeared that we realized the seriousness of the situation."

Lin Yu and the others looked at each other in shock. They couldn't imagine that such a peaceful town could hide such a terrible secret.

"Then why are you still staying here?" Lin Yu asked, his eyes full of confusion.

The man gave a bitter laugh, a smile filled with endless bitterness. "I'm waiting, waiting for someone who can lift the curse." His gaze grew firm. "I can't just leave like this. This is my home, and I must protect it."

At this moment, the moon outside the window slowly rose, and the cold moonlight filtered through the cracks in the window into the house. A chill spread, as if the moonlight carried some kind of icy curse.

Suna couldn't help but shiver, "It feels colder and colder." She hugged her arms tightly, trying to resist the cold.

Old Chen's face turned serious. "Could it be the night of the full moon tonight?" There was a hint of fear in his voice.

Lin Yu stood up, walked to the window, and looked out. The street outside looked exceptionally deserted in the moonlight, like a dead city. "We must be prepared for any possible dangers," he said in a firm and calm voice.

The man also stood up and took out some weapons from the corner. "These may come in handy." His eyes revealed a hint of determination. "Tonight, we will face it together."

The atmosphere in the room became more tense, and everyone's heart was filled with anxiety and fear, but at the same time, there was also a firm belief that no matter what, they must fight against this evil force to the end...
