Episode 268: The Mystery of the Twin Trees in the Strange Valley

Uncanny Valley, Twin Trees Puzzle

With a resolute yet slightly apprehensive heart, Lin Yu and Suna once again entered the mysterious and eerie forest, steadily advancing towards the valley the old man had pointed to. As they deepened deeper into the forest, the atmosphere grew increasingly serene, as if the entire world were enveloped in an invisible web of silence. All was still, as if time had stood still. The occasional chirp of birds, far from breaking the suffocating stillness, instead rippled like a pebble dropped into a deep pool, creating even more eerie ripples and deepening the chill deep within.

Lin Yu gripped his sword tightly, his knuckles turning slightly white from the strain. He vigilantly observed his surroundings, every subtle movement catching his sharp gaze. At this moment, he was secretly on guard: "This valley exudes an indescribable eeriness. It's so unnaturally quiet, like the calm before a storm. The more so, the more we must not let our guard down. No one knows what terrifying creature will suddenly jump out of some dark corner in the next second." Suna followed closely behind Lin Yu, her whole attention focused on directing the Gu worms to explore the surroundings. The Gu worms emitted a faint buzzing sound, as if whispering their unease about this strange place, as if they too sensed the strange atmosphere that followed them like a shadow.

As they advanced deeper into the forest, the trees grew taller and denser, like giants from ancient times, blotting out the sun. Sunlight struggled to penetrate the layers of foliage, casting only a few fine, golden rays, casting a patchwork of light and shadow across the ground, like a mysterious and eerie painting. Suddenly, a chilly breeze blew without warning, like an icy hand brushing against Lin Yu and Suna's cheeks, sending a shiver down their spines. The wind seemed to carry a lingering aroma of decay, a tangled blend of rotting leaves, mold, and an unknown decaying substance that made them nauseous.

"Lin Yu, I don't feel right. It's like countless pairs of eyes are staring at us in the darkness. This feeling is terrifying," Su Na said in a low voice, her eyes trembling slightly, revealing a hint of undisguised nervousness. Her intuition has always been sharp, and in this environment, her uneasiness became even stronger.

Lin Yu nodded slightly, feeling the same unsettling gaze. He responded softly, trying to calm Suna, "I feel the same way. Don't panic. We must remain calm and vigilant. Especially in times like this, we must remain calm, as danger could arise at any moment." Although he tried to maintain composure, he knew deep down that they were treading steadily into an unknown and dangerous situation.

At that moment, a sudden rustling sound erupted from a short distance. The sound was particularly abrupt in the silent forest, like the gentle ringing of a death knell. Lin Yu and Suna stopped dead in their tracks, their bodies tensed like two drawn bows. Their gazes fixed on the direction of the sound, their eyes filled with vigilance and alertness. A massive black hare shot out of the brush like an arrow. It was several times larger than an ordinary hare, resembling a small, ferocious beast. Its eyes flickered with an eerie red light, like a burning flame, yet devoid of warmth, only an endless chill and coldness. It was a stark contrast to the docile and harmless appearance of an ordinary hare, emanating a chilling aura of danger.

Before they could react, the hare kicked the ground with its hind legs, sending dust flying. Like a streak of black lightning, it swooped down on Lin Yu, so fast that there was barely time to dodge. Startled, Lin Yu instinctively dodged to the side, his sword slashing at the hare like a streak of silver. The hare, however, displayed remarkable agility, deftly twisting its body in the air like a skilled dancer, effortlessly dodging Lin Yu's fierce attack and landing steadily on a nearby tree. Perched on a branch, it stared down at Lin Yu and Suna with a fierce, condescending gaze, emitting a deep, angry growl as if to taunt them.

"There's something wrong with this hare. Its behavior and strength are far beyond common sense. Everyone must be careful of its next attack," Lin Yu warned loudly, his eyes fixed on the hare like a hawk, not daring to let his guard down for even a moment. At this moment, his heart was filled with confusion. Why did this hare appear here, and why did it attack them? It seemed that there was a greater conspiracy behind all this.

Upon hearing this, Suna immediately commanded the Gu insects to fly towards the hare, attempting to disrupt its rhythm by distracting them. Upon receiving the command, the Gu insects, like soldiers at the call of a charge, quickly swarmed around it, forming a colorful circle in the air. However, the hare showed no fear. A flicker of disdain flashed in its red eyes, and then it opened its mouth, releasing a torrent of black smoke. The smoke quickly spread, like a dark haze, instantly enveloping the surrounding area. Upon contact with the smoke, the Gu insects let out a painful buzzing sound, their once orderly flight becoming chaotic. They struggled in the mist, like birds caught in a quagmire, falling from the sky one by one, their vitality rapidly fading.

"Oh no! This smoke is poisonous!" Suna was horrified upon seeing this, and hurriedly focused on recalling the remaining insects. Looking at those insects struggling to die in the smoke, she felt both distressed and anxious, knowing that in such a dangerous environment, the insects were their vital support and could not be easily lost.
