Chapter 349 How could there possibly be money?

What did you say?

Su Lianwu glared at them angrily, never expecting that his former colleagues would ridicule him like this.

"What, not only was your money stolen, but your ears were stolen too? Can't you hear us talking so loudly? Hahaha..."

The two men burst into laughter again as they spoke.

It wasn't that they intentionally wanted to make fun of Su Lianwu, but rather that his tattered clothes, with two holes chewed by rats in his chest, made him look utterly ridiculous.

Su Lianwu was so angry that his face turned as red as if it were dripping blood. He was about to go up and punch the two men when suddenly his superior came out.

What are you doing?

He gave a cold rebuke, then looked at Su Lianwu.

"Lord Lin, my house has been burgled. Could you lend me some silver first?"

When Su Lianwu saw Lord Lin come out, he suppressed his anger and, as if he had seen another hope, went forward to borrow money.

However, Lord Lin gave him a disdainful look and said in a cold voice, "You should go back and change into your official robes before taking up your post. Don't embarrass yourself here!"

Su Lianwu: "My lord, my official robes have been stolen!"

"If it gets stolen, don't you know how to get it back?"

Lord Lin said in an annoyed tone.

Actually, he didn't like Su Lianwu either.

Previously, Su Lianwu, as his subordinate, always acted arrogantly towards him, as if he were his superior, relying on the support of the Second Princess or the Prince of Chu.

He had long disliked this, and now that Su Lianwu was in trouble, why would he help him?

"Find it? But I have no idea who stole it?"

Su Lianwu was furious.

Did you think he didn't want to get it back?

The problem is that he doesn't know where to look. He couldn't even see the thief's size clearly, so how is he supposed to find him?

"Don't you know you can report this to the authorities? Get out of here right now! Dressed like this, you're making a complete fool of yourself. Don't come back until you find your official robes!"

Lord Lin began to shoo people away in a bad mood.

Anyway, Su Lianwu's official position is already as low as it can go, and he has no one to back him up. If he can't get his official robes back, I can report him to the higher authorities.

A person who can't even keep his official robes, and more seriously, loses his position, is not wrong at all in doing this.

Su Lianwu could only leave in anger and head to the government office to report the case.

On the other side.

Su Yu's experience was no better than Su Lianwu's; his colleagues didn't even recognize him and kicked him out like a beggar.

His superior directly said that his attire was improper and damaged his official prestige, and that he would write a memorial to impeach him.

This frightened Su Yu quite a bit, and he had no choice but to leave in a sorry state, promising to go home and find his official robes.

*

"Where did you say you lived?"

The government office.

Upon hearing Su Lianwu's address, the constable in charge of handling the report couldn't help but frown deeply.

"The poor alley in the north of the city".

Su Lianwu felt ashamed and repeated it again in a low voice.

Because he was dressed in rags, he didn't mention that he was an official when he reported the crime, fearing that he would be laughed at again. So he reported the crime as an ordinary citizen.

To everyone's surprise, the bailiff shrugged after hearing this.

"You don't need to investigate this anymore. The things that went missing there were stolen by the people in your alley! You should go back and ask them for them back yourself!"

Even in the imperial city of Daliang, there are places that are not under the jurisdiction of the local government.

For example, this slum alley, though called a slum alley, was actually a den of beggars.

The lowest of the low in the capital lived there; they were people who had committed crimes, served their sentences, and had nowhere to go.

They were powerless and had committed numerous thefts every day, so the local government had long since abandoned the area. As long as they didn't steal from the proper alleys, no one would bother them.

"What? Why aren't you doing anything? They stole things, you should arrest them!"

Su Lianwu became excited upon hearing this.

But the constables had no interest in arguing with him anymore and simply kicked him out.

In the end, Su Lianwu could only return home in a huff.

When he arrived at his doorstep, he saw Su Wanshi arguing with a woman in her thirties who was also dressed in shabby clothes.

Originally, he wasn't in the mood to care about this matter; he didn't want to protect Su Wanshi anymore.

But then he suddenly heard Su Wanshi cursing at that woman.

"That's clearly my silver hairpin you're wearing. It was stolen from me last night, and now it's on your head. You must have stolen it!"

"Who said I stole it? Do you have any proof? Did you see it with your own eyes? Is your name written on this hair ornament? Now that I'm wearing it, it's mine!"

The woman showed no remorse or guilt, and as she spoke, she proudly reached out and touched the silver hairpin on her head.

She was a woman, and naturally loved beauty, so after stealing this hairpin yesterday, she couldn't bear to sell it and kept it for herself.

Upon hearing their conversation, Su Lianwu immediately rushed angrily to the woman.

He shouted, "Did you steal all our things last night?"

The woman was grabbed forcefully by him. Seeing his fierce and menacing appearance, she immediately cried out, "Husband, help! Someone is trying to kill your wife!"

Then, the woman's man rushed up from behind, carrying a kitchen knife.

"Let my wife go right now, or you'll regret it!"

But Su Lianwu didn't take him seriously at all, and looked at the man with a fierce gaze again.
