Chapter 354 It Turns Out to be an Old Friend
Richard walked aimlessly on the street, and all he had left was a cell phone.
He bought this phone many years ago. After using it for a while, he accidentally broke the screen. He originally wanted to get it repaired, but the fruit company had a new model on the market, so he immediately went to buy a new one. The old one was thrown into the drawer of the bedside table and forgotten by him.
Before the law enforcement officers came to seal up the house today, he searched everywhere in the room to see if he could find some cash that he had placed there. Fortunately, he found more than a hundred dollars and this old phone.
When Richard was about to leave the house, he was suddenly stopped by the head of law enforcement officers.
The chief pointed at a young policeman and said, "Search him and make sure he doesn't take anything out."
The young policeman touched the cell phone in Richard's inner jacket pocket. Richard panicked and looked at him with pleading eyes. He immediately took out more than a hundred dollars from his other pocket and stuffed it into Richard's hand using his body as a cover.
The young policeman hesitated for two seconds, pushed the money back to Richard, and left the phone to him. After continuing to search, he shouted into the room: "Sir, there is nothing."
The boss waved his hand and Richard was allowed to go.
He walked for a long time and finally sat on a bench in front of a shop on the street, thinking about what to do next.
Richard is an orphan. Along the way, he changed his destiny almost entirely by relying on himself to go to college, get a great job, make a lot of money, and live a wealthy life.
He fell from the clouds overnight, and he couldn't even figure out what triggered this incident and why Edwin was targeting him so much.
Things have come to this, there is no point in thinking about it.
Richard has always had such a positive side in his character. When he was poor, he was penniless and could attend classes in school for a whole day while hungry and drinking cold water.
"The rich have their own way of living, and the poor have their own way of living." Richard held a handful of banknotes in his pocket and said to himself, "Just think of it as me reloading the game and starting from scratch."
“No, not starting from scratch,” he said with a smile, “I still have over a hundred and a cell phone.”
Next, he would apply for a phone card and then find a job to make a living.
He might never have a chance to work in the gaming industry again, not because of the "non-compete agreement" - he doesn't have one, as it is illegal in his state - but because he lost the lawsuit and his personal reputation has plummeted to the bottom. Which company would dare to hire him?
He thought that he could go to a convenience store, supermarket, or restaurant, or do any job anywhere, to maintain his basic life before talking about the future.
Once he had made up his mind, he took action immediately. Richard patted his thigh, stood up and continued walking forward.
While waiting for the traffic light at the street corner, I suddenly heard someone calling me.
Richard knew who it was without turning around. He would never forget Edwin's disgusting voice.
When the green light came on, Richard followed the crowd onto the zebra crossing.
Edwin followed him: "I know you definitely don't want to pay attention to me, yes, I am here to make a victory statement to you."
Richard pretended not to hear.
Edwin said to himself, "I wanted to send you to jail, but I thought about it carefully. What's the point of being in jail? There's food and drink in there, and a place to sleep in the wind and rain. It's too comfortable and not suitable for you."
Just as they finished crossing the zebra crossing and stepped onto the sidewalk, Richard turned around and looked at him: "I knew it was you!"
Edwin smiled.
Richard couldn't help but ask, "What's the grudge between you and me? Is it worth it for you to go to such great lengths?"
"Haha, you finally asked." Edwin pointed to a coffee shop on the roadside, "Come on, I'll buy you a drink. After all, you can't even afford a sugar cube right now."
Edwin not only ordered a cup of coffee for Richard, but also a piece of cake for him: "Eat it, I believe you haven't had breakfast yet, and you have no idea about lunch and dinner. This should be your only meal today. Ah, I am really too kind."
Richard was also hungry, so he took a sip of coffee, picked up the fork and started eating the cake.
Edwin laughed again: "You really haven't changed at all. You can eat anything anyone gives you."
Richard nodded. Yes, now that he had reloaded the game, he might as well think of himself as the boy in his memory again. He didn't feel any humiliation of receiving "food given out of pity" at all.
As he thought about this, the fork that was about to reach his mouth suddenly stopped and fell back into the plate. He looked at Edwin's eyebrows carefully.
He thought, from the meaning of this, did they know each other before?
But Richard didn't see any familiarity on Edwin's face, so he asked, "Who are you?"
Edwin still kept smiling: "It's not your fault, really. After all, I have changed a lot compared to my high school self."
The floodgates of memory were instantly opened by the word "high school". Richard looked at Edwin again, but still couldn't tell which "old friend" he was.
"I think you remember the fat guy sitting at the back of the classroom." Edwin was too lazy to give any more hints. His time was precious now. It was already very difficult for him to spare such a short time to see Richard's miserable condition. He wanted to kill him quickly and then go back to make money. "It's me."
"Wow!" Richard exclaimed, "You've changed so much! I didn't even recognize you once."
He immediately relaxed and took a bite of cake, but he felt something was wrong: "We were comrades-in-arms back then, so we should have some friendship..."
"Shut up!" Edwin obviously didn't agree with Richard's statement, and the word "comrade" simply made him sick, "Who cares!"
Richard was so shocked by his sudden outburst that he leaned back, pulled the cake plate over, held it in his hand, and continued eating.
When Edwin saw his expression, he got even angrier: "Bullshit comrade! Who calls you a comrade? If it weren't for you, those people wouldn't have bullied me even more!"
When you are a student, there is always someone who is bullied - Richard was one of them in high school.
According to the nuns in the orphanage, he was abandoned there when he was born, and he didn't know who his mother or father was.
He was first adopted when he was five years old. When he graduated from elementary school, the couple went bankrupt due to futures trading and both committed suicide. He returned to the orphanage.
Not long after, another couple took him away. But the couple later fell in love with extreme sports. When he was a freshman in high school, they went rock climbing and both fell off the cliff.
They played a lot of sports, so most of the money was spent on travel and equipment, and the only valuable thing left for Richard was the semi-new apartment.
