The city lights were just coming on, and the flowing light and shadows passed through the car window, flickering on her face.
There was no sound in the car. It seemed like it had been driving for a very long time before arriving at an intersection and encountering a particularly long red light.
Xu Qingsong's hands were still on the steering wheel, sliding down along the contours from top to bottom. He turned his head and asked Liu Wangxue softly, "Are you asleep?"
Liu Wangxue was not asleep, she was just resting with her eyes closed. Hearing what he said, she opened her eyes and looked at him with a smile: "Your driving skills are not that bad."
Xu Qingsong took a deep breath and joked, "Why do I feel like I'm being implicated?"
Liu Wangxue laughed out loud.
Xu Qingsong handed her a paper bag, which contained the egg tarts he had packed when he bought mooncakes. He did not put them in the trunk but carried them to the driver's seat.
"Sweets can make people twice as happy. Eat one?" he said.
Liu Wangxue took it, took out one, took a big bite, and after finishing it, he sighed: "Ah - satisfied!"
The red light ended and the car drove straight through the intersection. Xu Qingsong asked her, "Have you decided what to eat?"
"I'm not really hungry..." Liu Wangxue glanced out the window. The road was not very clear under the dim street lights, but she felt familiar with it. "Hey, is this place close to Ocean University?"
"It seems so." said Xu Qingsong.
Liu Wangxue took out his phone and opened the evil map to confirm: "Really? Turn right at the next intersection."
Xu Qingsong immediately turned the steering wheel and turned right at the intersection, and asked, "Going to Ocean University?"
"No," Liu Wangxue tapped her phone on her palm, and suddenly she felt really happy. "There's a food street next to Ocean University. Have you heard of it? It's a happy paradise for college students."
Xu Qingsong said with a smile: "I thought you had a sudden urge to go back to your alma mater late at night."
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I made you misunderstand me and think I'm noble." Liu Wangxue tilted her head and smiled at him, then leaned back in her chair. "However, all of us students who graduated from Ocean University have a consensus."
"What consensus?"
Liu Wangxue said: "Checking in at the food court is like checking in at my alma mater."
Xu Qingsong tapped the steering wheel with his right hand: "Excuse me, does Haida know? What does she think?"
Liu Wangxue burst into laughter.
The food street is also called the night market street. It starts to get lively in the evening, with crowds of people. You can also see some people using their mobile phones or cameras to record eating videos.
Xu Qingsong found a place to park the car, and then he and Liu Wangxue blended into the crowd.
Xu Qingsong asked her: "Which store did you frequent before? Is your business still going on now?"
"One is a fried skewers stall run by a couple, and the other is a stir-fry restaurant." Liu Wangxue said, "They should still be there. They are the most famous in our Ocean University. On the first day of enrollment, the seniors recommended these two restaurants. They are delicious and not expensive. Many people eat there from freshman to senior year, and they are all die-hard fans. I heard that some people who graduated many years ago will definitely come back to eat there whenever they come to Ocean City."
"Then you are one of those who 'heard'."
"I don't count," Liu Wangxue stopped in front of a juice stand and ordered two glasses of pear juice. "I've hardly ever left Haishi since I came here to study and work. I come back every few days."
It turned out that the owner of the juice stall was also a graduate of Ocean University. After hearing what Liu Wangxue said, he took the initiative to strike up a conversation. After chatting, they found out that they were from the same class.
Not only are they from the same class, they are also in the same major, just in different classes.
"Oh my God, what a fate." Liu Wangxue took the initiative to extend his hand, having the illusion of meeting a relative.
The stall owner was a man who was a little overweight in middle age. He wiped his hands on his apron with a smile, then stretched out his hands and shook hands with Liu Wangxue.
"If I remember correctly, your name is Liu Wangxue, right?" asked the stall owner.
"How do you know?" Liu Wangxue was surprised. She had no impression of the stall owner in front of her.
The stall owner said loudly amid the hum of the juicer: "You underestimate yourself. You were a talented girl in our department back then. Even the title of department beauty gave you some points."
"That's an exaggeration." Liu Wangxue waved his hands.
The juicer stopped, and the stall owner sealed the cup and handed it to her: "Take the straw yourself."
Liu Wangxue took it. Xu Qingsong had already drawn two straws and helped her put them in. Then he took his own cup and scanned the code to pay.
Then the stall owner asked Liu Wangxue: "Are you still doing your old business?"
Liu Wangxue took a sip and said, "I stopped doing it a few years ago, but I recently encountered an opportunity and picked it up again."
The stall owner picked up a few pieces of fruit, cut them neatly and packed them in boxes: "That's great, seize the opportunity, wait until the show is aired, send a notification to our classmates group, and everyone should go and support it."
Despite the noisy environment around them, Liu Wangxue felt as if she could still hear regret in his voice.
"Okay!" she said with a smile.
The stall owner came out from behind and stuffed the packaged fruit slices into her hands: "It's a treat for you."
Before Liu Wangxue could say anything, the stall owner changed the subject: "The fried skewers stall and the stir-fry restaurant over there are still open. You should bring your friends over there quickly. The stir-fry restaurant may be out of seats now."
Another customer came to place an order, and the stall owner responded and went back to squeeze juice. He picked up the fruit and found that Liu Wangxue had not left yet, so he smiled and waved at her.
Liu Wangxue also waved at him, raised his foot and walked slowly forward.
Xu Qingsong tilted his head and looked at her: "Are you feeling emotional?"
Liu Wangxue nodded. After their graduation, only a few people made a name for themselves, and some of them came from wealthy families.
Most of my classmates are unknown workers, and there are also many who have changed their careers like the stall owners.
"I forgot to ask his name." Liu Wangxue stopped and looked back. Under the incandescent light of the stall, the slightly plump figure was busy.
"It's okay, we'll meet again in the future if we're destined to do so," said Xu Qingsong.
But everyone knows that this sentence is probably just a psychological comfort.
Walk a little further and you will reach the fried skewers stall.
Xu Qingsong took a small plastic basket, and Liu Wangxue took out all the food he liked and asked him, "Which one do you want to eat?"
Xu Qingsong drank the juice: "No more, you took it all."
"Okay, that's all."
After eating many meals together, Liu Wangxue discovered that Xu Qingsong's taste was quite similar to hers. They both couldn't eat spicy food and preferred light home-cooked meals.
But when eating grilled skewers, both of them liked spicy food, so Liu Wangxue directly asked for slightly spicy one.
There were three more orders in front of them, but the portions were not large, so the two of them stood and chatted while waiting.
After receiving the packaged food, Liu Wangxue couldn't wait to let Xu Qingsong taste it: "Fried skewers should be eaten fresh out of the pot, try it now."
Xu Qingsong picked out a bunch of lotus root boxes, blew on them, and took a bite.
Liu Wangxue thought she could hear the crisp sound of the starch on the surface: "Is it delicious?"
Xu Qingsong held juice in one hand and fried skewers in the other. He looked into her sparkling eyes, nodded, and said, "It's delicious."
