Chapter 23 Do you live together?
Ji Xilan sobbed in Liang Yanzhang's arms, "I don't care about Liang Jing. People secretly call me a vicious stepmother. People's words are scary. Will you always believe me?"
Liang Yanzhang comforted her, "If I don't trust you, who should I trust?"
"Sister Wen Ji married you before me, and you haven't forgotten her at all in these years. It was she who betrayed you, and you can't save face. Otherwise, how could you bear to divorce her?" Ji Xilan pulled away, full of resentment. "She lives in the old house, and you live together day and night. Doesn't it hurt you?"
Liang Yanzhang gestured for He Sang to sit down, staring at her with his eyes, and absentmindedly coaxed Ji Xilan, "We've been separated for more than 20 years, are you jealous of Wen Ji?"
"I'm not jealous of Sister Wen Ji, I'm jealous of the little girl. Now you--" Ji Xilan turned her head and found He Sang standing behind her. The tears in her eyes suddenly froze.
He Sang stepped forward, "Mrs. Liang."
She didn't respond.
Liang Yanzhang took off his coat as he explained, "The niece of Mr. Song from Huacheng Group is engaged. Her fiancé is an actor at the Provincial Drama Theater. I went to see a performance. He's tall and strong, and looks very energetic." Liang Yanzhang casually handed his coat to the nanny and said frankly, "He Sang is here. Don't you get along well with her? I'll bring her back to the old house to keep you company."
This sentence woke Ji Xilan up.
By following Liang Yanzhang, he was satisfied and his position became more secure.
She immediately put on her smile. "Actually, I don't know Xiao He. I also felt a little bit fond of her after our last meeting. Yan Zhang, why didn't you call and let me know? I'll prepare Xiao He's favorite meal."
Liang Yanzhang was generally very satisfied with Ji Xilan's virtuousness and knowledge, "Let's go to the restaurant. I've booked a Cantonese restaurant."
"You're so considerate to Xiao He." Ji Xilan held He Sang's hand, "Do you like Cantonese food?"
"I'm not picky about food..." She said stiffly, "I don't eat much either."
"You need to eat more. You're too thin. You'll need to take good care of yourself when preparing for pregnancy, taking care of the fetus, and breastfeeding. It's going to be very hard."
He Sang felt inexplicably uncomfortable. It seemed as if Ji Xilan's generosity and concern were deliberately performed for Liang Yanzhang to see. Moreover, her posture was too much like that of a first wife, which was not right.
Liang Jing's driver, Lao Yang, stepped into the entrance hall and happened to witness this scene.
He coughed in a fake manner, "Mr. Liang, Madam."
Liang Yanzhang took a sip of tea and couldn't hide his happiness. "Liang Jing is coming back to the old house tonight?"
"Secretary Liang has urgent business to attend to and won't be back." Old Yang respectfully conveyed Liang Jing's instructions, "I'll pick up Miss He."
Ji Xilan narrowed her eyes when she heard that. "Did Liang Jing ask you to answer it?"
"Of course." Old Yang answered humbly and politely, "Otherwise, how could I dare to pick someone up from the Liang family without permission?"
Liang Yanzhang stopped laughing completely, "What do you mean, Liang Jing?"
"I'm just following orders. As for the rest, it's better for Director Liang to ask in person."
Liang Yanzhang stroked the Buddhist beads on his wrist and looked at Ji Xilan calmly. The latter hugged He Sang affectionately and said, "Tell Liang Jing that Xiao He is at the old house. I will take good care of her. Why would a grown man pick her up? They are alone. Liang Jing has always valued his reputation. I remember that he rarely interacted with women."
Old Yang began to sweat. Ji Xilan's few words had aroused Liang Yanzhang's suspicion. Liang Jing, under the bright moonlight and gentle breeze, was like a pure and ethereal Tianshan snow lotus. He, more than any other man, should have followed the proper procedures and married an equally unattainable woman. He had just returned to China and immediately been involved with an actress. The Liang family would never tolerate this, nor would the Liang Group, which had placed such high hopes on their eldest son.
Ji Xilan is very capable and has made great achievements with little effort.
"Secretary Liang was sorting through Madam Weng Qiong's belongings and learned that Miss He was at the old house, so he asked her to meet him in person."
Liang Yanzhang refused to let him go and sat there without saying a word.
Old Yang had no time to waste. "Mr. Liang, no one knows his son better than his father. You know Secretary Liang best. He is very punctual. He ordered me to take Miss He to Courtyard No. 3 before six o'clock. If I exceed the time..."
The second half of the sentence stops at the point and leaves the suspense.
Liang Yanzhang was already over sixty, but his body was not stooped at all. He straightened up again and said, "Take it away."
Ji Xilan didn't interrupt the whole time and watched He Sang leave with Lao Yang.
*
He Sang had been to Liang Jing's Courtyard No. 3 once.
It was the male nanny who opened the door. When he came again today, the door was not locked, the living room was empty, and there were whispered conversations on the second floor.
She climbed the stairs and headed straight for the source of the sound.
The door was one-third open, and a set of red solid wood bookshelves were built against the wall, which looked like a study.
He Sang was about to knock on the door, but he glanced at it unintentionally and his raised hand hung in the air again.
At the corner of the table were the long, straight legs of a man. A woman in her thirties slowly squatted down and asked, "Will you stay in the country?"
Liang Jing clenched a fist with one hand and placed it on the table. With the other hand, he flipped through the book and turned a page with his thumb. "I haven't decided yet."
The woman begged, "Then can you take me abroad?"
Liang Jing read the book without any distractions, "Why should I bring you with me?"
"Teacher Liang." The woman suddenly took off her cardigan and loosened her bun, letting her long, slightly curly hair flow down. Her face was pure and elegant. "Ten years ago, I applied to the School of International Relations for you. I wanted to be close to you, to become your assistant and lover, so I chose this path. Please try to like me and accept me, okay?"
Liang Jing frowned, picked up the clothes scattered on the ground, avoided looking at the woman, and put his hand on her shoulder, "If you do this again, you will never be allowed to step through this door again."
Helpless and hopeless, the woman bent down and fell between his knees, eager to die, "Do you know how much I love you and am obsessed with you?"
He Sang covered his mouth, without making a sound, and tiptoed back.
Liang Jing turned slightly to the side, calm and collected, "You shouldn't admire me."
"Love is uncontrollable. It's a passion that makes you lose yourself." The woman said tearfully, "Teacher Liang, you're going to get married and have children. Why can't that woman be me?"
"Miss He, didn't you go in?"
Old Yang's words startled a man and a woman in the study. Liang Jing looked towards the study door, their eyes met. He Sang's hand trembled, and the door was completely opened. "I didn't see or hear anything."
He looked at Lao Yang.
"I received a call from the embassy asking whether you will be re-elected next year. I asked Miss He to go upstairs alone."
Liang Jing looked indifferent, "You go out first."
This is directed at women.
She hurriedly put on her clothes, raised her head, and said, "Teacher Liang——"
"Are you still going to make trouble?" Liang Jing's face showed no emotion, and he raised his tone.
The woman held back her tears, walked to the door, then stopped and looked at He Sang straight.
There was actually a second woman entering Liang Jing's private residence.
She had known him for ten years, and she had gone to great lengths to get a chance to be alone with him once in a while.
No woman has been with Liang Jing longer than her.
"Miss Xu?" Old Yang called her.
The woman couldn't help but shudder, "Uncle Yang, could you please give me a ride?"
Old Yang asked the man not far away, Liang Jing nodded, "Send her."
After they left, He Sang and Liang Jing were the only ones left in the study.
The man's expression was extremely dull, but he was polite. "What would you like to drink?"
