Chapter 13
The broth was indeed drunk. Although the beast meat tasted strange, the whole team enjoyed it very much. Jiang Fei only ate a few bites of the meat. She still couldn't get used to the strange texture and taste.
As for the origin of the meat, Alan did not ask in detail. Of course, he noticed something, but for some reason he did not ask further questions. However, there was a hint of inquiry in his eyes when he looked at Jiang Fei.
After two days of travel, they finally arrived in the North District. During this period, Jiang Fei also considered whether to borrow Allen or other people's light computer to contact Anna and the others, but on the one hand, she did not remember Anna and the others' contact information, and on the other hand, she did not want to reveal her true identity in front of others.
So she planned to return to D-3 base after reaching the North District, since she was just taking a ride anyway.
Before entering the North District, she suddenly wanted to leave the team, but Allen grabbed her with a sharp eye. The people at the front of the team entered the North District one by one after being checked by the North District guards. Allen lowered his voice and asked Jiang Fei: "Where do you want to run to?"
Jiang Fei frowned and pulled her arm back. Allen's tone was unfriendly, so there was no need for her to be friendly. She said, "This has nothing to do with you. I made it clear from the beginning that I was just taking a ride."
"Next one—follow up one by one, hurry up!" The staff in front impatiently urged the people behind to catch up. Allen pushed Jiang Fei again, motioning her to move forward, "It's impossible for you to leave now."
"What do you mean?" She was forced to move forward, but she kept looking back.
Alan's expression was complicated, unlike his usual expressionless face. He looked away and said, "Anyway, you can survive here." Although he had to sell some things, at least he could survive in this world.
The team moved very quickly. They almost never checked the optical computers. They just used the instruments in their hands to record the faces and other physiological information of the people entering and then let them in. The same thing happened when it was Jiang Fei's turn.
"Straighten your head." The person who entered the facial information ordered.
Jiang Fei squinted her eyes because of the bright light from the flash, causing the man to impatiently use his hands to straighten her head and enter her facial information. The staff member waved his hand, indicating that Jiang Fei could go in.
She paid attention to the situation at the entrance. She couldn't say that she had entered the North District yet. A wall more than ten meters high separated Jiang Fei and the others from the interior of the North District. If nothing unexpected happened, this was an isolation point to prevent them from bringing in germs.
Jiang Fei received a sign, which was where she would temporarily live in the quarantine center. The quarantine center was divided into small square rooms, with two people living in each room.
Coincidentally, Jiang Fei's new roommate was the curly-haired girl she had seen in the train compartment earlier. Her eyes lit up when she saw Jiang Fei, "So it's you."
"My bed is already made. Do you need my help making yours?" The girl was very enthusiastic. She patted the pillow in her hand to make it fluffy, and then walked to Jiang Fei's bed. "By the way, it seems that we haven't exchanged names yet. My name is Nona."
"Jiang Fei."
Nona helped Jiang Fei remake the bed, her face full of hope and joy, "After arriving in the North District, I can finally see my relatives again."
Although the last message they sent to Nona was in the North District, this was not absolute. Jiang Fei did not point this out. She just nodded and said, "Your relatives, are they your parents?"
"No, they are my two brothers. They are twins, so they are easy to recognize." Nona's expression became more relaxed when talking about her family. "My parents passed away when we were very young. You can say that my two brothers raised me."
The bed was made, and Nona smiled at Jiang Fei, "Everyone is talking about me, what about you? Why did you come to the North District?"
"I'm not sure either. After all, my family isn't here." This was all true. Her family was in another world. Nona misunderstood her words, and her thick eyebrows wrinkled together again. "Sorry to bring up your sad story."
"Not really." After all, she had already accepted the fact of her own death.
Nona was about to say something when the announcement from the ceiling above the quarantine center rang out, "Please quarantined individuals, please enter the disinfection room in an orderly manner according to the grid points for disinfection."
The grid point consists of four single rooms. When it was Jiang Fei's turn, she saw six other girls besides herself and Nona. The disinfection room was similar to the big bathhouse in the north, except that they had to be sprayed with disinfectant before and after bathing. Jiang Fei closed her eyes tightly every time the spray was applied.
After coming out of the disinfection room, everyone changed into uniform white clothes. The temperature in the isolation area was maintained at around 20 degrees, so it was not too cold to wear a white skirt. However, this color easily reminded Jiang Fei of the laboratory clothes in various science fiction movies and TV dramas.
Nona patted her curly hair and complained: "The smell of disinfectant is really bad. I don't know if I should disinfect it tomorrow."
Jiang Fei also lowered her head and smelled her hands and arms, which also smelled of disinfectant. She thought she had to find a chance to leave here. Her eyes swept over the guards guarding the three exits of the isolation area. Each of them was armed with a gun. It was not realistic for her to confront them head-on by herself, but if she released the black cat, her chances of winning would be great. However, she didn't want to let others know about the black cat's existence yet.
The system's mission included collecting pollutants, but what if others discovered that she could tame pollutants? The consequences would be disastrous, and she would definitely be controlled as a tool.
So she would never release the black cat unless it was a critical moment.
She passed an exit and paused briefly. Nona whispered in her ear, "I want to ask them if they know my brother."
Jiang Fei thought that if nothing unexpected happened, he would run into a wall. However, Nona had already walked up to the guard in black uniform and said, "Hello, do you know if there are two people named Jason and Hill here?"
The other party seemed not to hear Nona's voice, and didn't even give her a look. Nona was a little angry and raised her voice a little, and asked again: "Have you heard of Jason and Hill? They are my brothers!"
Seeing that they still didn't respond, Nona reached out and wanted to pat one of them on the arm. At this time, they finally responded, pointing the black muzzle of the gun at Nona's head.
"Hey...what are you doing! I'm just, just asking a question!" Nona's voice was trembling. She took two steps back. Seeing this, Jiang Fei pulled her behind him. She raised her hands to show that she had no ill intentions, and the two guards put down their guns.
Nona was so scared that she didn't say a word on the way back. Jiang Fei helped her get dinner. The dinner was a simple toast with a piece of artificial-looking meat and a drink that she couldn't name.
"Are you okay?" Jiang Fei put dinner on her bedside.
Nona was lying on the bed with her back to her. Her voice was muffled through the quilt, "Why do they treat us like this? It's as if... we are not even human beings in their eyes."
Her words hit the point. In fact, Jiang Fei also felt it. Compared with the previous time at the D-3 base, she felt more clearly that outsiders like them were not even considered human beings here. Even if there was indeed xenophobia, wasn't this a bit too serious?
Jiang Fei raised her head. As it was already night, the lights in the quarantine area had dimmed. She looked around. Everyone was staying in a small cubicle, and everyone was wearing the same white clothing, just like...
Just like guinea pigs.

When I woke up the next day, there was no disinfection process today. It was replaced by a physical examination. However, this was different from the physical examination Jiang Fei had in mind. The purpose was not to check whether the body was healthy, but the focus was on other places.
"Very beautiful eyes, with a rare pure black pupil." This is the evaluation made by the doctor after examining Jiang Fei's eyes. It was not like describing a person, but rather evaluating an object. He lowered his head and wrote something on the notebook. Jiang Fei could not see it clearly. Then he leaned in to observe her eyes closely and grinned. "It's perfect. He will definitely like it."
Jiang Fei caught the key words in his words. Who was "he" referring to? He must be an important figure. Could he have some special preference for eyes? She remained calm on the surface, but in fact, she was constantly brainstorming.
After the physical examination, Jiang Fei asked Nona, "Did the doctor say anything to you?"
Nona frowned. "She said my skin was very good, smooth as silk, but it felt so strange. She wasn't just complimenting my skin. It was as if, in her eyes, I was a piece of moving skin."
She wasn't too slow either, so she asked, "So what did they say to you?"
"He said my eyes are beautiful." Jiang Fei simply mentioned this, not telling Nona anything else the doctor said. "I don't think this place took us in simply out of kindness."
Nona was embarrassed, "But my brothers told me to go to the North District."
As a child raised by her brother, she believed his words immensely, which gave Jiang Fei a headache. After returning to the cubicle, she said to Nona, "Can you show me the last message they sent you?"
Nona's optical computer was accidentally damaged during the escape, and some data was lost. Even the text messages she received were incomplete. Nona had already regarded Jiang Fei as her friend, and she retrieved the last message received from the optical computer.
[Jason: We are in the North District, you must ■■■]
Jiang Fei looked at the text message and said, "The text at the end is all garbled."
"Yeah, but since they told me their location, they must be hoping that I can find them, right?" Nona is still very naive and takes everything for granted.
That night, Jiang Fei lay in bed, tossing and turning for a long time before falling asleep. Not long after she fell asleep, the black cat that had been hiding obediently in the alien space suddenly jumped out, wagging its tail and walked towards the outside of the isolation area.
