Chapter 4
Jack immediately became serious, "Are you serious? The guards are up there??"
"Of course, I saw the captain of the guard team!" The guy's face turned red with excitement, which made Jiang Fei curious about the other party's background.
"It seems that the Federation is serious this time," said Jack.
Anna finished the drink in the cup. "But it's probably because of the order from the bigwigs above. Otherwise, they wouldn't care about the lives of us."
"I heard that the newly appointed consul specifically ordered the guards to come down and eliminate the pollutants for the sake of his own political image." Lucian said lightly.
Gru wrinkled his nose. "How hypocritical! If they had that much time, they'd be better off distributing some supplies to the small bases near the districts."
“Don’t be silly. They’d rather spend their money on things like this than give us anything directly,” Lucian said pointedly.
“But I heard that the captain of the guard was originally a resident of the underground city, and was later recruited by the Sky City because he was so outstanding! That’s really amazing!” The guy was not very old and was in the period of liking to fantasize and dream.
Jack tapped him on the head. "You'd better stop daydreaming. He's been through countless rounds of selection throughout the dungeon. He's truly one in a million. Only someone like him is qualified to go to Sky City! With you? I'm afraid you wouldn't even make it past the audition."
Jiang Fei listened quietly at the side, absorbing and integrating the information. It was not that there was no personnel flow between the Sky City and the Underground City. At least as Jack said, the Sky City would also recruit truly outstanding talents.
"Also—I heard that in the final selection, only one person will be able to win and enter Sky City, and his opponent is his best friend."
The guy asked curiously: "What happened next? Did they go to Sky City together?"
"Of course not! He killed his best friend with his own hands! Don't you understand? He is indeed excellent, but also cruel and ruthless!" After saying this, Jack sighed, "You are still too naive."
Jiang Fei added another impression of the captain of the guard team: "cold personality".
As a team sent by Sky City, Jack even limped to the ground to greet them at the transit station, dragging his wooden leg to show his friendship.
The light brain on Anna's wrist lit up, and it turned out that it was their turn to refuel.
"Do you want to stay here or go up with us?" Anna asked Jiang Fei before leaving.
The underground tavern was surrounded by burly men, and the air was filled with the smell of sweat and a strong masculine odor. Jiang Fei couldn't stay there at all. Besides, she also wanted to know what kind of person the captain of the guard they were talking about was.
So Jiang Fei stood up immediately and said, "I'll go with you." She couldn't stay here for even a second.
Gru smiled and said, "You are also curious about what kind of person the captain is, right?" Because Anna accepted Jiang Fei to join their base, the generous Gru had already regarded her as half of his own, and patted Jiang Fei on the shoulder while speaking.
He probably only used 20% of his usual strength, but he still made Jiang Fei stagger and almost fall.
"Hey! Are you okay?" Gru widened his eyes and looked at his hand in surprise, "I didn't use much strength just now."
Lucian, walking ahead, said coldly, "She's obviously very weak. You'll have to be careful not to kill her with one blow. Incidentally, she's only on the surface because the air in the underground tavern is too foul."
"Hmm? Does it really smell that bad? I think it's okay!"
Lucian glanced at Gru. "That's because you smell pretty much like them."
The unrefined Gru only now realized that Lucian was mocking him. "Hey! I hear you, are you being sarcastic?!"
Anna, who was walking in front, said, "Everyone, be quiet—"
Gru immediately fell silent. It was obvious that Anna was very authoritative in the team.
After arriving on the ground, Anna first put on a helmet and then walked to their transport vehicle, skillfully using the oil gun to refuel. The transfer station on the ground was not very large. On the other side was the Sky City Guards wearing uniform black protective clothing. The leading man was burly, and was estimated to be more than 1.8 meters or even 1.9 meters tall.
He had two pistols on his waist. Their equipment was obviously much more advanced than Anna's. He didn't even need to take off his helmet. He just raised his hand and pressed the button on his neck. The dark gray helmet instantly became transparent, and Jiang Fei was able to see his face clearly.
I originally thought that his body and face should be a standard tough guy face, but that is not the case. His facial features are handsome, even a bit delicate, and his eyes are dark green, like a wolf's eyes.
"The One-Legged Cat Supply Station welcomes the arrival of the escort team, and also welcomes Captain Bill." Jack had a bright smile on his face.
The man named Bill had a cold expression on his face and just nodded slightly. "In order to eliminate pollutants, we have requested to requisition this transit station as a strategic camp in accordance with the federal temporary decree." He spoke in a businesslike tone.
Gru grumbled quietly, "Do you really think you're so great just because you're the captain? Your cocky attitude is really annoying."
His whisper was actually not quiet at all, and it even startled Bill who was not far away. He suddenly walked towards them, and Jiang Fei hurriedly signaled Gru to shut up.
But it was too late. He had already walked in front of them, and with his height advantage, he easily looked down at Jiang Fei and Gru. He raised an eyebrow and asked, "Is this your transport vehicle?"
Anna asked, "What's wrong?"
"It's very important. I heard from the person in charge of the transfer station that you just encountered the pollutant." He stared at Jiang Fei for a few seconds, "Tell me everything you know."
The tone of command was very annoying. Gru curled his lips and said, "I don't know. I didn't even see the appearance of the pollutant clearly in the car." He was telling the truth. He was busy shooting at that time, and the situation was urgent. He almost thought he was going to die in its hands.
"Oh, really? Then what do you know?" Bill looked at Lucian.
“I didn’t see it clearly, just like him,” Lucian said.
Finally, Bill's gaze fell on Jiang Fei. "Then you should know something, right?"
Why is he so sure?
Anna had already filled the transport truck with fuel. Seeing Bill questioning Jiang Fei so arrogantly, she strode towards Bill and stood in front of Jiang Fei. "I'm the captain of their team. If you have anything to ask, just ask me directly."
"Oh, so you're the captain? Didn't you clearly see the appearance and characteristics of the pollutants while you were driving the transport vehicle?" Bill narrowed his eyes. "I have an execution order from the Federal Governor. This authorizes me to investigate the optical computer data of every citizen during this mission, and you have no right to refuse."
"Okay." Anna didn't know that she couldn't just go against the Federation directly, so she reached out and took off the light computer from her wrist.
Bill didn't mean to leave. He looked at Jiang Fei behind Anna and said, "I need to check her computer as well."
How could Jiang Fei possibly have this thing? She had only been in this world for less than a day, and she took a moment to react to even the most basic nouns.
She pursed her lips and said, "I lost my optical brain when I was trying to escape from the pollutants just now."
"Lost? That's interesting. Few people would lose their laptops directly. It would be understandable if it was broken." Bill obviously didn't believe Jiang Fei's explanation.
"If it's lost, it's lost. Do you think I have to go back to that damn place to find it before you believe it? It's very dangerous there." Anna came to Jiang Fei's rescue.
Bill took Anna's light brain and quickly reviewed the footage of when they first encountered the pollutants. The footage was projected in mid-air and was translucent, which meant that Jiang Fei could also see it.
She saw Anna in the picture turning the steering wheel quickly, and she angrily cursed Jiang Fei because he stuck his head out of the car window, and this sentence was also recorded.
"We also need to check the dashcam on your truck, and..." He paused, "How come I didn't realize you had the nerve to stick your head out the window to see the pollutants? Aren't you afraid of death?"
Jiang Fei, who had actually died once: Of course I’m afraid.
She did not refute Bill's words. To be able to be a captain, and the captain of the elite troops of Sky City, he must hate being talked back to. Such a person values rank and order the most.
Jiang Fei was now just glad that she didn't directly express her guess in the car, but her abnormal behavior was likely to attract Bill's attention.
That's terrible. I should have just pretended not to see it.
Anna didn't know what would happen next. She was just worried that Jiang Fei's illegal identity would be exposed. "If you want to investigate, then go ahead."
At this juncture, Lucian suddenly spoke up, "Captain, have you forgotten? Our dashcam has been broken for a long time, and the camera is completely shattered."
"What?" Anna suddenly understood. "Is it really that serious? I thought it could still be used. Sorry, our equipment is not as advanced as yours, and we don't have the money to repair it if it breaks, so you may be disappointed."
Bill walked towards the transport truck. He still didn't believe it and looked at the recorder carefully. It was really broken into pieces as Lucian said.
When he turned back, Lucian shrugged. "I already said that."
The recorder in the transport truck was the oldest model, and even the memory card was broken into two pieces, making it extremely difficult to restore it.
Bill's face darkened. Lucian glanced at Jiang Fei and whispered, "Don't worry, I'm the only one who knows your secret."
Wait, what secret does he know?
