Chapter 5

Wan Qiu is doing homework.

He has trouble concentrating and does his homework very slowly. It takes him several times longer than the average student to complete the same amount of homework.

I spent my days outside collecting trash and my nights focusing on my summer homework.

In the narrow and small bedroom, even if the bedroom door was closed, the noisy sounds could still be heard, disturbing Wan Qiu's mind which was already difficult to concentrate.

Ning Hai came back today because Ning Qiaozhen told Ning Hai that he suddenly got 5,000 yuan. Ning Hai, who had been missing outside, immediately brought a group of friends home to spend this sudden money.

Mom and Dad don’t like to save money. Once they have money, they will spend it quickly. The rest of the time they live a tight life. Therefore, Wanqiu developed the habit of scavenging.

Ning Qiaozhen bought a lot of takeout, while Ning Hai and others brought a lot of wine. They were already drunk and the noisy sounds were endless.

Wan Qiu couldn't concentrate and looked at the snow-white bandage on his wrist unconsciously.

A very clean bandage. I might be able to use it again after washing it.

"Wan Qiu!!!" Ning Qiaozhen's sharp female voice was very harsh among the voices of a group of men.

Wan Qiu immediately put down his pen, stood up, opened the bedroom door, and stood in front of a group of shirtless men with red faces and thick necks who were drunk in the hot summer night.

"Oh, Wan Qiu is here. I didn't see him when I came in. I thought he wasn't here." Ning Hai's friend laughed when he saw Wan Qiu. He stretched out his hand to hold Wan Qiu's neck and pressed him down. "Come, sit down. Have you eaten?"

Wan Qiu did not adjust his posture to sit firmly. The thin Wan Qiu seemed to be only one-third of the man's size. The man's arm was as huge as a mountain and pressed hard on his neck.

On the table in front of Wan Qiu was a mess of takeout food spread out in plastic bags and plastic boxes, as well as unfinished beer that had been accidentally knocked over and greasy soup. The smell of food, alcohol, cigarettes, and sweat filled the narrow, old living room of the rented apartment.

"Come, let Wanqiu have a taste of the wine too." The man pointed the bottle in his hand directly at Wanqiu's mouth.

"Hahaha, what are you doing, you old pervert! How can you let a child drink?" The man next to him slapped the man on the back, and the bottle in the man's hand shook, spilling a lot of wine.

"Men have to drink. Wan Qiu is also a man." The man was not angry, and said with a smile, "In the future, men who can drink will be liked by girls!"

Several people burst into laughter.

"Wan Qiu, go out and buy some barbecue and two bottles of beer. No, three bottles." Ning Qiaozhen took out a stack of money from her pocket and put it in Wan Qiu's hand. "If there is any extra, buy yourself some snacks."

Wan Qiu counted the money and found that what Ning Qiaozhen gave was enough, and there was indeed some extra.

When Wan Qiu stood up, the man who was hugging him patted his waist vigorously: "Go quickly, uncle is thirsty."

Wan Qiu nodded, took the money and left, hearing a chaotic noise behind him.

With Wan Qiu's ability, he couldn't carry three bottles of beer, but Wan Qiu was very familiar with this kind of thing. He found a wooden board with rollers from the place used to store sundries downstairs in the dilapidated community. Originally, this was a cart. Wan Qiu asked the garbage collector to repair it and turned it into a small cart that could transport things.

When Wan Qiu came out of the old neighborhood, he immediately attracted the attention of two people who were resting in the car.

"Why is he coming out so late at night?" the yellow-haired man frowned.

"He was sent out to buy alcohol." The man noticed the small trailer towed behind Wan Qiu. They had seen it several times during the period of tracking.

Ning Hai is back today, and he should be ordering Wan Qiu around.

The man frowned. They had just received information that Wan Qiu was the boss's youngest son, and they were told to take care of and protect Wan Qiu.

The boss made it clear that if anything really happened, they could step in.

"Let's go." The man patted his companion on the shoulder, "Follow me and see if there's anything I can do to help."

"Yeah." The yellow-haired man also got out of the car, and the two tall men walked side by side behind Wan Qiu.

The rope tied to Wan Qiu's cart was not a soft hemp rope, but a plastic rope used to tie boxes. If he put heavy beer on it, it would be very tight when pulling it.

Because it is an old neighborhood, and because it is remote and the road repairs nearby are intermittent, people have to go farther to shop, so the rent here is particularly cheap.

Under the pitch-black sky, there were not many pedestrians on the road. Two tall men were following a child not too far away, which made people look at them sideways, but they immediately looked away because the men looked not easy to deal with.

"This kid is too unguarded." The yellow-haired man said in a low voice.

"There's really nothing to be wary of." He looks like a poor guy.

The yellow-haired man asked, "Didn't he get injured today? How can he still carry wine?"

The man didn't say anything. He suddenly thought of what he heard the boy say when he sent him to the hospital during the day.

——'Minor injury' 'to this extent'.

Wan Qiu went to the store first and picked up three cases of beer and put them on a small cart.

"Are you here to buy beer for your dad again?" The shop owner was very considerate and found a rope to secure the beer on the cart. "Be careful when you go back. Don't break it like last time. Your dad will beat you again."

Wan Qiu nodded.

"Have you eaten?" asked the shop owner.

Wan Qiu blinked and said nothing.

The shop owner cursed and said, "Wait a minute here, what kind of father is he who only cares about eating all day long?"

The shop owner took out a bag of bread that had obviously been opened and half eaten and gave it to Wan Qiu: "Eat it."

Wan Qiu held the bread and looked up at the shop owner and smiled: "Thank you, Auntie."

"Oh, this child looks so cute when he smiles." The shop owner couldn't help but laugh along.

"Goodbye, Auntie."

The yellow-haired man on the side gritted his teeth and said, "I can't stand this anymore. The boss's son is eating other people's leftovers here..."

"Hey." The man pulled his companion and saw Wan Qiu turning around, facing them. The two men saw Wan Qiu's expression at this time.

Wan Qiu smiled, her delicate and beautiful eyebrows relaxed, she looked at the bread in her hand, she was very happy, she even couldn't wait to take a big bite.

The yellow-haired man was silent for a moment: "Fuck... fuck..."

Wan Qiu seemed to have not noticed the two people blocking his way. He did not even raise his head and was only focused on eating bread. His thin body leaned forward, pulling the beer hard as he walked behind them, brushing past them.

The yellow-haired man was about to explode with anger: "Don't take this kind of job anymore. I would rather cheat on my partner or have a fight with someone else than to see this... this... this..."

The man said nothing, but just tapped his phone quickly, constantly reporting the news, and took a photo of Wan Qiu's back and sent it to him.

Soon he received a reply from his boss: Help him, I'll be there now.

The man replied: Boss, you don’t have to come over. He has already gone upstairs when you come. We will keep a close eye on him.

The boss hesitated for a while before replying: I understand, please.

The man put his phone away and sighed, "This is a really hard job to take."

The man suddenly found that his companion was gone.
