Chapter 9

Wan Qiu jogged all the way and felt that he did not run very far, but he felt physically tired.

Before passing by the strange woman, Wan Qiu also knew that she was looking at him.

But Wan Qiu did not think that this was a special look. Passersby would occasionally notice a dead grass suddenly appearing in a beautiful green belt, and they could only think that it was curiosity.

The woman was very beautiful, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

There was a pleasant smell on his body, but Wan Qiu couldn't describe what it was.

Wan Qiu smelled his sleeves. Although he had washed them carefully, they were still stained with a rotten smell because they had been next to the trash can.

The smell of apples, grease, dragon fruit, and rotten oranges.

These should be very unpleasant smells, just like rotten grass is unpleasant.

Wan Qiu is accustomed to approaching others unintentionally, and then the other party will intentionally stay away from him.

The beautiful woman stood like a blooming flower in the middle of the narrow street, and there was no escape.

Wan Qiu just wanted to leave the woman immediately and didn't want her to be tainted with the smell of decay.

The beautiful woman simply grabbed his arm.

Even more than the pain, the unexpected change that caught Wan Qiu off guard made him feel helpless.

The beautiful woman showed a look that he was very familiar with, anger, shock, and the color of "unhappiness".

The woman was not tall, but seemed to be very strong. Wan Qiu could feel the anger in that strength, burning along his arm like a raging flame.

The consequence of being burned by the raging fire would certainly be long-lasting burning pain, and Wan Qiu was panicked.

If he hadn't run, would he have been beaten?

His instinct drove him to flee, and fortunately he succeeded in escaping.

Wan Qiu turned back for some unknown reason, wanting to see if the source of danger was getting farther away from him, but suddenly he met a pair of eyes.

The owner of those eyes had been standing behind him, staring at him silently at some point.

Very high.

It's a boy.

Wan Qiu looked up and saw a very beautiful face.

When Wan Qiu saw such a boy for the first time, he had a very strange feeling, as if there was a layer of transparent glass called barrier that separated him and the boy into two different worlds.

Why was he looking at himself?

Wan Qiu prefers to behave accordingly based on the other person's facial expressions and eyes, but when facing boys, Wan Qiu can't find any clues as to what he should do.

He subconsciously pulled the hem of his clothes, because the beautiful woman lifted up his clothes and the order not to let others see his injuries was broken, so Wan Qiu couldn't help but feel nervous.

Wan Qiu took a step back unconsciously, turned around, and without showing any curiosity towards the boy, he was about to leave.

"Hello." The boy's voice came, gentle, harmless, and calm, "Can I be your friend?"

Wan Qiu stopped and blinked. This was a quiet alley with a trash can at the end of it. He inadvertently found the route he was most familiar with to escape.

There was no third person in the narrow alley, so the boy could only be talking to him. Wan Qiu then turned around.

"My name is Chu Yigui, and I want to make friends with you." The man no longer maintained the expression that made Wan Qiu feel strange and undetectable, and smiled warmly, "Can I be your friend?"

Wan Qiu raised his head and looked at the boy who was much taller than him.

When Wan Qiu was still young, he saw the whole process of the children next door making friends. Just by asking "Can I play with you?" or "Can we be friends?", he could accomplish a great feat of making friends.

But later, Wan Qiu realized that this was not the case.

Or rather, I am the only one who cannot do this.

He once summoned up his greatest courage, with certainty and hope, and seriously said, "Can we be friends?"

——You can’t be friends with fools.

Wan Qiu blinked, and there was a hint of confusion in his eyes as he looked at Chu Yigui.

Wan Qiu would not say no: "Okay."

Chu Yigui called Yang Xiaoyu, then put the phone in his pocket and continued to ask, "What's your name?"

"My name is Wan Qiu." Wan Qiu replied.

"So we're friends from now on?"

Wan Qiu nodded somewhat dully.

"Then can I follow you and play with you?" Chu Yigui bent down slightly, his eyes at the same level as Wan Qiu.

"Yes." Wan Qiu replied.

"Do you need me to help you pull this thing?" Chu Yigui pointed at the small cart in Wan Qiu's hand that was already loaded with a lot of cardboard, "I can help you."

One of Wan Qiu's hands was holding a long pair of pliers to make it easier to rummage through garbage, and the other hand was holding a plastic bag containing bottles. The small cart could be easily pulled, so all the things were not heavy, just rather cumbersome.

Wan Qiu took a look at the things he had collected with great effort, and then looked at Chu Yigui tentatively.

This was already a signal of unwillingness, Chu Yigui said: "Of course I won't force you..."

Before he finished speaking, a hand stretched out in front of him.

The hand was thin and small, a little dirty, and even the joints were too thin, like children's chopsticks that could be easily broken.

Chu Yigui looked up in surprise and met a pair of beautiful eyes, but they were empty without any emotions or things.

Wan Qiu said, "Here."

Chu Yigui took the plastic rope that was not very convenient to use, and could hardly hide his slightly confused expression at the moment.

"Why did you give it to me?" Chu Yigui didn't know how important this cart filled with cardboard could be, but he knew Wan Qiu didn't want to.

Wan Qiu also had confusion in his eyes: "Didn't you ask me for it?"

Wan Qiu's obedience made Chu Yigui feel uncomfortable.

"If I want you, just give it to me?" Chu Yigui asked.

Wan Qiu nodded hesitantly.

"Then I take it?" Chu Yigui tentatively pulled the small cart towards him. Wan Qiu's eyes were following the movement of the small cart. Even though he was reluctant to let it go, he did not express any refusal.

A hint of complexity and weirdness emerged beneath Chu Yigui's smile.

"I won't take it away, I'll just hold it for you." Chu Yigui took two steps forward and pulled the cart closer to Wan Qiu. "I'll follow you. Where are we going?"

"The next trash can in front." Wan Qiu pointed to the trash can at the end of the alley.

Chu Yigui followed Wan Qiu, but Wan Qiu seemed not curious about the person following him.

But this shabby little cart of no value was something that Wanqiu would look back at from time to time, which showed its importance.

Wan Qiu was too silent, and unless Chu Yigui asked, Wan Qiu would not take the initiative to find a topic.

Chu Yigui watched Wan Qiu skillfully search through every trash can. He did not show any happiness when he found something, nor did he feel disappointed when he found nothing.

It seems like I can accept all outcomes, good or bad.

Chu Yigui followed Wan Qiu and a man passed by him. He stuffed a power bank, a charger and a pair of headphones into his hands.

Chu Yigui understood something and took out his cell phone, only to find that it had been turned off at some point.

After connecting the power bank and the charger, Chu Yigui's smile faded briefly. After opening his phone and seeing the inquiring message, his expression became calm.

Suddenly realizing someone was looking at him, Chu Yigui looked over and met Wan Qiu's eyes.

Chu Yigui smiled again.

But Wan Qiu saw Chu Yigui's expression just now.

It means 'unhappy'.

Dad often has this expression when he is in a bad mood.

But after seeing me, that obvious unhappiness suddenly changed into another expression.

Chu Yigui smiled, but Wan Qiu still couldn't read "happiness" in his smile.

Sometimes my mother does this too.

I was in a bad mood but I would still smile and show a 'happy' expression in front of my father, but my mother was not happy.

This person is unhappy.

Under normal circumstances, if Wan Qiu encountered someone who was "unhappy", he would avoid them.

For example, today's beautiful woman, after showing an obviously unhappy look, Wan Qiu chose to run away.

But now he and Chu Yigui are friends. If a friend is unhappy, he cannot avoid him. Friends should be together.

To be together, you have to endure your friends' unhappiness.

Wan Qiu's little joy of having a friend was enough to make him willing to endure some things.

Wan Qiu held up his hands to the severe purple area on his lower abdomen that caused pain in his legs. "Can you not hit me here?"
