Chapter 15: Both People and Dogs
◎All that’s missing is the heroine! Come quickly!◎
Over the past week, Ji Nan has received nearly ten express deliveries of various sizes.
The phone number and name were his, but the courier was not purchased by him.
At first, he thought it was something sent by his family, but after asking around, he found out that it was not the case. Being suspicious and cautious, he was worried that it was some new type of scam, so he did not sign for it.
After the number of express deliveries reached ten, Ji Nan received a message from Zhong Jiajing before he even received a urging call from the station staff.
【Why don’t you go pick up the express? 】
Ji Nan was a little surprised. He took a screenshot of the long picture and sent it over.
Did you buy all of these? I think it's a scam and plan to contact the staff to return them tomorrow.
Zhong Jiajing hurriedly stopped him.
[No, no, no, no, these are all bought by me for my little ones. I forgot to tell you these days.]
She sent me a picture of a sad child.
[I was inconsiderate on this matter. Don't bother making this trip. I'll contact the staff to send it home.]
About an hour later, a man in work clothes came over with a trailer of express delivery.
"Brother, are you opening a dog cafe at home? You bought so much dog food."
Ji Nan stared at the pile of boxes, feeling a little tired. "It's almost the same, but people just thought I was a pig farmer."
After unloading everything, Ji Nan looked at the packages in the living room and felt a little at a loss as to where to start.
It is understandable that the two dogs were grunting and drooling around the huge box of dog food, but Dongdong, who was usually lazy, was willing to move his noble body and lie on the box, wagging his tail. It was obvious that there was some kind of love potion in the box.
Ji Nan sat on the ground and casually opened the box closest to him. It contained a diaper pad for the dog.
He unpacked the rest one by one, and found dog food, cat litter, freeze-dried food, pet toys and other things for cats and dogs.
As he held the four pet bowls, he sent a message to Zhong Jiajing with an expressionless face.
"What's going on? I can't remember how many kids I have. Or are you planning to move in too?"
Zhong Jiajing replied: [Maybe you’ve heard of buy three get one free…]
Ji Nan thought he was probably really dizzy, his mind was not able to process for a while. His ears were slightly red, and he simply put down the phone without replying. But Zhong Jiajing was not the kind of person who would stay quiet.
"Besides, there are four mouths in your family, right? Why don't you put that bowl to good use? I bought it from the finest materials anyway, so I can guarantee your precious body won't be tarnished in the slightest."
[Oh, then I'm truly honored to be treated the same way as your babies. [Smile]]
Was this a hint? His words gave Zhong Jiajing some room to think.
The next day, Zhong Jiajing went to Ji Nan's store when it was not too busy in the morning, but it was already eleven o'clock and no one was there.
She waited for ten minutes but no one showed up, so she asked Xiaobai, "Where's your boss? Did he fall into the toilet?"
"That's impossible," Xiaobai said seriously, "I've been working in this shop for half a year and I've never seen the boss go to the bathroom."
Zhong Jiajing nodded. "Okay, then let me ask this another way. Where is your fairy who never goes to the toilet?"
"Hehe, he's absent from work." Xiaobai grinned.
It seems like she can let loose now that the supervisor is not around. No wonder she is in such a good mood today.
Fellow worker Zhong Jiajing expressed jealousy. She shook her head sadly and said, "Comrade, your thinking is wrong! We should love what we do and be proactive in our work!"
"You don't understand," Xiaobai shook his index finger. "Whenever I see him, I always feel like I need to take action. Is this affecting my work and studies?"
"Action?" Zhong Jiajing asked suspiciously, "Are you going to chase him?"
Xiaobai looked surprised, as if to ask, "How could that be possible?"
She dug out the two remaining photos of the "family of three" in the drawer and said, "I am your absolute supporter. If you don't make progress, I won't be able to eat for a day."
Zhong Jiajing's lips trembled slightly. "Okay, to prevent you from losing weight, I decided to add some fuel to your stove."
"What?"
"When the fairy arrives, please tell me. I need to connect with him."
Xiaobai was so excited when he heard this that he wanted to grab Ji Nan right now, tie him up and put him in Zhong Jiajing's arms.
Unfortunately, she waited and waited, but no one showed up until the flowers had all wilted, and she even almost tore off a piece of the wall at the entrance of the store.
Xiaobai knew very well that the building opposite closed at 6pm.
At around five o'clock, Xiaobai couldn't help but send a message to Zhong Jiajing to try and get some help, "Maybe you need to work overtime tonight?"
"Thank you, please don't make such a vicious curse." Zhong Jiajing, who was happily slacking off, suddenly lost all interest.
That means no overtime, and the last spark of anger in Xiaobai's heart was extinguished.
Seeing that it was almost time to get off work, Xiaobai hesitated for a long time and decided to send a message to Ji Nan to "say hello".
"Boss, why aren't you coming today? Are you sick? Do you want me to send someone over to check on you?"
Even though Ji Nan never replied to her WeChat messages, mainly because she always asked some inexplicable questions, she still planned to give it a try today. After all, not replying didn't mean he wouldn't read it, right?
There have been several hot searches in the past, saying that WeChat is about to launch a message reading function. As a thought replyer, she is a staunch opponent and debated with supporters online for a whole week before she won a landslide victory.
But today, she actually had some rebellious thoughts...
Conventions are not so easy to break, especially Ji Nan's conventions. He still did not reply to her invalid message.
As for why it was ineffective, it was because Ji Nan had said in the work group this morning that he had something to do and would not come to the store today.
Whatever the reason, it is not the cause of the illness.
She stared at her phone, silently praying for good luck.
"What are you mumbling about? You still can't even remember the ingredients from eight hundred years ago?"
Xiaobai jumped up excitedly when he heard the familiar voice, "Fairy, oh no, boss, you're here!"
Ji Nan sneered, "Oh, so it was you who spread the rumor that I had a sex change."
Xiaobai didn't have time to reply to him, so he immediately sent the information to Zhong Jiajing.
【All that’s missing is the heroine! Come quickly!】
[Just wait for the people to get off work. Running back and forth for just ten minutes is tiring.]
Xiaobai was almost vomiting blood and dying, but he still asked her to use tactics to delay for ten minutes.
She raised the corners of her stiff mouth and smiled at Ji Nan, "Haha, I don't understand what you are talking about at all."
In the afternoon, Zhong Jiajing sent him a message, calling him a fairy and asking him if he would come to the store today.
Ji Nan was puzzled and said, "Fairy? Have you degenerated to the point where you can't tell the difference between male and female after just a few months of classes?"
But Zhong Jiajing insisted that it was Xiaobai who spread it, so he asked this question.
He had other work to do today, but when he came back he thought it wasn't far from home, so he just ran over again to see what tricks Zhong Jiajing was going to get up to.
Xiaobai was obviously absent-minded. He just stared at the time and prayed that the minute would go faster.
She was worried that her boss would turn around and leave, so she had to find some topics to delay him.
"Oh, I was just reading the questions." She didn't care whether the words were true or not, and ran to the storage cabinet to dig out a set of civil service exams and put them in front of Ji Nan. "I read the explanation of this question and I don't understand it. How about you use your smart brain to help me explain it."
It was a very simple logical reasoning question. Ji Nan gave the correct answer after just one glance.
"Why don't you take the exam again next year." He said so, but still patiently explained it to her. Anyway, he had to wait for Zhong Jiajing to get off work.
Xiaobai just pointed at the question randomly. Who knew he was unlucky enough to get such a simple one.
Her face flushed, but the task had to be continued. She gritted her teeth and found a few more really difficult problems, delaying them until six o'clock before she could breathe a sigh of relief.
Ji Nan closed the book and said expressionlessly, "Go back. I'm afraid you've overused what little brain you have left today."
Xiaobai has made up his mind. Tonight he will start his Weibo account with 10,000 followers, which he hasn't used in years, and write a bloody and sad story about Ji Nan, a dog who licks his wife.
When Zhong Jiajing arrived at the store on time, she was holding several paper bags in her hands.
"I thought you wouldn't come?" she said to Ji Nan.
Ji Nan snorted coldly, "I'm afraid that you'll scatter the ashes of my shop in such a hurry."
So what happened to all the sacrifices I'd just made? What happened to the vows we'd made to each other? So it was all fake, right?
Seeing Xiaobai looking at her resentfully, Zhong Jiajing walked over and patted her shoulder. "Don't be like this. Your information was a big help, because he didn't even tell me he was coming. Without you, I would have definitely gone home directly."
Ji Nan had no intention of letting her off easily. "I'm so sorry, but my eyesight is still working, not to mention I can tell the difference between male and female."
He pointed at the huge hamburger backpack Zhong Jiajing was carrying and continued, "You're probably the only one around here who looks like an elementary school student. I'll definitely call you if I see you, don't worry."
Xiaobai was heartbroken when she heard this. She accused her, "You really are a cold-blooded and emotionless person!"
When Zhong Jiajing heard Xiaobai shouting this famous line in the voice of Lazy Sheep, she really couldn't help laughing.
Xiaobai was completely defeated, and she decided to rewrite the double-licking dog-blooded article at night.
Ji Nan didn't have the patience to listen to their charades. He stuffed a coin into each of their hands and said, "Alright, let's stop here for today."
He turned to look at Zhong Jiajing, "Your child is still crying for food, tell me what's going on."
Xiaobai's originally resentful eyes suddenly widened when he heard the explosive news. What child?
Zhong Jiajing didn't pay attention to her expression. She just took out the small clothes from the bag and said, "I went to the mall a few days ago and bought clothes for them. I thought if you were here, I would take them back."
She then took out a men's shirt and said, "And what you said last time reminded me. I actually forgot about you, my hard-working shit-shoveling owner. I deserve to die."
She had secretly measured the sizes of cats and dogs before, and as for the size of the man in front of her, she just asked for it from a boy of similar build on the street.
Ji Nan paused and said, "Your salary..."
Zhong Jiajing interrupted him, "Sis, now that I'm a regular employee, it's okay to be a little cool every now and then."
"Oh, I thought you were being too attentive for no reason?" Ji Nan said thoughtfully.
Zhong Jiajing smiled shyly, "Hehe, I really can't hide anything from you."
"Go ahead." Ji Nan leaned back in his chair and looked at her.
"Well, I want to walk the dog tomorrow." Zhong Jiajing blinked.
Ji Nan knew this was going to happen, so he said, "Okay, which one?"
Zhong Jiajing clasped her hands together in prayer, "Adults have greedy hearts."
Xiaobai already understood the conversation just now, but it was about the pet again, which made her happy for nothing.
In the end, she had to take action. Xiaobai struck while the iron was hot, "She meant, both the man and the dog."
