Chapter 45: Foreign Objects
◎Just go ahead and do it.◎
The dining place is in the city center, not far from Ji Nan's home, about a twenty-minute walk away.
Zhong Jiajing watched Xiaobai and Yu Qiuya enter the subway station together before slowly walking back along the road.
It was almost 8:30 in the evening, not very late, but perhaps because it was too cold, there were only a few people on the street.
We passed by a convenience store on the way. There was only one clerk standing behind the cash register fiddling with the sparse oden in the pot. The scene was a bit deserted.
Zhong Jiajing stared at the shadow under her feet for a while, and when she looked up again, her feet had uncontrollably stepped into the small door of the convenience store.
The electronic greeting and the clerk's welcome sounded at the same time, and Zhong Jiajing raised the corners of her mouth and smiled slightly in response.
She walked into the innermost shelf and headed towards the cashier.
I feel a little annoyed. I don't understand why convenience stores always like to put daily necessities next to the cash register. This completely disregards the life and death of people with social anxiety. It is really a bad layout.
The clerk was a young girl who looked a little shy. She was probably a part-time student from a nearby university.
Occasionally, when she raised her head, she would always meet Zhong Jiajing's guilty and conflicted eyes.
Zhong Jiajing was a bit shy after all. After hesitating for a long time, she just picked up a box of vegetable juice from the shelf and went to the front desk to pay.
When the little girl saw her coming, she suddenly turned around and walked to the shelf on the other side, her ears flushed red.
Zhong Jiajing heard her speak in a very low voice, "The self-service checkout machine by the door can also be used."
I could only hear her voice but not see her. The little girl's small figure was tightly blocked behind the shelf.
Zhong Jiajing's face suddenly turned red. She grabbed a box of the most expensive thing from the shelf next to the cash register and rushed to the door to check out.
She didn't even have the courage to look at it carefully, and she didn't understand it at all. She just thought that it must be expensive for a reason, and the probability of making a mistake must be lower.
After paying the bill, she didn't take the bag, but just casually put the small box deep in her coat pocket and walked out in the cold wind.
When I got to the downstairs of the apartment, I suddenly started to feel scared again.
Zhong Jiajing walked around half of the neighborhood three times, still feeling restless. An old man exercising nearby hesitated for a moment before calling out to her, "Stop walking around, girl! If you keep turning, I'll start to think I've hit a wall."
Zhong Jiajing stood there in a daze. She made up an excuse to explain her strange behavior which was hard to explain.
"Don't be afraid, uncle. I just ate too much and am trying to digest it."
Hearing that she could respond normally, the old man finally felt relieved.
"That's no big deal. Just hit your head against a tree with me and everything will be fine." The old man turned around to demonstrate, hitting his back against the big tree beside him a few times.
Sparse leaves fell, carrying with them a little newly gathered dew.
There were only a few leaves left, and this ordeal had taken away half of their life.
Under the old man's expectant gaze, Zhong Jiajing gritted her teeth and leaned against the tree.
"Yeah! Try harder." The old man encouraged.
Zhong Jiajing nodded firmly, then rushed forward and slammed back several times with a bang.
Don't say it, this person is born with a bad back. When his back really hurts, his heart feels inexplicably relieved.
The old man smiled and said, "How is it? Do you feel particularly excited?"
"It's okay, but..." Zhong Jiajing paused for a moment and said, "Do you have a herniated disc?"
This tree must have been hit many times, it has quite a bumpy texture.
After the pressure was released, Zhong Jiajing finally decided to walk home.
She originally wanted to take the stairs to vent her anger, but when she reached the sixth floor, she silently pressed the elevator button.
Being able to bend and stretch is a good quality of a gentleman, and she just followed it.
When I got home, Ji Nan hadn't returned yet. I guessed it was another once-in-a-century overtime session.
Without competition, she finally became the puppies' favorite, and they all jumped around her.
Of course, Dongdong, who is lazy, would not waste his energy on her. Giving her a look is already the greatest gift to the cat master.
Zhong Jiajing didn't waste any time. She just stroked the dog's hair a few times and lifted the cat up high before going into the bathroom.
This time the shower took longer than usual. Zhong Jiajing made sure that she smelled fragrant all over before she slowly moved out of the bathroom.
It was already past half past ten, and Ji Nan still hadn't returned.
Zhong Jiajing picked up her phone to call and ask for details, only to find that the other party had made two calls first. When she didn't answer the call while taking a shower, he sent a text message.
[I'm a little busy today, I'll be back around 11 o'clock.]
Although it is a love report, it is still concise and without any feelings.
Zhong Jiajing raised her hand and sent a salute emoticon in return, then squatted on the floor and thought hard.
The closer it got to eleven o'clock, the more fuzzy her clear mind became, and she felt a complex emotion of both anticipation and fear.
"Let's have some wine," she said to herself.
This seems like something a drunkard trying to escape reality would do, but Zhong Jiajing really has no other choice. After all, this is the best way for her to boost her courage.
As usual, he mixed red, white and beer together and drank them all in one gulp. The complex taste of spiciness, sweetness and the aroma of wheat swirled in his throat, and when it fell into his stomach, it suddenly started to catch fire and burned a little.
She has always been able to drink a lot, so she was worried that the effect might not be good, so she simply drank another half glass to prevent any accidents.
When Ji Nan came back, he saw her wearing a suspender nightgown, squatting on the floor with her bare white and tender feet, poking the sleepy dog.
Although the temperature in the south is not too low in winter, there are always hundreds of ways to make people tremble and become weak in the cold.
Even if the air conditioner is on the highest setting in the house, people still have to wear three layers of clothes inside and outside to show respect for winter.
But Zhong Jiajing was too abnormal. She kept saying she was afraid of the cold, but it seemed like she was fighting in the snow shirtless.
Ji Nan frowned, and without even taking off his coat, he carried the person by the waist to the sofa.
"Aren't you cold?" In fact, he knew the situation after asking.
As someone who easily gets drunk, Zhong Jiajing drank again tonight. Her exposed skin was red and hot, and it would not be an exaggeration to describe it as crayfish just out of the pot.
Ji Nan wrapped her whole body and feet in his arms with his coat, then lowered his head to her neck and sniffed deeply, saying, "You must have drunk a lot today."
Zhong Jiajing's mind was still clear, but her actions were indeed much bolder.
She raised her hand and hooked it around his neck, rubbing it against the corner of his mouth through the mask. "I drank two large cups, and I stole your wine."
A strong smell of alcohol came through the mask, but Ji Nan didn't find it unpleasant.
He touched her hot head and asked, "Oh, so today is also a day for hugs and kisses?"
Zhong Jiajing nodded, "Yes, but you have to take a shower first."
Even when drunk, you must stick to your principles.
Ji Nan felt that she was a little different today, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He just suspected that it was some new way of getting drunk, so he didn't take it seriously.
He carried the person back and tucked her into the quilt, tricking her into going to sleep before turning around and going back to his room to wash up.
But when he walked out of the bathroom, the girl who was supposed to be sleeping in the next room appeared in his bed, drowsy.
Zhong Jiajing's eyes were also red, which made her look even more cute.
She propped her chin up with one hand and looked at him dazedly, "Why do you look like you're about to say something but can't?"
Ji Nan covered his mouth and nose, "Even if you are drunk, you still have to follow the rules. Being drunk is not a shield for you to break the rules."
He was referring to the requirement to wear a mask upon entry posted at the door.
Zhong Jiajing didn't care. She tilted her head and asked curiously, "How can you kiss when you're wearing a mask?"
"I'm sick." Ji Nan was quite helpless.
She climbed out of bed and jumped on him, "I think you're ready."
"First, you're fever-free. Second, the fact you can smell alcohol proves your stuffy nose is gone. As for the cough, it won't go away anytime soon, so we can ignore it for now."
Her analysis was very logical and logical, and it was definitely not the kind of brain an alcoholic would have.
For fear that she would fall, Ji Nan had no choice but to hold her hips.
He leaned in close and pecked her lips a few times, his attitude somewhat perfunctory. "Is this all right for today?"
Of course it wasn't good. Zhong Jiajing held his head and bit it fiercely.
Their balance was unstable and they both fell into the soft bed.
Ji Nan was in deep trouble and his mind was a little confused. He thought it would be better to just continue like this.
He turned over and put some weight on Zhong Jiajing.
Lips and teeth entangled, bite marks spread to ears, nose, neck, collarbone...
Zhong Jiajing was breathing too heavily and was becoming increasingly breathless.
Ji Nan raised his body and stared at her with misty eyes, his voice intermittent and hoarse.
"No more, go back to sleep."
Zhong Jiajing's lips glowed with a moisture that even lip gloss couldn't bring out. She was a little dazed and asked without even thinking, "Why? Can't you do it?"
Ji Nan lay on his side, raised his hands to cover his eyes, and said helplessly, "I can't drink anymore."
"There will be a baby..." he seemed to be muttering to himself.
Zhong Jiajing suddenly sat up, took out a small box from somewhere and threw it at him.
The cold touch was out of tune with the scorching heat in the room; it must be a foreign object.
Ji Nan raised his hand and touched it. In the dim light, he could see the words on it clearly: a famous brand of contraceptive products.
His expression was tense, probably because he was very surprised.
Zhong Jiajing was ready to go all out. She closed her eyes and said loudly, "I'm ready!"
In fact, Ji Nan still couldn't tell whether Zhong Jiajing was really drunk or not. Her mind was still very clear, but her behavior was surprisingly bold. She was no longer a cowardly turtle.
He didn't understand why she suddenly made this decision. Maybe it was because the night in Zhenjiang was interrupted, and she was making up for it?
Ji Nan had no way of knowing and could only rely on guesswork.
Zhong Jiajing's tightly closed eyelids were still trembling. Of course, a young girl would be afraid of the unknown.
Is it appropriate to do this while she's drunk? Will she regret it when she sobers up? Ji Nan was a little worried.
My body is actually clamoring very loudly, but it seems that I can't be too impatient about some things.
He endured the pain and threw the box into the bottom drawer.
Zhong Jiajing opened her eyes wide and asked, "What are you doing?"
Ji Nan pretended to lean over and kiss her, his voice a little cold, "You bought a size too small, it won't work for you, just go for it."
Zhong Jiajing didn't notice the trembling in his voice. She pushed him away with a terrified expression.
"Is this thing divided into big and small?"
"Forget it, forget it. There's no rush. We can fight another day."
She almost crawled out of this dangerous place.
Having achieved his goal, Ji Nan was at a loss whether to laugh or cry. He lay on the slightly cool floor for a long time before he came back to his senses.
He opened the drawer again, took out a box the size of his palm and looked at it for a long time. In fact, the size he picked up randomly was also suitable.
He sighed helplessly, "Idiot."
