Chapter 7: The Truth Exposed
◎We should not have any emotions that go against moral ethics.◎
Thief?
Standing not far away was clearly a refined man in a gray apron. Zhong Jiajing looked at the familiar handsome profile and swallowed hard, lowering her voice and whispering, "Xiaobai, don't get excited. I think you might have misunderstood."
However, comrades who are angry cannot hear these things. Sudden anger will swallow up a person's timidity for no reason and maximize the release of the little courage in daily life.
Seeing Xiaobai Bingbingcha taking off her apron and walking angrily towards Ji Nan, Zhong Jiajing stood up and chased after him without thinking, but unexpectedly her knee made close contact with the corner of the table, which hurt so much that she grimaced. However, she only recovered for two seconds and then crawled to catch up.
When she arrived, Xiaobai was throwing a crumpled apron onto the table in front of Ji Nan.
"I quit!" The usually gentle little girl suddenly shouted.
Ji Nan's brows knitted together, thinking that a mean customer was harassing the staff. He asked in a serious tone, "What happened?"
Without waiting for the little girl to answer, Zhong Jiajing quickly picked up the apron and gestured to the girl, "You have to do it."
Seeing the sudden appearance of an acquaintance, Ji Nan subconsciously cast his gaze upon Zhong Jiajing. However, this pure gaze took on a completely different meaning in the eyes of the righteous girl. Xiaobai Bingbingcha squeezed her thin body between the two of them, giving her a warning with what she considered a very ruthless look.
"Even if I starve to death or jump off here, I would rather not work for a thief."
Ji Nan was confused, "Thief?"
"Yes, yes, thief," Zhong Jiajing quickly pulled Xiaobai behind her, then gave Ji Nan a flattering smile, "Really? You stole my heart."
The young girls around burst into laughter, and several bold ones joined in the fun.
"That's right, you stole my heart too."
"And mine."
"Me too, me too."
…
Ji Nan's cold white skin darkened visibly, and he spoke through gritted teeth, "Zhong Jiajing, isn't it enough that you've seduced my dog?"
You know, his son Duoduo will cry loudly at home if he doesn’t take a walk twice a day. Isn’t this all Miss Zhong’s fault?
Zhong Jiajing was in tears. In front of her was a wealthy sponsor whom she needed to rely on, and behind her was a righteous girl who was willing to give up her job for her. She definitely didn't want to give up on either of them.
She raised her hands in front of the two of them and promised, "It's a misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding. Don't worry, I will definitely explain it clearly later."
As she spoke, she put an apron on Xiaobai and said, "There are so many customers waiting. You guys go ahead and do your work. I'll come find you after get off work."
Ji Nan's expression softened a lot, "Well, let's get to work first."
The fuel that had started the fire had long since burned out, and with the two men looking so familiar with each other, Xiaobai Bingbingcha realized that she had probably made a mistake. With the fire out, she really wanted to take a train back to her hometown overnight to avoid the limelight.
Unfortunately, she was a poor office worker. The generous salary was enough to cover up her overflowing shame. She took the ladder handed to her by her boss and quickly climbed down. "Yeah, I'll go and serve the next table quickly."
Ji Nan was packing with his head lowered. The back of his neck seemed rounded and clean because of the lowered neck.
He didn't seem to care about her anymore, so Zhong Jiajing had no choice but to ask, "Brother? Brother Ji? Brother Nan? Duoduo's father?"
Zhong Jiajing changed several names in a row, and Ji Nan finally gave her a look.
"I get off work at half past ten." He replied briefly.
Perhaps because she had been pestering him for so long, Ji Nan quickly understood what she wanted to say.
Zhong Jiajing got the answer, smiled and praised him for being reasonable, then ran out.
It was not even nine o'clock yet, and making her wait in the store for nearly two hours would be a waste of her youth. Without thinking, Zhong Jiajing dragged her roommate to go for a stroll in the nearby shopping mall.
The mall closes at ten o'clock, and this thing works better than an alarm clock.
When Zhong Jiajing arrived, the store had already cleared out of customers, with only a few young shop assistants cleaning.
"Go! Since you've already confessed your feelings, why not just win your idol over directly?" The roommate next to me gave a bad idea.
Zhong Jiajing didn't want to explain, so she pushed the door open and walked in.
"Sorry, miss, we are closed." One of the shop assistants reminded embarrassedly.
Before she could even explain, a man in black strode up to her and said, "I'm here to see you. Once you're done packing, you can leave. Be careful on the road."
The man's voice was a little cold, and he was filled with the faint aroma of bitter cold coffee, which seemed to also have the taste of matcha from her cup of coffee that night.
"Go sit over there." Ignoring the clerk's curiosity, Ji Nan led her to the previous seat.
The three of them sat together in a triangle, with Xiaobai Bingbingcha hanging his head and snapping his fingers awkwardly.
"I thought your boss stole your ID card, so I wanted to help him." She hesitated for a moment before saying, "I didn't realize you were a couple."
Zhong Jiajing almost choked on the water she had just been fed. Ji Nan expressionlessly pulled out two pieces of paper and handed them to her, saying to Xiaobai, "Your intention is good, but don't leave yet."
"Also, this isn't a suggestion, but you'd better take back your last sentence."
What had she just said? Xiaobai Bingbingcha was confused and impressed. Didn't her boss usually act like a pure bachelor? Was she wrong for not noticing he was in a relationship?
The two idiots were not on the same page, so Zhong Jiajing had to show up quickly to get the train back on track.
She spent two minutes explaining the whole story, and then said helplessly: "In short, I forgot to ask Ji Nan to return my ID card."
The young girl in front of him was stunned where she stood. She looked like a snake that had its skin peeled off. It was really shameful.
Zhong Jiajing pushed a box of freshly bought osmanthus cake towards her and said, "Thank you so much for doing this for me. I'm really touched!"
Ji Nan also spoke, "Okay, now that you've explained everything, go home quickly. The time you lost will be counted as overtime, and your travel expenses will be reimbursed. Be careful on the road."
Xiaobai Bingbingcha apologized and thanked, then ran away with a blushing face.
Zhong Jiajing looked at her roommates flirting with each other outside and asked tentatively, "So, I'm leaving too?"
"Wait a minute," Ji Nan looked straight at her, "Don't talk nonsense outside."
"Which sentence?" Zhong Jiajing was confused.
Ji Nan didn't answer directly, but simply said, "We shouldn't have any emotions that go against moral ethics."
It turns out she was referring to her previous "true confession".
Just because you call me "sugar daddy" you really think of yourself as your daddy?
Zhong Jiajing: "Haha, thank you, I have my own father."
"Uncle-nephew relationships are also not allowed." Ji Nan added sarcastically.
This was an injustice to her for applying for his admission to the school in the name of his uncle.
Sure enough, no matter how good-looking a man is, he can't prevent the evil in his stomach.
"..." Zhong Jiajing was silent for a long time, determined not to argue with him. She just smiled politely, "Haha, you are absolutely right."
Ji Nan ignored her sarcasm and asked, "It's almost curfew time. Should I take you home? Or should I reimburse you for the taxi fare?"
He bears at least half the responsibility for this matter. If he had remembered to return the ID card intact, this misunderstanding would not have happened.
"Don't bother you." Zhong Jiajing shook her head and blinked. "This is indeed my fault. I won't do it again next time. Please don't deprive me of my right to walk the dog!"
Ji Nan nodded and transferred 200 yuan to her WeChat. "Let's put things in order. Go back early."
Zhong Jiajing was not too discouraged when she didn't get the response she wanted. After all, the other person's personality was there.
She didn't even click to accept the red envelope. Instead, she pointed at her roommate outside and said with a chuckle, "I'm planning a romantic city walk with my dear roommate, so the car fare won't be needed. It will be automatically refunded after 24 hours."
The three roommates who were "peeping" outside were caught by Ji Nan and felt no shame at all. Instead, they jumped and waved at him very actively.
Ji Nan laughed a little, "Street urchin."
"Hey! How can you describe us like that?" Zhong Jiajing complained. "Don't you know? I'm going to be joining the company next Monday as a low-level office worker kept by my boss. I don't have much free time left, and you don't even allow me to cherish it!"
Ji Nan didn't expect that he would see this poor office worker again until a full half month later.
Watching Zhong Jiajing, who looked like a walking corpse, walking out of the company opposite with half-closed eyes, Ji Nan saw under the street light that the clock on the wall of the dark store was pointing to ten forty-three.
It was Friday, and Ji Nan was working the night shift again, which was a rare occasion.
Ji Nan locked the door and called her, "Zhong Jiajing."
Zhong Jiajing suddenly opened her eyes and looked at him, "Oh, are you working overtime today too?"
Her eyesight was a little dazed, and Ji Nan asked, "Have you been exposed by the ruthless capitalists?"
"A week! I've been working overtime for a whole week!" Zhong Jiajing roared weakly, holding up her index finger. "I finally understand why programmers are called programmers. Isn't that just treating us like animals?"
She clearly didn't drink any alcohol but looked like she was drunk. Ji Nan felt helpless looking at Zhong Jiajing who was crying and sobbing.
"Have you taken a taxi?" He waited until she calmed down before asking.
Zhong Jiajing suddenly remembered something when he reminded her. She picked up her phone and saw that the taxi app was still in line, so she howled even louder.
This is a business district, and there happens to be a large event going on nearby, so the customer flow tonight is particularly large. Otherwise, the slacking player Ji Nan wouldn't have come out to work for the first time.
“…”
My goodness, this girl is harder to coax than his niece. Ji Nan’s scalp is trembling.
"Stop yelling! If you yell like that, the boss upstairs might hear you clearly. You'll be fired tomorrow for stepping through the company door with your left foot first."
The best advice is not to cry, I am with you, but to tell a corporate slave that you will be miserably unemployed because of crying.
Zhong Jiajing's emotions were so controlled that Ji Nan nodded with satisfaction, "Okay, come back with me to get the car, and I'll take you home."
"That's so embarrassing." Zhong Jiajing hesitated.
Ji Nan scoffed, "Excuse me? Why didn't you tell me when you kept pestering me to walk the dog?"
It made sense, and Zhong Jiajing accepted it calmly.
Ji Nan's home is only a ten-minute walk from the coffee shop, so he never drives to work, and Zhong Jiajing has no choice but to walk back with him.
Ji Nan studied at a university abroad, and he rarely went to school unless there was a special need. So even though he had been in Shanghai for six years, he was still not familiar with the roads leading to the university town.
Zhong Jiajing watched him adjust the navigation to the University of Transportation and quickly raised her hand to stop him.
Ji Nan was puzzled, "What's wrong?"
She said, "Brother, the school isn't so kind as to let me graduate and live in a mansion for a small price."
The house that Zhong Jiajing rented was in a new residential complex half an hour's drive from Ji Nan's home. Most of the houses were small one-bedroom apartments, very suitable for people who wanted to live alone.
There are still a lot of young people coming in and out at night. Most of them are harmless office workers who take advantage of the weekend to go out and play, and just happen to be rushing back to catch the last subway.
Zhong Jiajing stood outside the car and talked to him.
"It's almost twelve o'clock when you get back, right? I'm really sorry to bother you today. I will repay your kindness very quickly!"
It was indeed very quick, and Ji Nan received the reward in the afternoon of the next day.
He was still a little groggy from having his nap interrupted. "Why are you here?"
Zhong Jiajing raised the bags in her hands to show him, "Of course I'm here to fulfill my promise!"
She prepared food, drink and entertainment for everyone, whether it was people or dogs.
Ji Nan leaned against the door and yawned. Zhong Jiajing said embarrassedly, "Did I disturb you? But I asked you this morning if I could come to see you in the afternoon, and didn't you say it was all right?"
"How come I don't know about this?" Ji Nan had no memory of this at all.
Zhong Jiajing held up the chat history on her phone and showed it to him. "Look, you replied to my dx. Doesn't that mean everything is fine?"
Obviously, this was garbled code sent by his own unfilial son.
The girl in front of me had sweat on her forehead, and her expression was innocent and expectant.
Ji Nan felt a little soft-hearted, so he nodded helplessly, "Yeah, it's what you think."
Zhong Jiajing narrowed her eyes and smiled, "I think I'm here at the wrong time. Why don't you let me take Duoduo out for a walk?"
The truth is revealed!
The author has something to say:
It's strange. Ever since I became a wage earner, I've been short of inspiration. I can never come up with anything, whether it's pre-collected or serialized.
I'm not actively writing. I want to say I'm guilty, but in the end I decided to put the blame on my work and my boss. Maybe that's okay? φ(゜▽゜*)
