Do you smoke?
After coming out of the examination room after taking the exam in the morning, Song Shuyang immediately sent a message to Peng Fan to ask him to have lunch, ostensibly to thank him for tutoring him.
He had to make it clear to Peng Fan that if he really wanted to take him to Beijing with that purpose, he would rather give up this internship opportunity. Trust is a two-way thing. If he made Jin Zhou trust him, then he had to live up to Jin Zhou's trust.
With the experience of rejecting his senior last time, he felt more confident this time and had already thought about what he would say later.
Unexpectedly, Peng Fan did not play by the rules at all.
He had originally planned to open with, "We might need to talk," but as soon as Peng Fan sat down, he asked him, "How did you do on the exam? Do you think you can get a scholarship?"
The scene was as serious as a large corporate recruitment site.
Song Shuyang could only answer his question first: "It's okay. I can basically do all the questions and fill up the test paper."
"Keep up the good work. By the way, there's something I need to hand over to you."
And then for the next half hour, they really just talked about business.
Song Shuyang was unable to utter a word as his throat was stuck. He felt extremely uncomfortable. He usually didn't think Peng Fan was a talkative person, so why was he talking so nonstop today?
In the end, Song Shuyang answered perfunctorily. Peng Fan saw that he was absent-minded and finally couldn't help laughing.
"I won't say anything more. Just ask whatever you want to ask."
Song Shuyang took a big gulp of the drink to ease his tension, and then asked formally, "Brother Fan, I've always wanted to ask you, do you have that kind of feeling for me?"
Peng Fan regained his usual serious expression. "Xiao Song, answer me a question first. For you, what's more important, your own development or your lover's feelings?"
“Do these two points conflict?”
"What if I tell you that's a conflict?" Peng Fan's eyes behind his glasses were as calm as water. "Do you remember the last time I told you about the person I dated during college?"
He continued, "You guessed it right, it was my girlfriend. I was just trying to scare you. I broke up with her because we both received offers from big companies, but the two companies were far apart. We didn't want to be in a long-distance relationship, and we didn't want to give up our future for each other, so we broke up."
"So... you don't have that kind of feelings for me?"
Peng Fan lowered his eyes and said, "I haven't been in a relationship yet because I can't forget her."
Knowing the truth, Song Shuyang finally breathed a sigh of relief, but at the same time felt sorry for him, "Then is she married? Why didn't you go find her later?"
"Didn't I tell you that the city she went to back then was Jing City?"
Song Shuyang was shocked.
He didn't expect that Peng Fan was also a love-brained person!
"So you're telling me this because..."
"I want to tell you that the reason I can go to her city now is because I no longer need to let the job choose me. Instead, I choose the job. The person who truly loves you will always be there waiting for you."
Song Shuyang lowered his eyes and thought for a long time, then nodded, "I understand."
"I'm leaving next week. Have you thought about it?"
The waiter came to serve the food, interrupting their conversation and giving Song Shuyang some time to think.
He whispered to Peng Fan, "What if I say I want to take Jin Zhou with me?"
"I have no objection, but you have to think carefully about whether you want to use this opportunity to escape his control."
Song Shuyang bit his lower lip tightly, all kinds of thoughts flying through his mind.
He had never thought about this kind of problem. He always felt that it was enough to let Jin Zhou make all the decisions for him.
He has been following Jin Zhou around for the past six months. If Peng Fan hadn't tutored him, he wouldn't have been able to catch up with his studies.
He also wanted to know the extent of his dependence on Jin Zhou, so he raised his head and told Peng Fan: "I will go with you alone."
The decision was made quickly, but he was troubled by how to tell Jin Zhou.
He was still frightened by the last quarrel they had over this matter, and now that the old matter was being brought up again, he was afraid that Jin Zhou would really get angry.
He was afraid that Jin Zhou would do something extreme, so he came up with an idea.
"Let's go home and stay for a few days. Otherwise, my mom won't be happy if she doesn't see me for the whole winter vacation."
Jin Zhou agreed to everything he said, and the two of them bought tickets to return to Jiang City the next day.
After not seeing each other for several months, Song Nian was overjoyed and specially prepared a large table of their favorite dishes. Seeing his mother, Song Shuyang was too guilty to dare to raise his head, and frantically brainwashed himself, saying that he and Jin Zhou were fine, he and Jin Zhou were fine...
Fortunately, Song Nian still had to go to work, so Song Shuyang waited until she left before sneaking into Jin Zhou's room. He was half lying on the bed playing a music game. This familiar scene and unfamiliar relationship made him feel ashamed again.
Jin Zhou stopped what he was doing and patted the bed, "Come and sleep with your brother for a while."
"Hiss, stop calling me brother," Song Shuyang walked over with his head down, "This is so weird, why are we in a relationship?"
Jin Zhou crossed his arms and said coldly, "You're denying your mistakes as soon as you get back, right? You scumbag."
"No, don't you think it's weird?"
Song Shuyang couldn't explain the feeling. It was natural for him to date Jin Zhou at school. At best, it was just an acquaintance who committed the crime. But why did he feel so guilty when he came back?
Jin Zhou didn't give him the chance to get stuck in a rut. He got out of bed, picked him up and threw him onto the bed, then covered him with his warm body.
"No... please don't, let me get used to it... mmm..."
His lips were held and his tongue was entangled.
Jin Zhou kissed him forcefully. When his eyes were watery and his legs and feet were weak, he raised his head and asked him, "Do you still feel weird?"
Song Shuyang was so ashamed that he almost cried. He had slept on this bed countless times, but he never thought that one day he would lie on it and be kissed by Jin Zhou.
Jin Zhou gently stroked his forehead, "Don't think too much, Zaizi. We can just get along normally these few days like before. Aunt Song won't notice."
"Don't kiss me yet, let me take it easy."
Song Shuyang slowly sat up. When he thought about how he had just kissed Jin Zhou on this bed, his face turned pale and then red.
"And don't you think it's more exciting to secretly date under your mother's nose?" Jin Zhou hugged him from behind, his lips pressed against his neck, his tone as gentle as a bewitching vixen, "You're so bad, Zizi. How come you're dating your brother after just one semester?"
Song Shuyang was already feeling ashamed, and after being reminded by him, he couldn't stand it anymore. His voice started to tear up, "Stop talking, Jin Zhou. Are you sick?"
"I'm helping you desensitize yourself," Jin Zhou put his hand into his pants, "Do you want to get a permanent cure?"
Song Shuyang found that Jin Zhou's extreme therapy was really useful. After a mess in bed, he was not so sensitive to kissing anymore. The lingering memories directly overwrote all the previous memory archives.
He put on Jin Zhou's sweater and looked at the small box with bare legs that he had found from under the bed. Inside was the suicide note written by Jin Zhou when he was fifteen years old. Song Shuyang did not open it and chose to let it remain in the dust.
Jin Zhou took out two other things, a plastic ring and a jade dragon pendant.
He hugged Song Shuyang and whispered, "It's all your fault. Who told you to propose to me the first time we met?"
"Get lost! If you mention that again, I'll get angry with you." Even if he was with Jin Zhou, this was still his dark history. He turned around and bit Jin Zhou's shoulder. "You're not going to laugh at me about this when you're old, are you?"
Jin Zhou raised his eyebrows and said, "This is my signature program."
"Aren't you cold without clothes?"
"It's okay." He picked up the pendant, warmed it in his palm, and put it around Song Shuyang's neck. "Wear it, son."
Song Shuyang picked it up and looked at it. Even though he didn't know much about jade, he knew that this pendant was worth a lot of money. It was engraved with Jin Zhou's zodiac sign, which must be of great significance to him.
"I remember your mother left this for you? So you just gave it to me like this?"
Jin Zhou lowered his eyes and stared at the jade on his collarbone. His fair skin tone was very suitable for the jade. It was as if the pendant existed for him.
"This is what my mother left for your sister-in-law."
"You have..." Song Shuyang almost started to curse, but suddenly realized what was going on and laughed.
He smiled foolishly, "Does your mother know that her daughter-in-law is a man?"
"Let her know during the Qingming Festival."
Jin Zhou lifted the quilt and wrapped the two of them in the bed again. Song Shuyang shivered from the coldness of the jade and begged for mercy in a hoarse voice.
The temperature outside was several degrees below zero, but the room was scorching warm.
After staying at home for a few days, they did some shameful things secretly during the day. When Song Nian came back at night, they instantly switched to brotherly and respectful mode. Song Nian couldn't help but sigh: "Yangyang has really grown up and knows how to respect his brother."
Jin Zhou wanted to laugh when he heard this, and Song Shuyang lowered his head with his face flushed.
However, he gradually tasted some of the fun in this way of getting along, which was much more exciting than talking in school.
Life was going smoothly, and Song Shuyang felt that if he proposed that he wanted to go for an internship alone, Jin Zhou would be more receptive.
After Song Nian went to work, Song Shuyang sneaked into Jin Zhou's room again, snuggled into his quilt, hugged him and kept shouting: "Brother~ my good brother~"
Usually at times like this he would torture people. Jin Zhou said in a calm tone, "Tell me, what are you going to do this time?"
"It's just... didn't I say last time that I would take you to an internship? I thought about it and the round-trip airfare and hotel accommodation are not cheap. Brother Fan arranged a company dormitory for me, so I may not be able to take you with me."
After he said this, he was about to act coquettishly again, but he felt Jin Zhou's stiffness.
Jin Zhou remained silent, and he felt guilty, so he crawled out from under the quilt and secretly observed Jin Zhou's expression.
He thought that since he had been cooperating with Jin Zhou so well recently, it would be easy to make some requests.
Jin Zhou looked at him calmly, and Song Shuyang knew that this was a sign of his anger.
"Just let me go by myself, brother, please, I really want to go out and gain some experience on my own." He pleaded in a low voice.
Jin Zhou didn't say a word from beginning to end. He loosened his arms, got off the bed and walked out of the room.
Song Shuyang panicked.
Even if he wanted to quarrel with him or even beat him up, what he feared most was that Jin Zhou would remain silent.
He got out of bed and chased after him, looking around downstairs, and finally found him in the bathroom.
The door was locked, and Song Shuyang couldn't push it open. He slammed the frosted glass and said, "Can you please stop scaring me? Even if you're angry, at least say something."
The more Jin Zhou refused to open the door, the more anxious he became. "Jin Zhou, I assure you that Brother Fan has absolutely no feelings for me. He went there to pursue his ex-girlfriend. I promise you that I will report to you three times a day after I go there and will definitely not chat up strangers. I will be back in a month."
He was extremely anxious. At the critical moment, he remembered that there was a spare key to the toilet in Song Nian's room. He hurried to get the key and opened the door. He was shocked by the scene in front of him and his pupils shrank suddenly.
The room was filled with smoke, which made Song Shuyang cough. Jin Zhou stood behind the smoke, with the flickering cigarette between his fingertips, making it impossible to see the expression on his face.
He had never felt Jin Zhou so strange.
"You...you smoke?"
