Fate has not arrived yet
Jin Jiaan recovered well and was transferred to the general ward three days later.
Jin Zhou took good care of Song Nian in the hospital for a week. Song Nian went home in the early morning to rest for more than five hours, and came back with two thermos buckets before six o'clock.
Jin Zhou sat down to eat the pork rib soup she had cooked and asked, "Where's Zai Zai?"
"You know this damn kid is making a fuss at home, saying he's too embarrassed to see Uncle Jin."
Jin Zhou smiled gently, "You're too thin-skinned."
Song Nian opened another thermos. The soup was still boiling hot and not suitable for the patient to drink, so he put it aside.
"Actually, Xiaozhou, I think the same as him. Your father and I don't have to be together. We're just two people who have been lonely for too long and want to find a companion for the rest of our lives. If we get married, you and Yangyang will really become brothers. Even if outsiders don't say anything, I can't get over it in my heart."
Jin Zhou picked out the bone residue from the soup without saying anything.
Song Nian patted him on the shoulder and said, "Kid, you have so many things hidden in your heart that you never say them out loud. If you had told me earlier that you liked Yangyang, I wouldn't have mentioned this to Old Jin last July. Sigh..."
"I want you to get married," Jin Zhou rarely revealed his true feelings, "I have selfish motives and want to bring you together."
"Small boat..."
Song Nian didn't expect that Jin Zhou was such a crazy person.
He always plays the role of a mature and sensible older brother, silently protecting the family. He can even remain calm when Song Shuyang brings his ambiguous object home.
But deep down in his heart, he longed to become a true family with Song Shuyang and Song Nian.
"It's still not my destiny." Song Nian said.
Song Nian asked Jin Zhou to go home and have a good rest, but he refused and just took the clean clothes she gave him and went to the bathroom to wash up.
She and Jin Jiaan were the only ones left in the ward. The man on the bed had already woken up. Song Nian brought the thermos bucket to him and helped pull out the small table. "Eat something. It's not hot anymore."
Jin Jiaan picked up the spoon and ate without saying a word.
Song Nian looked at the man who had given her warmth in the most difficult times.
At that time, she was desperate and posted the rental information with the agency. The house was actually very old, and the two rooms on the second floor were small and dark. She didn't expect to rent it out for a high price.
She was still a little scared when Jin Jia'an came to find her. It was a big risk for a woman with a child to live with a widowed single man, but Jin Jia'an gave her a lot of money and told her that she just needed to help take care of his child and he would not stay here for long.
Fearing that she would feel uncomfortable living with a stranger of the opposite sex, Jin Jiaan rarely stayed overnight here. He would always come back to see Jin Zhou and leave at night.
Because of the rent and living expenses he gave, plus the alimony from her ex-husband, Song Nian tried her best to give Song Shuyang a good environment to grow up in even though she didn't work. With the company of her mother and the discipline of her brother, he grew up to be a sunny and kind person.
Song Nian would also be grateful to him for bringing Jin Zhou to her and Song Shuyang, making the small Western-style building at No. 69 Qingmei Lane a real home.
"Old Jin," she called him softly, "you know everything about the two children, right?"
Jin Jiaan paused while scooping the soup and nodded.
She stood up, turned her back, and bathed her face in the warm late winter sun.
"I did show my affection to you before. At that time, I thought you were a responsible and courageous man. But for so long, you have never responded to my feelings. I, Song Nian, have never lacked suitors from school to marriage to divorce. I am too lazy to hang myself on you."
She tilted her head back, trying hard to hold back the tears in her eyes.
Jin Jiaan still didn't say anything.
Song Nian turned around and cursed angrily, "Wooden."
Jin Jiaan quietly packed up the thermos and suddenly told her, "I'm planning to move out. I'm asking Xiaozhou to look for a suitable house these days."
"That's great," Song Nian said, crossing his arms. "After living in my house for so many years, I can finally buy my own house."
She pulled a card from her coat pocket and slapped it in front of him. "Your wages over the years, minus fourteen years' rent, and Xiaozhou's living expenses until he turns eighteen, are all here."
"Um."
There was no excuses or politeness, and the fourteen-year dispute between the two people was finally settled.
Song Nian picked up the thermos and said, "I'm leaving."
"Let's have dinner together sometime," Jin Jiaan suddenly said, "for the sake of the two children."
"Well, it's time for a meal. Your son just seduced my son away like that. It's not right for you not to treat him to a meal."
Jin Jiaan was silent for a long time, then slowly said, "It's obviously Yangyang who likes to pester brother."
"Damn it!" Song Nian was furious. "How could you tell that Yangyang was the one who started it? It was obviously Xiaozhou who had ulterior motives and was deliberately seducing her. Yangyang is so young, what does he know? He was just coaxed and tricked by Xiaozhou and fell into her trap."
"Yangyang proposed first."
"It was Xiaozhou who first came up with the evil idea. He confessed it honestly and said he had been secretly in love with Yangyang for a long time."
As they were arguing, Jin Zhou came out of the bathroom, wiping his head and apologetically said, "Dad, it was really me who seduced you on purpose."
Jin Jiaan: “…”
Song Nian: "Just look at me and tell me."
She turned around and asked Jin Zhou, "Have you found a house yet?"
"I've chosen a second-hand house. It's not far from the city, it's spacious, has good lighting, and can be lived in after a little cleaning."
He paused, then smiled and said, "You can come and see it when you have time. My dad doesn't know how to decorate, so I need your help to check the soft furnishings."
"I don't care about your dad's affairs," she said, shaking the thermos bucket casually. "Let's go."
Before leaving the ward, she couldn't suppress the turbulent waves in her heart. Thousands of words turned into an extremely restrained sentence: "Old Jin, don't drive a big car anymore."
"Well, after the accident is dealt with, I'll sell my truck and buy a small van. I'll help with moving and delivery in the surrounding area."
The door closed gently.
Jin Zhou witnessed the extremely regretful yet restrained farewell between the two adults, and thought that he was incapable of doing so.
Now that the relationship has taken a step forward, he can't go back.
He asked Jin Jiaan: "Dad, do you smoke?"
The doctor told me not to smoke these few days, but sometimes people don’t listen too much to advice and end up suffocating themselves.
The father and son squatted on the curb in front of the hospital and smoked. Jin Zhou didn't light it, but just kept it in his mouth to accompany his father.
"When did you find out?" Jin Zhou asked about him and Song Shuyang.
Jin Jia'an exhaled a puff of smoke and said that he knew it from the first day he returned home when he saw what Yangyang was wearing around his neck.
Jin Zhou had no intention of hiding anything. Once, he was even caught by his father when he went to look for Song Shuyang in the middle of the night with a condom in his pocket.
The two people pretended not to see each other.
"I know you have liked Yangyang since you were a child." Jin Jiaan put the cigarette in his mouth.
Because he talks so little, his presence is low, and because of this he always sees many things that others cannot discover.
He knew that Jin Zhou had deliberately given himself a fever when he was a child in order to force him to keep him by his side, but he had no choice. The accident rate for heavy truck drivers remained high. He was afraid that the only thought left to him by his late wife would go with her, and he was even more afraid that keeping him by his side would bring him bad luck.
He also knew what the lonely and greedy look in Jin Zhou's eyes meant since Song Shuyang's adolescence.
If you want to blame someone, blame the father and son for having highly consistent vision and both yearning for warm things.
Jin Zhou said depressedly: "Do you know what Song Shuyang said after you had the operation?"
"He asked you to be with Aunt Song and said that I'm done with him. When we were little, you refused to call me brother, but now you want to treat me like your brother."
Jin Jiaan smiled for the first time and sighed, "This kid..."
Jin Zhou noticed something and suddenly stood up with his eyes narrowed.
"Song Shuyang," he said, looking at the tree with legs in front of him, "Come here, your brother wants to beat you up."
