Chapter 113: Falling into the clutches of the devil

Chapter 113: Falling into the clutches of the devil

It was a rather short leg, only about half a meter long to the naked eye. And... it was the right leg.

"Doctor Yun! Go call someone!" Linlang shouted to Vina Yun. "Doctor Yun, what's wrong with you?"

Vina Yun covered her eyes tightly, as if she was very afraid of what was in the confessional.

"I'm fine!" Vina Yun turned away from the light in the confessional and said to Lin Lang, "I'll go get someone. You..."

"I have to check here to see if there are any other limbs."

Linlang thought, if someone was murdered, the murderer would not have dismembered only the victim's right leg; there must have been other limbs, or even the body. Since the murderer could place the right leg in the church's confessional, the rest of the body must also be nearby.

Vina Yun hesitated for a moment, then ran towards the door, but before she walked out, she stopped for some reason and stared blankly outside.

"Doctor Yun, what's wrong?" Linlang was a little puzzled.

Before Vinayun could reply, seven or eight people burst in from the doorway, all wearing devilish masks. They were Satanists! Another person was pinned down and unable to move.

Linlang covered her mouth in shock. Wasn’t the person being held down Luo Mei?

"Okay, there are people here! Vina Yun, didn't you say you were here to see the priest? Who is this person?" The leader pointed at Linlang and asked in English.

"Clark, she's just a patient in the hospital." Vina Yun answered calmly.

"Patient? That's not right. I know she knows this female thief. She's sneaking around and must have bad intentions!" He looked towards the confessional, "What's going on?"

Linlang glanced at Vina Yun and said, "It was Doctor Yun who discovered the leg inside. I was just about to check if there was anything else unusual..."

"One leg? Great! You're actually committing murder here? Tell me the truth. Who did you kill? And how did you do it?"

Vina Yun quickly defended Lin Lang, "No! It definitely wasn't Miss Lin's doing. Look..." As she spoke, she pulled at the wooden door of the confessional, but it didn't budge. "The door is locked. Without the key to the confessional, it's impossible to get that leg in."

The ghost-faced man named Clark went forward to check, and sure enough, the door could not be opened at all.

"Couldn't she just steal the key first, put her legs in, lock the door and come out?" said the ghost-faced man next to him.

Clark touched his body and shook his head. "No, the key that Douglas left is still with me. It hasn't been stolen."

Linlang spread her hands and said, "Look, I'm innocent."

"Oh, even if you didn't do the leg stunt, it's a fact that you and this female thief are accomplices. Come on, catch her."

Linlang wanted to argue, but she was like a scholar meeting a soldier, and no matter how hard she tried to reason, she couldn't stop the two ghost-faced men from rushing forward and arresting her without any explanation.

"Clark, you're going too far!" Vina Yun said to Clark, her tone timid.

Clark glared at her fiercely. "Vina, don't forget that our belief in Satan hasn't been truly accepted yet. Mr. Leslie has always warned us to keep a low profile. It's fine if you don't agree, but if these two Chinese women leak the news, it won't be good for us!"

"What? You want to kill to silence the witness?" Vina Yun's face showed horror.

Clark thought for a moment. "No, there's no need to rush to kill them. The leg in the confessional suggests someone has attacked one of our people. It's still unclear who the murderer is or who the victim is. If we kill them rashly, it might just play into that person's hands."

"Mr. Clark, it's possible they did it," said another ghost-faced figure nearby. It was the female voice Linlang had heard earlier. "Although they don't have the key, maybe they used some other means to do it."

"No matter what, we need to detain them both first." Clark ordered his men to lock Luo Mei and Lin Lang up in the warehouse behind the church. As for the leg, he had the confessional opened, removed it, and placed it in the dark room dedicated to Satan.

Only after the ghost-faced man locked the warehouse door and walked away did Linlang breathe a sigh of relief. "I was wondering, how could you be so careless that you were caught right after leaving the church?"

"Hey, I thought these people had dispersed and gone home, so I followed the leader. Who would have thought that Doctor Yun, whom you know, would suddenly appear and attract his attention, catching me off guard. He happened to see me and ordered someone to arrest me." Luo Mei was very dissatisfied and indignant. "Tell me, what's the matter with that human leg? Is it really like he said, that someone is secretly plotting against these Satanists?"

"Who knows?" Linlang shrugged. "But from what I roughly observed about the person's leg, the foot was not wearing shoes, the thigh and calf were not much different in thickness, and the entire leg was not very long. It seems more like... more like..."

"More like what?" Luo Mei became anxious when she saw Linlang hesitating.

"More like a child's leg."

"What? A child?" Luo Mei's face changed and he couldn't help but take a breath.

"That's just my feeling. After all, I didn't observe the leg closely. But one thing is certain: judging by the bloodstains on the leg's broken surface, it wasn't that long ago. Perhaps it was cut off soon after the victim's death, or perhaps the victim wasn't dead yet..."

"Just cut off the legs while the person is still alive? The murderer is too cruel, isn't he?" Luo Mei showed an expression of disbelief.

"These are just my guesses. It's difficult to draw a definite conclusion without careful investigation."

"Instead of you making random guesses here, you should think carefully about how we can escape."

Linlang looked around the warehouse. Although it wasn't large, it was filled with quite a bit of stuff: boxes, wooden shelves, cloth, furniture, and even some tools for gardening and tending plants near the entrance. The gardeners must have stored their tools there.

Maybe there are iron tools like scissors or scrapers that I can use to escape from here?

Linlang inched closer and examined carefully, but found only a rake, a stick, and a watering can—no bladed tools. She glanced at the barred window next to the warehouse door, rolled her eyes, and came up with an idea.

"Luo Mei, do me a favor." Linlang leaned close to Luo Mei's ear and told her what she was thinking.

Luo Mei pondered for a moment and said, "That's a good idea, but...is there any rope here?"

"There's some cloth right there. Why not twist it into a rope? It's definitely stronger than an ordinary rope."

"Then give it a try."

Linlang tried to lift the watering bucket and found that it was less than half full of water. "Wetting the cloth with water will make it more resilient, so it will be very strong when tied to something."

"What are we waiting for? Let's do it!" Luo Mei was eager to try.

Linlang shook her head. "Don't worry. What time is it now?"

"I guess it's eleven o'clock at night."

Linlang leaned over to the warehouse door and listened outside. There should be two people guarding it. "Let's wait until the middle of the night, when they're all asleep, and then we can act."

Luo Mei nodded in agreement. "If I weren't afraid of exposing my identity and didn't have my tomb-robbing gear with me, I would have already untied the ropes. Now I can only be patient and follow your instructions." She was silent for a moment, then continued, "Linlang, do you think... is Du Yunzhang a scoundrel?"

"Brother Du? He's a warm-hearted man. As long as Brother Yin and I need help, he'll always help us. Even though he's an official, he's always open-hearted and sincere to us. He'll always be there for us when we're in danger..."

"Humph, he's always been so reckless."

Upon hearing this, Linlang became interested. "Hey, Sister Luo Mei, can you tell me about your past with Brother Du?"

Luo Mei raised her eyebrows, "What? Do you want to see me having fun?"

Linlang giggled, "Isn't this just curiosity?"

"I don't have time for these idle chatter. Besides, what can that idiot Du Yunzhang have to do with me? It's just that one is an official and the other is a bandit. We are just like water and fire."

Seeing that Luo Mei was not interested in gossip, Linlang didn't want to insist. Although it was a bit disappointing, in such a situation, it was more important to think about how to escape and investigate.
