Chapter 115: Arm
Although the rooms in the house are not big and the furnishings are simple, they are more than enough to accommodate one person comfortably.
"Just bear with it here for a while. I'll go outside and find out what's going on. If possible, I'll rescue your friend."
"I advise you not to act rashly. If anything happens to you, I'll feel even more guilty." Linlang held Vina Yun's hand, "Let's take a long-term approach."
Vina Yun thought about it and decided to do so.
"But what about that leg in the confessional last night?" Linlang asked. "Is this some kind of sacrificial ritual?"
Vina Yun shook her head. "I'm not sure, maybe."
"Did you see clearly that it was a real human leg?"
"As a doctor, I have some judgment. That leg is definitely not fake." Vina Yun vowed.
"Then the question arises: whose leg is that? And judging by its size, it looks more like a child's leg. So, is the child dead or alive? Who is the perpetrator? What was his purpose in putting the leg in the confessional? Also, the door to the confessional is locked. How did he get the leg in there?"
This series of questions made Vina Yun a little confused, and she didn't know how to answer for a moment.
"Why...are you so concerned about this? Shouldn't you be more concerned about the safety of you and your friends right now?"
"After all, that's just a child. I really can't stand seeing someone being so cruel to a child." Linlang's eyes widened as she spoke righteously.
Vina Yun couldn't help but nod repeatedly. "Miss Lin is truly remarkable. Even when she and her friends are in danger, she still cares about the safety of others. I admire you from the bottom of my heart! In that case, I must help you to the end. You rest here first. I'll go outside to find out what's going on and bring you some food."
Linlang thanked him repeatedly.
Vina Yun reminded Linlang again that if someone came uninvited, she must not reveal her whereabouts and should hide in the inner storage room. Outsiders would not know that there was a small room there.
After Vinayun left, Linlang finally breathed a sigh of relief. She could finally stop worrying. She glanced around the room. Besides the necessary furniture like cabinets, beds, tables, chairs, and benches, there were also some Christian items like crosses, Bibles, and portraits of the Virgin Mary and Child.
It seems that Vina Yun is a very devout Christian, Linlang thought.
The table was cluttered with fountain pens and books. Among them was a half-open notebook, written entirely in English and marked with a date. It seemed to be her diary. Linlang, curious, considered flipping through it, but quickly dismissed the idea. Peeping into someone else's diary was extremely rude, especially since they had taken her in out of kindness and risked their lives. Such disrespect was unacceptable.
She shifted her gaze from the notebook and saw some medical books on the table, mostly in English. On the left side of the table stood an ink and pen holder, and on the right was an extinguished oil lamp. It looked like the occupant of the room often read and wrote at night.
Just as she was lost in thought, she heard a squeaking sound from the corner of the room. Linlang's hair stood on end; it was the sound of mice! Unsure where she got the courage, she followed the sound to the corner behind the bed. Sure enough, there were two mice fighting over a small ball. Scared by the approaching presence, the mice quickly scurried off into the darkness.
Linlang squatted down to take a look. The ball was made of glass, with some yellow embellishments inside the core. She was a little puzzled. Why would there be such a thing in Vina Yun's room?
Not only here, Linlang also found two colored glass balls in the pen holder on the table, which made her wonder - could it be that Vina Yun also has a quirk of collecting glass balls?
After waiting for more than an hour, Vina Yun finally came back with some sesame cakes and braised meat, but Linlang could see that she was a little flustered.
"You look strange...what's wrong?" Linlang asked.
"Something...something happened again!" She seemed to be trying hard to control her emotions.
"Could it be Luo Mei..." Linlang was nervous.
"No, it's a hospital!"
"Hospital? What happened in the hospital?"
"It's on the cross above the plaque at the main entrance of the hospital. Someone found an arm hanging on it early this morning!"
arm?
Linlang was immediately shocked. A right leg had appeared in the confessional, and not long after, an arm! What was going on?
"What does the arm look like?"
"I leaned over to take a look. It wasn't as long as my arm, and it was my left arm."
"Could it be... a child's arm?" Linlang frowned. "Could it be from the same child as the right leg?"
"It's so scary!" Vina Yun exclaimed.
Linlang bit her lip tightly, "No, I have to go and see!"
"NO! NO! NO! You can't go!" Vina Yun hurriedly stopped him. "It's broad daylight. If you show up, you'll definitely be discovered by those people. It will be impossible for you to save your friend!"
"But...how can I sit still when such a tragic murder happens?"
Vina Yun thought for a moment, then looked around the room. "They should have taken the arm by now and put it together with the right leg from yesterday. So..." Vina Yun found two short wooden sticks in the corner on the left. "I'll use these to replace the arm and the right leg and show you if there are any clues to the murderer."
Linlang thought, this is a good idea. So she nodded in agreement, and at the same time reminded her to be careful.
After a quick meal, Linlang felt dizzy, perhaps because she had spent a whole night in fear hiding in the weeds without any rest, and because the wound on her head from the attack the day before hadn't fully healed. She fell headfirst onto the bed and fell into a deep sleep.
When she woke up again, it was already afternoon. Why hadn't Vina Yun returned yet? Linlang sat up in bed and looked out the window. Apart from the occasional hurried villager or two, there was no one else around.
I've been here for almost two days, but I still don't know the name of this town. I'll have to find out when Vina Yun returns.
After waiting for another two or three hours, Vina Yun still didn't come back. Seeing that it was getting dark, Linlang couldn't help but feel anxious - could it be that Dr. Yun was impulsive and went to save Luo Mei on his own, and was captured?
Waiting like this was no solution, so Linlang secretly made up her mind and prepared to sneak out to find out the truth while it was getting dark.
Just as she had packed everything and was about to open the door to go out, she suddenly heard someone talking outside:
"Is this it?"
"Here it is!"
Linlang was startled. Had they discovered her whereabouts? Or had Vina Yun been captured and forced to reveal her whereabouts? As the footsteps approached the door, her heart began to leap.
