Chapter 118: Saving Luo Mei

Chapter 118: Saving Luo Mei

The third severed limb!

Linlang was startled at first, but quickly regained her composure. She touched the blood dripping onto the back of her hand; it felt sticky. Looking up, she saw that the blood, flowing from the thigh's cross section, must have first dripped onto the top of the doorway beneath the cross before continuing to drip downwards. It was no longer dripping.

She looked down at the foot of the door again, but there was no pool of blood, only three or four scattered drops of blood.

It seems that the leg has been hanging there for not long, and the murderer may not have gone far.

Linlang turned back to search the perimeter of the hospital. Aside from the west, which was obscured by a patch of wormwood, there were no other signs of human activity. If the murderer had hung his legs on the cross and fled toward the wormwood, then further in would be a waterway. Unless someone came to rescue him, he wouldn't have been able to leave Jushuitun so easily.

So the most likely possibility is that the murderer should still be in this hospital!

"Hey! Hey—someone come quickly!"

Suddenly, a cry of surprise came from the direction of the flower garden. Linlang's face suddenly changed, thinking that the gardener, Ma Laoba, had discovered her whereabouts. She subconsciously squatted on the ground, hugging the gable of the hospital, trying to hide her figure as much as possible.

Soon, people began to rush out of the hospital and church, heading for the flower garden. But after a while, no one seemed to notice Linlang's presence. Instead, they all gathered in the northwest corner of the flower garden, near the banyan tree, listening to what Ma Lao Ba was saying.

Linlang refused to miss this opportunity. She risked being exposed and went to the wooden fence at the junction of the hospital and the flower garden. She used the bushes as cover and went to the scene to listen attentively.

"Did you just discover this?" a doctor asked Ma Laoba.

"Yes, I came here early this morning to sort out the flowers and plants, and I found this hanging on the branch of the banyan tree. It nearly scared me to death!"

"Did you notice any suspicious people when you came here? For example, the woman you knocked out last time."

"Um... no, no. It was just daybreak when I arrived, and I could see the entire garden clearly, but I didn't see anyone else there."

"This is a right arm, about the same size as the left arm we found at the hospital entrance yesterday," a nurse exclaimed.

"So... a leg and two arms have appeared now. If these limbs belong to one person, then the only thing missing is the right leg!"

"Oh my God! Who is so perverted? How could they do such a horrible thing?"

Everyone chattered in a flurry of chatter, all of which Linlang overheard. The nurse who spoke had a tone reminiscent of the one who had brought the two severed limbs to Vinayun's home. She also said they were roughly the same size as the left arm found yesterday, implying she knew the left arm's dimensions well. It seemed she was the uninvited guest. The other nurse was probably also a nurse from the hospital, and presumably had a good relationship with Vinayun.

The leg on the back door should be discovered soon. The murderer must have planned everything long ago. In this case, hiding here is not a wise move. It is better to sneak into the hospital and find Vina Yun and Luo Mei as soon as possible while those people are paying attention to the flower garden.

Linlang made up her mind, gritted her teeth, pushed the door open and entered the hospital.

The back door was right next to the staircase leading to the second floor, but it was slightly lower than the first floor, so it took a few more steps to reach the corridor. To the right was the reception desk, facing the main door, which was also empty at this time.

Linlang remembered that after she was knocked unconscious, Luo Mei sent her to the ward on the second floor. At that time, Vina Yun came to bring her medicine, so her clinic must have been on the second floor as well.

However, she suddenly had a strong intuition that she shouldn't go upstairs now, but should instead explore the morgue in the basement. What might be there? Linlang herself couldn't explain why she made such a decision, but a voice in her heart always told her that there must be something important in the morgue.

Instead of running around like a headless fly, it’s better to just follow your feelings. You will get there sooner or later anyway.

Following her memory from the previous time she'd tracked down the strange man, Linlang returned to the basement. There was no one there either, so she mustered her courage and explored the entire basement corridor. Although it was dim, most of the room doors were ajar. The easternmost room, however, was completely shut, with a large, ox-nose-shaped padlock hanging from it. It was unknown what was locked inside.

"Luo Mei? Are you in there?" Linlang called out softly with courage, but no one answered in the room.

"Doctor Yun! Are you there?" She asked again, this time not only to the locked room, but also so that the entire basement could hear. However, there was still no answer.

Going further west is the morgue. Thinking of this, Linlang couldn't help but feel a little hesitant to think further. Could it be that Luo Mei or Vina Yun...

It’s better not to speculate randomly for now, seeing is believing, go and see for yourself!

The morgue door, though apparently tightly shut, was actually unlocked. Linlang pushed it open with a gentle push. She remembered how she had secretly followed that strange man. He'd entered through a low door diagonally opposite the morgue door, then walked straight through a secret passage to the church's confessional. But this time, that door wasn't there? Instead, another door had suddenly appeared directly opposite.

Did I remember it wrong? Linlang was a little puzzled.

Never mind, let’s go and see what’s inside the door first.

When she reached the door and peeked inside, she was pleasantly surprised to find someone tied to a chair in the corner. It was Luo Mei. She lay motionless, her head lowered, her hands tied behind her back, her legs tied together. Judging by her gentle snoring, Luo Mei seemed fine, just still asleep.

"Luo Mei! Luo Mei! Wake up! Wake up!" Linlang patted Luo Mei gently and called out in a low voice.

After a while, Luo Mei finally woke up. "Um... Damn it..." She cursed softly, and with some effort, she raised her head to see Lin Lang standing in front of her. "Why are you here? Where are those people?"

"Of course I'm here to save you! Don't ask so many questions, just follow me." As she said that, Linlang started to untie the rope on Luo Mei.

"You're really nice," Luo Mei said with a smile, "I thought I was going to fall into the hands of those foreign devils this time!"

"What are you talking about? I escaped from their clutches because you attracted their attention. How could I be so ungrateful and leave you here?"

"Hmm... It seems Yin Chuan was right about you. You are indeed a woman of affection and righteousness."

"Hey, why did you mention him?" Linlang blushed. "By the way, during the time you were detained here, did you meet that female doctor named Vina Yun?"

"Vina Yun? What does she look like?"

"She was a female doctor with round glasses and pigtails. She once brought me medicine. You were there at the time, remember?"

The rope had been untied. Luo Mei rubbed her wrist and recalled, "Oh, I remember now. It seems that I have never seen her appear. Why did you ask about her? Where did you hide later?"

Linlang supported Luo Mei and said, "Let's leave here first. I'll tell you in detail when we get to our destination."

The two left the morgue and returned to the first floor from the basement. They didn't dare go through the front door, so they left the hospital through the back door. Linlang couldn't help but look up at the cross above the back door. The leg was still hanging there, and the blood had stopped dripping.

"What's wrong?" Luo Mei asked.

"Nothing, let's go." Linlang didn't want to cause any trouble, fearing that if they left too late, the people would return and discover their whereabouts. Or if they realized that the captured people had escaped and launched a village-wide search, it would be extremely difficult for them to escape.
