Chapter 125: People with the same disease

Chapter 125: People with the same disease

Back to Luo Mei, she led two Cao Gang members to the hospital's basement morgue, following her own memories of being captured and Lin Lang's instructions. On one side of the room was the secret room where she had been held, while on the other was the secret passage that Lin Lang had insisted she had discovered leading to the church. There wasn't a clear doorway in sight, so Luo Mei instructed the two to remain on guard while he carefully explored the corners.

Sure enough, under the illumination of the light in her hand, the outline of the door gradually appeared, but this door was shorter than the others, only reaching her face at most.

"You two, right here! Get your weapons ready!" Luo Mei called out to the two Cao Gang brothers.

The two men understood what she was trying to do. They grabbed their long-prepared crowbars and shovels, each thrusting one into the gap on the left side of the outline. Luo Mei was a master tomb raider, so how could she possibly be bothered by prying open a coffin and opening the door? Once they had their tools in place, she pulled a deer sinew rope from her deerskin pouch and tied each end to the crowbar and shovel. Then, she pulled out a capstan, threaded the deer sinew rope through it, and wound a few loops around it. She twisted the capstan handle a few times, and with a few clicks, the secret door swung open with ease.

"As expected, this door can only be pushed from the inside out. If it weren't for my method, we would definitely not be able to get in." Luo Mei explained to the two people from the Cao Gang.

The two Cao Gang members, also outsiders, gave a thumbs-up simultaneously. "Miss Luo's reputation as 'Earth Flying Swallow' is truly well-deserved. No wonder Brother Du has always been obsessed with you!"

Luo Mei's face darkened. "Just get to work, and don't mention Du Yunzhang in front of me! Let's go!"

They both knew that Luo Mei always appeared to be indifferent to Du Yunzhang, but in fact she was still thinking about him. Seeing her unhappy expression, they had no choice but to shut up and follow Luo Mei into the secret passage.

As they continued along the secret passage, they passed the banyan tree. Just as Linlang had described, a faint, fishy odor filled the air. The three of them paid no attention to it, simply skirting the tree and continuing forward.

At the end of the secret passage was a hidden door leading to the church's confessional. Perhaps some of Clark's cult members had already begun escaping through this door, Luo Mei thought. However, when he reached the entrance to the upward passage, he saw only a dark, enclosed wall. The hidden door remained the same as the morgue, with no discernible outline.

"Let's light up, and we'll follow the instructions to find the door here and then pry it open!" said a brother from the Cao Gang.

Luo Mei waved his hand to stop him, "No, if we disturb the people above, we will be exposed."

"What should we do then?"

"According to Yin Chuan's second scenario response strategy, we should monitor from the shadows nearby. He's certain someone will take this passage, so we need to be patient."

The two members of the Cao Gang nodded, and hid in the corner of the passage with Luo Mei, waiting for the other party's action.

Let's talk about Linlang and Vinayun walking together. Vinayun saw that Linlang was in high spirits, walking briskly, and her spirits were much better than before. She knew that she was so excited to meet her good friend again.

"What's the matter? Is your Brother Yin...the one you like?" Vina Yun asked tentatively.

Linlang blushed, "No way! He's just my best friend."

"Don't be embarrassed. Even a fool can see that the way you look at him is different from the way you look at others. Haven't you revealed your feelings to him yet?"

"Doctor Yun, there's nothing like what you said. Brother Yin and I are innocent, and he used to have a family."

"You have a family?" Vina Yun glared. "I hate this kind of fickle man the most! Don't get on his bandwagon!"

"No, no, you misunderstood." Linlang quickly explained, "He just had a family. Brother Yin got married early in life, married a woman named Chao, and had a lovely child. However, when the child was six years old, the family suffered a major tragedy. Both mother and child died in an accident. Brother Yin endured the pain of losing his wife and child for many years, taking care of my mother alone. In my eyes, he is a rare good man."

"Losing a wife and a son..." Upon hearing this, Vina Yun lowered her head and seemed to be thinking about something.

"Doctor Yun, what's wrong with you?"

"No, nothing. I just...thought of my child."

"Oh? You have a child? Where is he now? Can you tell me about it?"

"Well...actually, there's not much to say. When I was twenty-two, I fell in love with a wealthy young man. I got pregnant before we were married and gave birth to a daughter. Later, the man ran away, and I had to raise the child alone. However, when the child was seven, she died in an accident. I guess she didn't get to enjoy life."

As she spoke, Vina Yun looked gloomy, which made Linlang feel quite sympathetic.

"I'm sorry, Dr. Yun, I brought up your sad memories..."

"It's okay. It's been several years. I've let it go long ago." Vina Yun smiled again. But Linlang could tell that she was forcing a smile.

The topic suddenly became serious, and the two of them fell into silence. It was Vina Yun who took the initiative to break the dull atmosphere. "Oh, by the way, I heard them call you 'Linlang'. I don't think your last name is Lin, right?"

"I'm sorry, but as a woman traveling the world, I have no choice but to use a false name. Lin Yu is my pseudonym, and my real name is Ou Ye Linlang."

"The double surname Ouye? This surname is very rare!"

"Excuse me."

"Is he from the surrounding area?"

"Although I'm originally from Shandong, I was sold to foreigners by human traffickers when I was a child. I spent my youth wandering around Europe, and only returned to China a few years ago with my master."

"Oh? So your experience is very similar to mine." Vina Yun's eyes lit up. "Although I wasn't abducted by human traffickers, and my family connections allowed me to study medicine in Germany, I did spend many years in Europe. Look at the flowers and plants in the garden; many of them I brought back from Europe. Irises, violets, bluebells, and pansies are all high-quality varieties I picked in Germany and France."

"Doctor Yun has a really good eye. These flowers are my favorites too."

The two of them walked and talked, laughing all the way, but they didn't know that behind the doors of the villagers they passed by, there were more than one pair of eyes staring at them.

After returning to Vina Yun's residence, the first thing Linlang did after entering the house was to take out the two severed limbs from the storage room.

"Doctor Yun, I feel really bad for leaving these two unlucky things with you."

Wei Nayun smiled and shook her head. "What's that? Don't forget, I'm a doctor, specializing in both internal medicine and surgery. I'm used to seeing this kind of thing. Just put them on the table."

"Put it on the table?" Linlang was stunned. "Is it really okay?"

"It's okay, just leave it there."

Since they said so, Linlang put aside her concerns and placed the cloth bag containing an arm and a leg in the middle of the table.

"This child is also a miserable person..."

Vina Yun sat down on the chair beside the table and sighed while looking at the cloth bag on the table.

"Yes. I have to thank you for being able to swap the two limbs out of their hands. But the two people you asked to deliver the things were a bit unreliable. They were so clumsy that I thought I was discovered by the cult members!"

Just as she said this, she heard a sharp "clang" outside, like the sound of shattering glass. Both of them were startled and stood up to look outside. They saw a dark figure flashing by on the street. They couldn't make out its face, but from the general appearance of its clothes, they could tell it was a villager.

"What is that person doing?" Vina Yun murmured.

"He...he smashed the glass of the house next door with a stone!" Linlang exclaimed.

Vina Yun looked out the window and saw that the glass of the house not far away was broken, with glass shards scattered all over the ground. She couldn't help but gasp.

"I'm going to ask what's going on and why he smashed other people's windows!" Linlang was a little indignant and planned to go out and find out what was going on.

"Don't go!" Vina Yun hurriedly held her back. "Who knows what that man is up to? If you go, he might turn against you and it would be bad for you..."

"Who lives in the house next door? What grudge do they have against the villagers?"

"Many of the houses in this area were built by church and hospital personnel, and they're all occupied by believers and doctors and nurses like me. I guess the villagers have been holding grudges against the cult members, so they're taking advantage of the fact that they're trapped in the church by the Cao Gang to destroy the houses to vent their anger."

Linlang thought this made sense, so she stopped asking.

It was past ten in the evening, the sky outside was gloomy, and a strong wind was blowing. Linlang stared at the starless sky and muttered to herself thoughtfully, "It looks like a heavy rain is coming soon."

"Yes," Vinayun nodded, "I hope I don't hurt the flowers and plants in the garden."
