Chapter 35: Little Cloth Man Rubbing Big Cat Wen Han was absolutely furious...
"You actually care about Gu Cheng?" After Zhang Yongqi left, Lin He poked his head out. "Has the sun risen in the west?"
Wen Han said disdainfully, "You dare to come out and embarrass yourself after eavesdropping on other people's conversations."
“I wasn’t thinking of hiding him,” Lin He laughed. “I’m telling the truth. Gu Cheng’s father had high hopes for him, but Gu Cheng was too much of a troublemaker, so he stopped caring about him. Why would you want them to reconcile?”
Wen Han countered, "Why can't I hope that they, father and son, can reconcile?"
Lin He put his arm around his shoulder: "If it were Wen Ruan, I would believe you. You wouldn't be so kind."
Lin He deliberately pressed his weight onto Wen Han, and Wen Han reached out and stroked his arm.
"Ouch!" Lin He immediately jumped back, revealing five white fingernail marks on his arm.
He looked at Wen Han's fingers and complained, "Why do you keep your nails so long?"
Seeing him like this, Wen Han smiled sincerely and waved her paw in front of him twice: "It's just to keep people like you out."
"Hmph," Lin He said sourly, "I was originally going to invite you to the banquet, but now I don't want to."
Another banquet? Wen Han frowned. "It's not the Gu family's banquet, is it?"
Lin He was stunned: "How did you know?"
Wen Han sized him up a few times. Lin He was able to attend the Gu family's banquet; could it be that his family background was quite impressive? Wen Han said casually, "I overheard his younger brother let it slip."
Lin He asked, "Do you want to go?"
"Go by yourself." Wen Han remembered something and called him back, "Besides you, are there any other... rather unserious people going to that banquet?"
"How am I being unserious?"
Wen Han didn't argue with him: "Okay, okay, I'm sorry, are there any people who are lecherous?"
"What do you want to do?" Lin He snorted. "Why should I tell you?"
Forget it, I'll just go back and ask Jingyu.
"Hey, hey, hey." Lin He softened his tone when he saw Wen Han turn to leave. "I need to know why you asked that, right?"
After observing him for the past few days, Wen Han realized that Lin He was the type who thrived on chaos. He simply didn't want to offend Gu Cheng, but he didn't care if Gu Cheng suffered misfortune.
“I plan to trick Wen Ruan into going to that banquet without Gu Cheng knowing,” Wen Han added, “without Gu Cheng knowing.”
"Ah..." Lin He quickly understood what he was about to do. "Wen Ruan is quite pretty, but he's still your brother, isn't he?"
"Gu Cheng won't let anything happen to him." Wen Han glanced at him, and Lin He laughed, "So you want his father to give in and let Gu Cheng attend that banquet as the Gu family heir, so that he can lose face and be jealous at the banquet?"
“Hmm.” Wen Han pondered, “That’s why I asked you if you knew any playboys, preferably those who are prone to making foolish mistakes based solely on their lower instincts.”
"I do know him. What are you going to do?"
"I'll figure something out. You pick the right people first." Wen Han's mind works incredibly fast when doing this kind of thing. "Ah, I've got it."
He beckoned, and Lin He readily joined in: "You invite them to a restaurant, and I'll bring Wen Ruan there."
"Will he obediently listen to you?"
“If he wants to go, he needs nice clothes,” Wen Han said with a smile. “When the time comes, you can pull some strings and get him a part-time job there.”
“OK.” Lin He said with a smile, “I have no problem with that, but you’ll have to figure out how to make Wen Ruan believe you.”
"Just try to bear it." Wen Han's face fell again as she recalled that scene.
——
On the drive back, the system kept repeating, "A small act of impatience can ruin a great plan."
"Host, you have to be gentler. It's normal for Wen Ruan to be wary of you. You mustn't get angry halfway through your story, or he'll be even less likely to believe you." The system was most worried about Wen Han's bad temper.
"I know," Wen Han murmured. "A small act of impatience can ruin a great plan..."
After taking a shower, Wen Ruan was reading in bed when she glanced at Wen Han with a strange look. Ever since returning home, Wen Han had been muttering something about "Little Bu Ren petting Big Cat."
He casually withdrew his gaze, guessing it was some movie; Wen Han would never read a serious book.
It wasn't until Wen Han took out a small gift box from her schoolbag that she discovered a dazzling brooch inside.
Wen Ruan immediately sat up. Even if it were a fake, Wen Han couldn't afford a brooch of this color. Could it have been stolen?
"Wen Han," Wen Ruan frowned, "where did you get this?"
Wen Han was also startled when he opened the box; it was given to him by Jing Yu after school.
This brooch is shaped like a bouquet of flowers, with stems and leaves adorned with small diamonds and blossoms holding oval pearls. It shines brilliantly even in dim lighting.
Wen Han carefully closed the box; he absolutely couldn't break it.
Seeing that he didn't speak, Wen Ruan became even more convinced that he had stolen it. She put on her slippers and was about to tell Wen Qingke, wanting Wen Han to return it as soon as possible, because if it was damaged, the family would never be able to afford to pay for it.
Wen Han said, "Jing Yu gave it to me."
Wen Ruan was stunned: "Why would he give you such an expensive brooch? Are you and him—"
Wen Ruan's eyes darted away. Wen Han silently repeated twice in her heart that "a small act of impatience can ruin a great plan" before she opened her mouth to explain: "Jing Yu lent it to me. I have helped the Jing family a lot, and he invited me to accompany him to a banquet."
Wen Han asked in surprise, "Wen Ruan, why do you have that expression?"
Wen Ruan stammered and remained silent, but Wen Han's next words plunged him into an icy abyss: "Didn't Gu Cheng invite you?"
"What?" He looked up abruptly. Wen Han smiled and said, "That banquet was hosted by the Gu family."
“But that’s normal,” Wen Han said to herself. “I guess a lot of Omegas from big families will be there. Gu Cheng’s father might even tell him to do his best.”
"Gu Cheng is not that kind of person."
Wen Han glanced at him: "If you don't believe me, why don't you go and observe for yourself?"
"But Gu Cheng didn't invite me."
“If you want to go, you can ask Lin He,” Wen Han said casually. “He didn’t know who to ask either, so he came to ask me. But I’ve already gone with Jing Yu. You can ask him for help; he shouldn’t refuse.”
"Lin He...isn't he Zhang Huihui's boyfriend?"
Wen Han asked curiously, "So, do you want to go by yourself, or do you want Zhang to go back?"
“If he wanted to invite Zhang Huihui, he would have said so already,” Wen Han complained. “Lin He is such a nuisance. If you want to go, I’ll talk to him tomorrow.”
Wen Han seemed annoyed with Lin He, so Wen Ruan didn't suspect anything.
"Then please talk to him about it."
“Since you’re going,” Wen Han said, revealing her true intentions, “come with me to help out at a restaurant. You can’t just show up in any random clothes. They charge a referral fee for bringing in an extra person, and it’s a high-end restaurant, so the part-time pay is quite good.”
Wen Ruan pursed her lips: "Didn't Jing Yu lend you the brooch? He should have prepared a dress for you too. Why are you still working a part-time job?"
Oh no, he forgot about that. Wen Han said, "Since he invited me, I should at least buy him a gift to thank him."
——
"My God." Wen Han brought Wen Ruan to the restaurant that Lin He had told him about. Is this really not the palace?
Even when the Wen family was not in decline, Wen Han had never been to a place like this.
The restaurant manager led them aside, and Wen Han saw Lin He leading a group of friends inside from a distance, and he even smiled at her.
"What are all your skills?" The manager's eyes lit up when he saw Wen Ruan. This kid was too good-looking. There were many good-looking people in their restaurant, but none of them were as good-looking as Wen Ruan.
With such good looks, she should show them off. The manager asked Wenruan, "Can you play the piano or the violin?"
Wen Ruan said shyly, "I can play the piano."
The manager asked him to play two pieces, and exclaimed with delight, "Great! Go and play the piano!"
He turned to Wen Han and asked, "What can you do?"
*
Wen Han was absolutely furious that she had to serve dishes!
He got even angrier after receiving the waitress's uniform; even the work clothes were of better quality than his own. Since Wen Ruan was already there, couldn't he just leave?
Seeing that the waiter glared at him every time a dish was served, Lin He suppressed a laugh and whispered, "There's a tip, there's a tip."
The waiter seemed slightly more willing.
Lin He's friends were all rich kids who had eaten all sorts of delicacies and weren't particularly interested in the food here.
Wen Ruan's beautiful piano playing captivated the group, and one of them remarked, "That pianist looks quite pretty."
Lin He glanced at Wen Han with a smile, and Wen Han understood immediately: "He's my younger brother, and he's here part-time too."
Lin He coughed lightly: "Let's invite him over to have a chat with us."
Before Wen Han left, she secretly pinched him.
Wen Ruan was engrossed in playing the piano when many people in the restaurant noticed this exceptionally handsome Omega. Wen Han whispered, "Lin He wants you to come over."
Wen Ruan hesitated for a moment, but Wen Han urged her, "Go ahead, there's a tip, and they're helping you out."
After Wen Ruan walked over, everyone Lin He brought stared in disbelief.
Seeing that the task was completed, Wen Han was about to find a place to slack off when an Alpha at a nearby table kept snapping his fingers and muttering in English, "waiter, waiter?"
Wen Han pretended not to see, but the Alpha finally lost his temper and said, "Are you blind? Can't you see I'm calling you?"
"Are you calling me? I'm sorry, I don't understand English."
Alpha scoffed, "I can tell just by looking at you."
The Omega he brought along looked very unhappy. Wen Han wondered what kind of trouble she had caused to keep running into such a brainless Alpha at restaurants.
"Give me a salad, no mayonnaise, replace the celery with ice plant, less honey, replace it with grapefruit juice, and replace the apple with kiwi..." Seeing Wen Han not moving, the Alpha asked curiously, "Why don't you remember?"
