Chapter 62 Corn Syndrome Of course, I felt a little bit guilty…

When the homeroom teacher arrived at the office, he saw Wen Han staking out him. After learning what had happened, he told Wen Han to go to morning self-study first, and that he would check the surveillance footage later.

Wen Han returned empty-handed.

Wait, he can ask the system! Wen Han asked, "Can you find out who spilled the coffee on my table?"

"I can't find it, boohoo," the system cried. "The space won't let me use cheats anymore. Now all I can see is the same as you, host."

"Why can't you use cheats?" Wen Han frowned. "Didn't you pay protection money?"

As soon as morning self-study ended, Wen Han pulled Jing Yu to the office, just in case the prisoner covered his face, Jing Yu could help him make a judgment.

"Host, this is a bit difficult to judge."

"Nonsense." This person is practically wrapped up like a mummy; you can't tell if he's a man or a woman.

"This person doesn't look very tall," Wen Han said, her eyes glued to the monitor on the computer. "Jing Yu, what do you think?"

"Judging from his walking posture, he should be male, around 174 cm tall," Jing Yu observed. "He should be someone from our class."

"Why?"

"He went straight to your desk as soon as he entered the classroom, so he obviously knew where you were sitting."

If he's male, we can eliminate half the students in the class; if he's 174cm tall, we can eliminate another half.

The person next to him, who was about 174cm tall... should only be a little taller than Wen Ruan.

Could it be Zhang Huihui again? Wen Han stormed back to the classroom, just as Zhang Huihui was spouting bad things about him. Wen Han asked directly, "I knew it was you."

Zhang Huihui scoffed, "On what grounds? What evidence do you have? Just because someone disapproved of your actions and exposed you, you suspect me?"

Wen Han: "?"

Wen Han originally wanted to ask about the coffee liquid, but Zhang Huihui clearly thought it was about the school wall. This question, however, yielded an unexpected result.

Wen Han sneered: "Stop pretending. I went to ask the campus wall, and he said it was you who sent it to him."

"Zhang Huihui, is it true?" the class monitor asked. "How do you know about Wen Han's family? You don't live with him."

"Yes, Wen Ruo and Wen Ruan live with him and they haven't said anything."

"Who said I posted it!" Zhang Huihui exclaimed urgently. "Why do you say that alt account is mine?"

The surroundings were silent. Zhang Huihui calmed himself down a little, but when he looked up, he saw Wen Han staring at him coldly, a faint smile tugging at the corner of her mouth: "How did you know that was the smaller size?"

Zhang Huihui was startled. Before he could even speak, Wen Han grabbed him by the collar and dragged him out of the classroom.

Inside the office, Jingyu was still talking to the homeroom teacher when a commotion suddenly broke out outside.

Zhang Huihui struggled to break free but couldn't. He gripped Wen Han's hand tightly, leaving several bloody marks. Wen Han, however, seemed oblivious to the pain. Once in the office, she threw him to the ground and then casually picked up a broom and swept it across his face.

"Wen Han!" the homeroom teacher snapped, "What are you doing?"

Looking at Zhang Huihui's face, which was constantly shedding tears of fear, Wen Han grew increasingly resentful and kicked him.

The homeroom teacher was shocked: "You still hit me after I told you?!"

The preparatory bell rang, but it was impossible to go to class right now, so the homeroom teacher had to address their issues first.

Why did you hit him?

"He's spreading rumors about me!"

"Jing Yu has already spoken to the teacher about this." The homeroom teacher sighed. "Wen Han, you should talk things out properly. You hit someone without any evidence. It's not too late to settle scores after the investigation is completed."

Zhang Huihui was still crying intermittently, pretending to be pitiful for no apparent reason. Wen Han, sitting next to him, felt an urge to kill him, wishing she could grab the set square on the table and chase after him to hit him.

The rumors have spread far and wide. If left unchecked, Wen Han might even have trouble attending classes normally. Jing Yu said calmly, "There's no need to go through all that trouble. Just call the police or hire a lawyer to collect evidence and file a lawsuit in the relevant court. That way, even if he cancels his account, the platform can still find out his user information."

"If the other party can admit it voluntarily, that would be better. If they don't admit it, then call the police."

Zhang Huihui initially cried out of shame, but later it was simply out of fear.

Wen Han was already certain that Zhang Huihui was behind it, but since he had no evidence, he could only hold back and wait for the results.

*

After realizing it was a rumor, the person behind the school wall quickly issued a clarification, fearing trouble, and stated that the victim had already reported it to the police. Now, people within the school are speculating about who spread the rumor.

The rumors were stopped too quickly; for Wen Han, it was over before it even began. But this also meant that even if she sued Zhang Huihui, considering that he was a minor and no serious consequences had occurred, his family might just pay some money, issue a school-wide notice and give him a warning, and the matter would be easily dismissed.

"I'm not willing to let it end like this." On the way to the cafeteria at noon, Wen Han asked Jing Yu, "What do you think I should do to get revenge on him?"

Jing Yu smiled and said, "What does he care about most? What does he fear most?"

“Lin He has already broken up with him, are you suggesting that Lin He go to—” Wen Han stopped mid-sentence, suddenly remembering something he had forgotten.

After finishing her meal, Wen Han hurriedly returned to the classroom, but Zhang Huihui's desk was completely clean, without a single book.

"Where is he?" Wen Han instinctively grabbed Wen Ruan. "Did he run away because he felt guilty?"

Wen Ruan didn't have a cell phone; he only learned about the incident from his classmates after class. However, he couldn't figure out how Zhang Huihui knew about it, nor did he want to believe that Zhang Huihui, whom he remembered as somewhat timid and cowardly, could do such a thing: "He went home."

"What?" Wen Han sneered, "Preparing to run away?"

Yang Lanjun glanced at him and said, "He said he developed depression because of your targeting of him."

Wen Han couldn't believe her ears: "What illness?"

"depression."

“I also have corn syndrome.” Wen Han couldn’t let it go like this, so she asked Wen Ruan, “Do you know where he lives?”

"What are you going to do?" Wen Ruan asked cautiously. "You can't just go to someone's house and beat them up, can you?"

"Say it quickly, I won't hit him."

"I don't believe it." Even if Wen Han really didn't want to fight, what if the two of them ended up fighting while they were talking?

Wen Han stared at Wen Ruan, making her feel uneasy: "Then you can come with me, okay?"

——

With Jingyu's help, the lawyer quickly found out who was spreading the rumors. Zhang Huihui, that idiot, hadn't even considered that account deletion would take 15 days to be completely removed.

Wen Han walked in the middle, Wen Ruan followed by force, and Jing Yu was worried that Wen Han would go too far and would then take sides.

"Wen Han," Wen Ruan said, a little worried, "what are you going to say to him when you see him?"

"It's none of your business, just shut your mouth when the time comes."

Zhang Huihui lived in an apartment building. His father didn't even know what Zhang Huihui had been doing and thought he was just feeling unwell, so he took him home. When he saw Wen Ruan and the others, he instinctively assumed they were classmates visiting.

“Huihui, your classmate has come to see you.”

Zhang Huihui was snuggled in bed scrolling through her phone, her search page filled with questions about whether accounts could still be found after being deleted. Hearing her father say this, she immediately closed the page and called out, "Is it Wen Ruan?"

"right."

"Let him in."

Wen Ruan opened the door, and Zhang Huihui was about to ask him about the situation at school when he saw two more people following behind him.

"Wen Han?" Zhang Huihui instinctively wanted to run away, but then remembered that she was in her own home. "What are you doing here? Let me tell you, my dad is still outside."

“I suddenly remembered something I haven’t told you yet.” Wen Han looked around his room. “I was a little reluctant to tell you because you looked so pitiful, but I don’t have that concern anymore.”

He cut to the chase: "Do you know why Lin He suddenly started dating you?"

When Jing Yu saw Wen Han smiling slightly, his eyes also shone with a strange light. At such times, he was in a more cheerful mood, and his steps were lighter. His usual irritability and depression were nowhere to be seen. He seemed to have extraordinary patience, making it impossible to look away.

Wen Ruan saw fear in his expression; at a time like this, Wen Han was capable of saying the most hurtful things.

"After all, he doesn't seem interested in you at all. Didn't you ever have any doubts?"

"I don't need you to tell me!"

“You should thank me,” Wen Han frowned slightly, looking somewhat troubled. “Because I was the one who made him do it.”

Wen Han pulled out a chair and sat down: "Seeing how cautious he was, I thought he would agree to anything I said. He's quite something. If you asked me to pretend to agree to date you, I couldn't do it."

When Wen Ruan finally understood what had happened, she wished she could grow wings and fly away. But the next second, Wen Han laughed and said, "Besides, you like to pester Wen Ruan. Lin He isn't blind, otherwise he wouldn't have taken Wen Ruan to the Gu family's banquet instead of you."

Zhang Huihui was completely absorbed in the drama of betrayal in both love and friendship, and he asked incredulously, "Ruan Ruan, is what he said true? Did Lin He really ask you to be his companion for the night?"

Wen Ruan couldn't lie, so she could only admit, "I'm sorry, please let me explain, I was..."

Zhang Huihui interrupted, crying, "Why? Don't you like Gu Cheng?"

Wen Han added fuel to the fire: "There's no way around it, of course I'll invite the handsome Omega instead of you."

Zhang Huihui glared at her coldly, her eyes red: "Is there any point in you doing this?"

"Of course it's interesting. The sadder you are, the happier I am." Wen Han said with a smile. "Now, you have no friends, no grades, and no one you like—ah, let's not talk about that. Lin He just treated you like a dog, so you can't really say you had anything to do with him."

"If you hadn't been flirting with Lin He all this time, I wouldn't have had to—"

Wen Han impatiently stopped him: "I have absolutely no feelings for him. You've been imagining things from beginning to end. If there's anything between us, it's because of you."

"It's because when he's with you, he smells like honey that's gone bad. Of course I feel a little guilty."

The matter of Lin He's pheromones remained a knot in Zhang Huihui's heart, and hearing Wen Han say this made her face turn pale with anger.

Wen Han looked at him for a while, and finally asked the question he was most curious about: "After I've said so much, do you still like Lin He? Or do you know in your heart that you're just lying to yourself?"

Zhang Huihui gritted her teeth, her chest heaving with anger, her eyes filled with hatred.

It seems that people hate him much more than they hate Lin He.

Since that's the case, Wen Han stood up and said, "They've already found out who the account belongs to. I know they can't do anything to you, but I don't want to see you again."

What do you want to do?

"You two can continue your conversation for the rest of the time," Wen Han said, pointing to Wen Ruan.

Zhang Huihui's father was still watching the game in the dimly lit room; he seemed to be the kind of parent who only verbally expressed concern for his child. Seeing Wen Han walk up to him, he took off his headphones: "Are you two done talking?"

"Hmm." The expression on Wen Han's face couldn't be seen in the dim room. "Uncle, we have something to tell you."

Just blame everything on dating, including grades. When Zhang Huihui's father heard that Zhang Huihui was not focusing on her studies all day because of an Alpha, and was even talking badly about her classmates out of jealousy, he said angrily, "I know, I will talk to the homeroom teacher."

What's the point of talking to the homeroom teacher? They can't control everything.

“I’m afraid that’s a bit difficult. As long as Zhang Huihui is still in school, he’ll be focused on her,” Wen Han suggested. “Why don’t you transfer schools? Let’s go to a stricter one and take his phone away from us.”

*

“Actually, his life would have been even harder if he hadn’t transferred schools.”

“How could someone like him possibly resist asking around? The more upset he is, the more he can’t help but want to know.” Sleepiness washed over her, and Wen Han yawned. “I wonder if my dad has found a suitable family for the child yet.”

Wen Qingke suddenly called and asked Wen Han if she was with Jing Yu.

Wen Han took the phone directly from Jing Yu's hand: "What's wrong?"

"Wen Han, why don't you stay at your classmate's house for the night?"

Something's not right. Wen Qingke is most afraid of children causing trouble for others, so why would he take the initiative to let him stay at the Jing family's house?

"Okay, I understand." Wen Han hung up the phone and then said, "There's definitely something fishy going on. I have to go back right away."

Someone was watching Douyin (TikTok) on the roadside. Wen Han usually finds such loud music annoying, but the content sounded increasingly familiar, so she stopped him.

"Grandpa, what case are you listening to?"

"Aren't you from Linjin? How come you don't know about this?" the old man said in surprise. "It's a crime of passion. It seems to have happened last Friday, but it was only revealed today. I heard that the woman killed the man and then committed suicide by jumping into the river."

Wen Han's breath hitched: "Wasn't she in jail?"

"What jail time? I heard the bodies were already cremated when they were recovered."

-----------------------

Author's Note: I saw some readers asking why Zhang Huihui didn't receive any substantial punishment. Being a minor is one factor. The worst thing he did to Wen Han was spreading rumors, and because of his low intelligence, he failed twice. Legally, it's difficult to sentence him to jail. This kind of person is like a cockroach—annoying but not very harmful. Besides, Wen Han isn't a high-ranking official like Gu Cheng. A direct revenge against Zhang Huihui would be a good beating, while a more indirect one would be having Lin He manipulate Zhang Huihui's feelings. The level of Tian Liang and Wang Po is unrealistic for a high school student from an ordinary family like Wen Han. Therefore, his punishment is losing friendships, studies, and love. He's truly been ruined by his phone and his love-struck mind. Wen Han's request for his father to take away his phone was a good deed; without it, he could at least avoid half the trouble.

Zhang Huihui has thus exited the story. His original role was merely to introduce important supporting characters and plot points. As for him personally, his impression of the overall plot is even less than that of the person upstairs in post #703 [doge head with rose]. Besides him, another important character is also temporarily exiting the story [glasses].
