Chapter 24 Interrogation

Chapter 24 Interrogation

Xu Niannian was taken into the interrogation room of the police station by Public Security Wang.

Wang Gongan looked at Xu Niannian with a serious face. He first asked for basic information and then began to inquire, "Are you an accomplice of human traffickers?"

Xu Niannian looked terrified and said, "I'm not! How could I be an accomplice of human traffickers? I'm just a student." After saying that, she began to sob.

Seeing her trembling with fear, Public Security Wang hesitated a little, but when he thought of the child criminals in other cases, he endured it and continued the interrogation.

"Then why did you drag Wen Zhu into the alley after school last Friday afternoon? What was your purpose in doing so?"

"I heard someone crying for help, so I rushed to the alley entrance, hoping to emulate the spirit of Lei Feng and do some good deeds. But I saw an old man clutching his stomach in pain, and I, a little girl, knew I couldn't possibly help him, so I thought about going to find someone to help. Wen happened to be passing by, so I asked her to look after him while I went to call for help. I didn't realize it was the traffickers. After I ran out, I happened to glance over and saw someone covering her mouth and nose. I realized it was a bad guy. But I was too scared to go back and save her. I was so terrified I just ran home. When I got home, my younger brother started bullying me again, so I took him to town to buy some candy to appease him. After we had the candy, we went to sell some buns. But when I got back, he was gone. I was even more terrified. If my mother knew I'd lost my brother, she'd beat me to death. I searched for him for a while, but couldn't find him, so I hid back in the school dormitory. I've been trembling with fear these past few days. This is what happened, Public Security Comrade. I really didn't lie!"

As he spoke, tears silently flowed down his pale and thin face, making him look particularly pitiful.

Wang Gongan didn't believe her tears. Instead, he immediately asked, "You were so scared just now, so why did you explain everything to me so quickly and fluently almost immediately without even thinking? I have every reason to suspect you must have planned your words in advance, perhaps even practiced them in your mind many times! Isn't that right?"

Wang Gongan's eyes were sharp, and he didn't miss any of Xu Niannian's subtle expressions.

Seeing the shock on her face, she seemed to not understand how her fluent speech could arouse the suspicion of the police.

But she was reborn with great difficulty, avoiding the tragic fate of her previous life, and she didn't want to spend this life in prison.

So her tears fell, but her heart was already in a mess.

"I didn't, I didn't." She repeated these words numbly and horrifiedly.

The female police officer who was taking notes nearby glanced at her and said, "Talk properly!"

Wang Gongan already knew the answer and moved on to the next question. "Since you saw Wen Zhu being abducted, why didn't you immediately shout for help at the entrance of the alley? There were so many people on the street, and even if you couldn't save Wen Zhu, you could still protect yourself. But you chose to run home, and then came to town. This is illogical. Even if you didn't ask for help, a normal person's first reaction would be to report the case to the police station. Why didn't you report it immediately?"

When he got excited, Wang Gongan slammed the table and stood up, staring at Xu Niannian.

Xu Niannian cried and insisted that she was too scared at the time and could not think calmly and rationally.

Later, I became more and more scared and reported the case.

No matter how much I asked her later, she just cried and I couldn't get anything out of her.

Officer Wang, the police officer, had no choice but to gather evidence and visit local neighborhoods. However, it was during business hours, and the investigation reached a stalemate. They could only wait for the results of the interrogation of the traffickers before applying for access.

His instincts as a police officer told him that this girl was more than just a joke. He never believed in excessive coincidences. Wen Zhu and Xu Yaozu, who had come into contact with her, had both been captured by the same group of human traffickers. Too many coincidences were signs of a crime.

But the girl could only be held at the Public Security Bureau for a maximum of twelve hours. Without evidence, they couldn't arrest her, especially since she was a minor. Public Security Officer Wang sighed helplessly.

Imprisoned, Xu Niannian crouched on the ground, hugging her legs. She appeared quiet and asleep, but in reality, she was brainwashing herself. In her past life, she'd seen a TV show where she could convince herself deeply by constantly giving herself hints. Only when she believed something with all her heart could she convince others. So, she began to brainwash herself again and again: "I'm innocent. I've done nothing wrong. Wen Zhu was abducted by human traffickers. I was just lucky to escape..."

——

Wen Zhu felt that living in school was safe, but inconvenient. For example, the little patient outside might be cursing her in her heart for being untrustworthy.

So she went straight to the principal to ask for leave, saying that she needed to see a patient. Anyway, the principal already knew that she had medical skills, so there was no need to beat around the bush.

The principal agreed readily, and hinted to Wen Zhu, both explicitly and covertly, that if she was interviewed by reporters, she should not forget to say good things about the school.

Wen Zhu left school at five in the afternoon and made sure to come back before lights out at night.

As soon as I left the house, I bought some snacks that students often buy at the convenience store at the door.

At this moment, Qian Xusen, who was almost getting scared after staying in this shabby guesthouse in this desolate town for two days, was cursing Wen Zhu in his heart for being conscienceless and untrustworthy.

I promised to take good care of him, but I left him here alone and disappeared. But the school doesn't allow anyone except students and teachers to enter.

Just as the old man was about to lose his temper when he was asked to go out for a walk again and was refused by the bodyguard, Wen Zhu chatted with Brother Zhang at the door for a few words and knocked on the door. Then he appeared in front of him with an extremely bright smile.

He was very angry when he didn't see anyone, but now that someone was here, he turned his face away, lay on the bed, and pretended not to see.

"Have you applied the medicine on time these past two days, Qian Xusen?"

"Student Qian?"

After calling her several times, he just lay with his back to her, not answering or looking at her, closing his eyes and pretending to be asleep.

It's obvious that he's sulking.

It makes sense.

Wen Zhu understood that it was just a matter of coaxing her.

It was the same principle as when she coaxed her master after causing trouble in her previous life. One was old, the other was young, so she could just draw inferences from one instance.

Wen Zhu took out the snacks he bought on the way, walked around the bed and stood in front of him, putting the things in front of him.

"Here, this is for you. I bought it especially for you. I only eat pickles and multi-grain porridge at school every day, and I can't bear to eat it."

Qian Xusen moved his eyes.

But I can't forgive her so easily, otherwise she will be like his father, who forgot about him after he had a stepmother, and always said she was too busy with work when she promised him, and in the end, none of it counted.

"But since we're here, I might as well show you your legs."

Having said that, she ignored the tsundere boy's awkwardness, tapped and asked him if it hurt, and began to check with swift movements.

I took his pulse again and was relieved to see that he was recovering well.

During this process, the boy didn't say anything except simply "It hurts, it doesn't hurt, no."

"You really don't want the things? If you don't want them, I'll take them. I have to go back to school tonight, and there are a lot of bad guys on the road at night. I'm just a weak little girl. If I run into a kidnapper again, you'll never see me again. But forget it. Since you're still angry, you probably won't care whether I live or die, even though we've been friends through life and death together."

As he was about to reach out to take the snack, the boy snatched it away and stuffed it into his pocket.

"You gave it to me, and you want to take it back? I'll kill you with my digging."

"So, are you coaxed into it? Are we still friends?"

"I don't need your comfort. Only children need comfort. I'm not a brat!"
