Chapter 28 Mom, it's not what you think.
The next morning, Xia Qianqian woke up noticeably later than usual.
She opened her eyes and saw the light coming in from the window. She knew something was wrong and quickly threw off the covers and sat up.
I hurriedly dressed and washed up, feeling a little embarrassed, afraid of keeping the Lu family waiting.
As soon as she stepped out of the room, she heard her mother's gentle voice coming from the main room: "Qianqian, you're up? Come and eat quickly, the porridge is still warm."
"Coming!" Xia Qianqian replied, quickening her pace and quickly combing her hair before arriving at the dining table a few minutes later.
Looking at the faint dark circles under her eyes, Lu's mother asked with concern, "Qianqian, did you not sleep well last night?"
"No, no..." Xia Qianqian quickly waved her hand, her cheeks flushing. How could she dare tell her mother-in-law that she had been dreaming about Lu Zheng all night, which kept her from sleeping soundly and caused her to have all sorts of wild thoughts.
Just then, Lu Zheng walked in from outside. He had just returned from working in the fields and still carried the scent of the morning earth. Xia Qianqian quickly lowered her head, but just then, Lu Zheng's gaze fell upon her.
Their eyes met, and Xia Qianqian remembered the steel gun again, her face turning even redder. Lu Zheng, as if burned, looked away in a fluster, but a blush crept up his ears.
Lu's mother witnessed everything. She was taken aback at first, then, as if realizing something, she couldn't help but exclaim in surprise, "Oh my, you two children..."
Seeing Lu's mother's knowing smile, Xia Qianqian's cheeks flushed crimson, and she hurriedly waved her hands, explaining, "Mom, it's not what you think, it really isn't..."
Er Ya was puzzled and tilted her head curiously to look at Xia Qianqian, blinking her clear big eyes, not understanding why Aunt Xia's face suddenly turned so red.
She was about to ask a question when her maidservant quickly covered her mouth and eyes, dragging and carrying her back to the inner room, leaving behind a series of "woof woof" protests.
Seeing Daya's "sensible" reaction, Xia Qianqian felt even more embarrassed and ashamed. She didn't even dare to lift her head, let alone look at Lu's mother's expression.
She really wanted to stand up and shout: It's not what you think!
Lu's mother glared at her son fiercely, thinking, "That brat!"
She never expected that Lu Zheng would lose his temper even in the last two days! He's really... too impulsive! Sigh, in the end it's all her fault. She didn't properly remind her son yesterday, and Qianqian suffered.
Mrs. Lu sighed, ignored Xia Qianqian's explanation, and hurriedly went to the kitchen again.
Only Xia Qianqian and Lu Zheng remained in the main room. The air seemed to quiet down, and their breathing could be clearly heard.
Xia Qianqian lowered her head, wishing she could bury it in the bowl to hide her embarrassment. But the more anxious she was, the more likely she was to make a mistake. She drank too quickly and choked on the porridge, coughing violently.
"Cough cough cough!"
Lu Zheng quickly handed over the water glass. Xia Qianqian reached out to take it, but her hand trembled, and the water in the glass spilled all over him.
The scene from before instantly flashed through her mind, and Xia Qianqian couldn't help but steal a glance, which made her blush and her heart race even more!
Meanwhile, the comments in my mind exploded.
The screen was filled with comments like "Ahhh, my ears are so red, that's me!" "Let me do it!" "Lu Zheng's ears are red too! There's definitely something going on between these two!", mixed with various mischievous "hehehe" emojis, making her temples throb.
What's even more troublesome is that the girls are always stirring up trouble, bombarding us with all sorts of "science popularization" indiscriminately, including words she'd never even heard of before.
Xia Qianqian's head was buzzing, and her cheeks were so hot they could fry an egg on them—she now knew everything she should and shouldn't know.
Although she prided herself on being lustful, she genuinely lacked knowledge about these physiological aspects. In her mother's words, "Once you get married, you'll know everything." Now, being forced to learn about these things by so many people, she watched Lu Zheng's reaction and wished she could disappear into a crack in the ground right then and there.
I cursed those "big yellow girls" in the comments a hundred times in my mind, but I couldn't help but blush and secretly read through each of the "science popularization" messages again.
"Qianqian, are you alright?" Lu Zheng quickly picked up the water glass on the table and held it to her lips, while placing his other hand on her back and gently patting her to help her catch her breath.
He leaned down slightly, his long arm wrapping around her side, as if he were half-encircling her in his arms. Lu's mother saw this clearly from the kitchen doorway, silently turned around, and added another red-skinned egg to the pot that was boiling.
She secretly made up her mind that she would find an opportunity to give Lu Zheng a good talking-to tonight.
Young people are full of vigor, and when their feelings are intense, they inevitably lose control. She understands all of this, and she doesn't mean to break them up. But health is a precious asset, and they can't just act on impulse without restraint! Qianqian can't withstand his antics.
Lu's mother brought a plate of red-skinned eggs to Xia Qianqian and said, "Qianqian, eat some eggs and nourish yourself."
Xia Qianqian's gaze fell on the eggs, and she couldn't help but let out a soft "hiss." In the eyes of the older generation, these red-shelled eggs were a highly nourishing food for women in postpartum confinement. Now that Lu's mother had brought out these eggs, it was clear that she had misunderstood and thought something had happened between her and Lu Zheng.
She wrinkled her nose and glanced at Lu Zheng out of the corner of her eye, signaling him to quickly explain things to Lu's mother.
To her surprise, after receiving her signal, Lu Zheng calmly took the egg, skillfully peeled it with his fingers, and handed it to her, saying, "It's peeled."
Xia Qianqian held the egg, unsure of what to do with her hands. If she ate it, it would confirm Lu's mother's suspicions; if she didn't eat it, she was afraid of hurting Lu's mother's feelings.
She bit her lip and mustered her courage to say to Lu's mother, "Mom, we really didn't do anything yesterday, please don't misunderstand."
Lu's mother gave a meaningful smile, thinking to herself: Young people are shy and easily embarrassed, she understands.
There was no way to explain it anymore, so Xia Qianqian decided to just give up and not explain anymore. As long as I'm not embarrassed, it's others who are embarrassed.
Holding the egg, she tried her best to remain calm, took a deep breath, and said in a deliberately composed manner, "I'm going to catch my ride."
"Be careful on the road," Lu's mother reminded him, but her gaze kept darting back and forth between Xia Qianqian and Lu Zheng until Xia Qianqian had walked away before she said to her son, "Come here, I need to talk to you about something."
Sitting in the team's car, Xia Qianqian recalled what had just happened, thinking to herself: I'm such a coward. I haven't even done anything yet, and I'm already blushing and my heart is pounding because of last night's dream. No, no, I have to get my revenge tonight.
