Chapter 33 Huang Zhaodi is up to her old tricks again
While Xia Qianqian and Lu Zheng were enjoying a sweet time together, Huang Zhaodi was crying and lying on the kang table, refusing to get up.
Seeing her daughter's state, Liu Xiao'e was both anxious and angry, and couldn't help but scold, "You stubborn fool! Lu Zheng doesn't even care about you, why are you still so fixated on him? We can't hang ourselves on one tree!"
"No! I want Lu Zheng, I want him!" Huang Zhaodi cried until her eyes were swollen like two ripe peaches.
Seeing her daughter like this, Liu Xiao'e felt a little resentful, but she still took a hot water towel and handed it to her daughter, saying, "Quickly cover your eyes, otherwise when you go out to work tomorrow, those gossipy people will talk you to death, and who knows what nasty things they'll say!"
At this point, Liu Xiao'e's eyes lit up, and a plan came to her mind.
"Zhaodi, why don't you go stay at your uncle's house for a few days? That way you can avoid trouble tomorrow."
Actually, she had another plan in mind. Her younger brother, Liu Danian, had mentioned before that he wanted to find a husband for their daughter in Liushu Village. At that time, she was reluctant to let her daughter marry far away, so she didn't agree.
Now that Lu Zheng's offer is hopeless, going to Willow Tree Village might be an opportunity. Perhaps they can find a good husband for their daughter, which is much better than watching Lu Zheng get together with someone else.
"Okay." Huang Zhaodi felt a chill run down her spine at the thought of the villagers pointing and whispering about her, so she quickly nodded and agreed to go to her uncle's house to avoid the storm.
The mother and daughter hurriedly packed their things and set off for Willow Village. An hour later, they finally arrived at Willow Village.
As they passed by the youth center in Liushu Village, they saw a group of energetic young men and women chatting and laughing inside, exuding youthful vitality.
Looking at them, Huang Zhaodi couldn't help but think of Xia Qianqian, and she was instantly filled with rage. She spat on the ground and cursed viciously, "A bunch of bastards!"
Just then, Wang Xueying came out carrying a basin to pour water and heard the curse clearly.
She raised her eyebrows, a flash of anger in her eyes, and demanded loudly, "What did you say?!"
Huang Zhaodi took a closer look and saw that Wang Xueying was also fair-skinned and looked like a city person. She was even more furious: "Hmph, you city people are just like Xia Qianqian, you are all vixens!"
Wang Xueying was about to get angry, but when she heard the name "Xia Qianqian," her heart skipped a beat, and her anger subsided a bit.
She frowned slightly and asked, "Are you from Xiangyang Village? Did Xia Qianqian do something wrong?"
Upon hearing this, Huang Zhaodi seemed to have found an outlet for her venting. She put her hands on her hips and embellished the story of how Xia Qianqian "shamelessly" stole her man.
Wang Xueying never expected that Xia Qianqian would find a high-quality partner so soon after arriving in the countryside.
Look at them, and then look at yourself! She's been working hard at this educated youth settlement for so long, and those male educated youths are like they're blind; not one of them pays any attention to her.
Normally, she would whine and plead to get people to do some hard or tiring work for her, but those people were as unmoved as stones. Thinking of this, Wang Xueying felt a surge of jealousy, like a spilled jar of vinegar.
She looked at Huang Zhaodi. Although she looked down on this plain-looking country girl from the bottom of her heart, at this moment, she felt as if she had found a comrade-in-arms to fight alongside her.
She warmly took Huang Zhaodi's hand, pulled her under a big tree, and started chatting intimately with her with a big smile on her face.
Upon hearing the news revealed by Wang Xueying, Huang Zhaodi's eyes widened like saucers: "What? She actually has a lover in the city?"
Wang Xueying nodded, a sly glint in her eyes.
Liu Xiao'e saw all of this, and she knew that this girl was using them as pawns.
Just as he was about to stop his daughter, Huang Zhaodi suddenly stood up with a mocking expression, and said indignantly, "Xueying, I must expose her evil deeds in front of Brother Lu! Let Brother Lu see her true colors!"
Huang Zhaodi became more and more agitated and couldn't listen to Liu Xiao'e's words at all. She started walking back.
"Zhaodi, Zhaodi, wait for me!" Liu Xiao'e called out from behind, but she was getting old and her legs weren't as nimble as a young person's. She ran all the way, panting heavily, and finally caught up with her daughter.
"Mom, why are you stopping me!" Huang Zhaodi's eyes were full of impatience. "I need to hurry up and let everyone in the village see what kind of person Xia Qianqian really is!"
Her face was full of excitement, as if she could already see Xia Qianqian being kicked out of the Lu family and her reputation ruined.
Liu Xiao'e grabbed her arm: "Zhao Di, you can't be so rash. Even if you confront Xia Qianqian, do you have any evidence? Without proof, who will believe you?"
Upon hearing this, Huang Zhaodi slowed her pace, a hint of hesitation flashing in her eyes.
Seeing that she had taken it to heart, Liu Xiao'e was secretly pleased and continued, "If you go and say it so rashly, how can Lu Zheng believe you? In the end, you'll only alert him and make Xia Qianqian wary. Wouldn't all your efforts be for nothing?"
"What are we going to do?!" Huang Zhaodi exclaimed anxiously, stamping her feet. "I finally got such important information, and I can't do anything to Xia Qianqian? This is so frustrating!"
Suddenly, Huang Zhaodi's eyes lit up, and a brilliant idea flashed into her mind. She leaned close to Liu Xiao'e's ear, lowered her voice, and told her her idea.
After Huang Zhaodi finished speaking, Liu Xiao'e said, "Your idea is indeed good, but it takes a bit too long. They are getting married soon, and following this plan, it may not be enough time."
"What should we do then?" Huang Zhaodi was so anxious that she stamped her feet. She didn't want to watch Xia Qianqian marry Lu Zheng. That would be worse than death for her.
"You get ready here, and Mom will think of other ways for you."
Seeing her daughter so obsessed with Lu Zheng, Liu Xiao'e felt both heartache and helplessness.
She thought to herself that her daughter liked Lu Zheng to the core, and as her mother, she had to do her best to help her. She couldn't just stand by and watch her daughter be sad and upset.
As Liu Xiao'e mentally formulated her plan, she returned to Xiangyang Village with her daughter.
She stood at the village entrance, her gaze fixed on the Lu family's courtyard, muttering to herself: I'm not a bad person, I was just forced into this situation. Blame Xia Qianqian for her bad luck; who told her to get in my Zhaodi's way?
The next day, Liu Xiao'e told Huang Zhaodi to rest at home and walked alone toward the brigade's grain depot.
Upon arriving at the granary, the old bachelor Lao Wu, who guarded it, was sitting idly in the sun by the entrance. The moment he saw Liu Xiao'e, his small eyes lit up, and he quickly stood up, smiling, "Xiao'e, what brings you here?"
Liu Xiao'e said, "I need your help with something."
Upon hearing this, the fifth brother's eyes narrowed into slits with a smile. He reached out to Liu Xiao'e with ill intent, saying, "Help, just tell me how you want to help and I'll help you."
