Chapter 227: Left?

Xi Mufan rested for three days in the Dahewan Production Brigade.

After recovering from his illness, he carried a simple bundle of luggage and pushed open the door to the office of Captain Che Wang.

Che Wang was writing something with his head down when he looked up and saw it was him. He was stunned for a moment, "Mu Fan? You're better? What happened to you...?"

Xi Mufan put his luggage down at his feet and said calmly, "Uncle Che Wang, I'm here to get some certificates. I've accepted the spot for further studies at the Capital Medical College. Could you please help me with a letter of introduction and proof of transfer for my household registration and grain ration certificate?"

Che Wang put down his pen, stood up, his face showing genuine surprise and regret. "You...you really decided to go back? That's great! Fantastic! But...you and that girl Baiyun..."

He sighed heavily, "Alas, what a pity, what a real pity!"

Xi Mufan's face remained expressionless, as if he hadn't heard the name "Baiyun" at all! "Uncle, everyone has their own choices, there's nothing to regret. If she needs help while I'm away, I hope you and Auntie can lend a hand. Please issue the necessary certificate, I'm in a hurry."

Looking at his bloodless face and the coldness in his eyes, Che Wang sighed again and nodded, "Alright...alright! It's good that you've come to your senses! Going back to the capital and going to university is the right path! Uncle is happy for you!"

As he pulled open a drawer to find the official seal and letter paper, he sighed, "It's been almost seven years... Mu Fan, your uncle and aunt truly treat you like their own child..."

"I know!" Xi Mufan bowed to him. "Uncle, thank you and Aunt for taking care of me all these years. I will always remember it."

Che Wang's eyes were slightly red. He said no more and buried his head in writing the letter of introduction and stamping it.

...

After leaving the production brigade, Xi Mufan went straight to the commune director's office.

Chen Jianhui looked at the brigade certificate and relocation application handed over by Xi Mufan, and then looked up at the terrifyingly silent young man in front of him.

He sighed inwardly.

He picked up the official seal and stamped it heavily on the migration certificate, making a dull "click" sound.

"All the paperwork is complete." Chen Jianhui handed the stamped migration certificate to Xi Mufan, hesitated for a moment, and then said earnestly, "Mufan, you're back in the capital now. Study hard, you have a bright future ahead of you. Let bygones be bygones. People always have to look forward."

Xi Mufan took the migration certificate, stuffed it into his bag without even glancing at it, and gave a gentle smile as usual. "Thank you, Director. I will. Thank you for your help over the years. If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."

He turned around, opened the door without looking back, and walked out.

Chen Jianhui stared at the closed door, sighed deeply, and muttered to himself, "That silly girl Baiyun... why did she have to do this... such a good boy, so many women would love to hold onto him tightly! Sigh..."

...

Xi Mufan has already bought the train tickets.

After leaving the commune, he went directly to the train station.

They got into the car shortly afterward.

With a long whistle, the green train, puffing out thick smoke, slowly started moving.

Xi Mufan sat by the window, staring blankly at the rapidly receding platform and blurry figures outside, his face expressionless, like a lifeless sculpture.

He didn't look back at the land where he had lived for nearly seven years, nor at the people and things on it.

Behind a thick concrete pillar at the end of the platform, Baiyun covered her mouth tightly, tears streaming down her face like broken beads, her body trembling violently from the suppressed sobs.

She watched the carriage carrying Xi Mufan grow farther and farther away until it disappeared from sight. Finally, she couldn't hold on any longer and slid down the pillar to the cold ground, curling up into a ball and crying her heart out, like a child abandoned by the whole world.

......

Meanwhile, He Yanzhi finally arrived at his destination.

In front of a simple bungalow in the family quarters of Dinglan Farm, Yunnan.

The jeep came to a stop, kicking up dust.

The car door opened, and Guan Wenru was the first to rush out. She immediately saw her parents standing at the door of the low earthen house, wearing faded old work clothes and with weathered faces.

Guan Yuanxiu and Qin Yue.

"Dad! Mom!"

Guan Wenru's voice was choked with sobs as she rushed forward like an arrow and tightly embraced her mother, Qin Yue.

Qin Yue's tears instantly burst forth as she tightly hugged her daughter, her voice choked with sobs, "Wenru! I've finally seen her... I've finally seen her!"

Guan Wenru reached out and hugged Guan Yuanxiu, who was standing beside her, sobbing uncontrollably, "Dad! Your daughter missed you so much!"

Guan Yuanxiu's eyes were red-rimmed as he patted his daughter's back forcefully, his voice hoarse, "Good child! Seeing that you are all well, Dad is relieved!"

The adults were crying their eyes out, and the three little ones who had just been carried out of the car by He Yan were stunned by the scene.

In just a moment, the three of them pouted, and Da Bao took the lead, bursting into tears and rushing towards Guan Wenru, crying, "Mommy! Mommy, hug me, don't cry!"

Erbao and Xiaobao immediately followed suit, tears streaming down their faces, stretching out their little hands towards Guan Wenru, crying their hearts out.

"Mommy! Hug my baby!"

"Mother!"

He Yanzhi was both amused and exasperated, and quickly tried to comfort her, "Big baby, second baby, little baby, be good. Mommy is hugging Grandpa and Grandma, how about Daddy hugs you?"

"I don't want Daddy! I want Mommy!"

The three little heads shook like rattles, and they cried even harder, kicking their little feet wildly, trying to get down and find their mother.

Guan Wenru was brought back to her senses by the children's cries. She quickly wiped her face, turned around while crying and laughing, squatted down and opened her arms, "Don't cry, don't cry! Mommy's here! Come on, all of you!"

The triplets immediately broke free from He Yanzhi and rushed into Guan Wenru's arms like three little cannonballs, hugging her neck and arms tightly, their little faces red from crying, sobbing aggrievedly.
