Seeing that Baiyun was unaware of her problem, she thought it was just an upset stomach.
Guan Wenru did not point it out immediately.
After the family had breakfast, Guan Wenru put schoolbags on her three children's backs.
She crouched down and checked the backpack straps of the triplets one by one, "Dabao, Erbao, Xiaobao, are your books and pencil cases in there?"
Da Bao nodded, his little hands gripping the backpack strap tightly. "Yes, Mom, after school... will you really be home?"
Guan Wenru patted Da Bao's head and said gently, "Of course I'll be there. After dropping you off, Mom will go to the factory and come home to wait for you as soon as I get off work, just like before, Mom promises."
Erbao's eyes were still a little red. "Then...then pinky promise!"
Guan Wenru chuckled, then extended her little finger and made a pinky promise with each of the three children. "Pinky promise, never to be broken for a hundred years! Mom keeps her word. Come on, Mom and Auntie will take you to school."
When they arrived at the school gate, Guan Wenru patted the three children's bottoms and said, "Hurry up and go in, you're going to be late."
Xiao Bao hugged his mother's leg one last time, saying, "Goodbye, Mom!"
Guan Wenru: "Goodbye, my darlings, study hard!"
Guan Wenru watched the triplets walk into the school gate, turning back every few steps, until they disappeared from sight before turning around herself.
Baiyun was already waiting by the roadside with her bicycle.
"Sister, come on up, I'll take you to the factory."
Guan Wenru didn't get into the car immediately. She looked around and her gaze fell on a large locust tree not far away. "Xiaoyun, don't rush to leave. Come here, I have something to ask you."
"???" Bai Yun pushed the cart in confusion and followed Guan Wenru to the shade of the locust tree.
This place is relatively secluded.
Guan Wenru turned around, looked directly at Bai Yun, her eyes sharp, "Xiao Yun, tell me the truth, you and Xi Mufan... are you two... already together?"
Although it wasn't explicitly said, Baiyun understood. Her face flushed red, her eyes darted around nervously, and her voice instantly softened, "Sister! Why...why are you asking this! This...how can I explain this..."
Guan Wenru stared intently at Bai Yun's face, which flushed red and then turned away in panic. She became even more certain. "Look at your reaction! You're pregnant! Aren't you?"
Bai Yun's hair drooped even lower, her fingers twisting the hem of her clothes, her voice barely audible, "Sister...you...you shouldn't ask anymore...this...this is all in the past..."
After confirming, Guan Wenru looked worried. "Get through? I'm afraid you can't! Have you been feeling tired lately, craving sour foods? Have you had a poor appetite? And do you feel nauseous from time to time?"
"!" Bai Yun suddenly looked up, her face turning from red to white, staring at Guan Wenru in shock, her lips trembling as she couldn't utter a word.
Clearly, she had also considered a certain possibility.
Guan Wenru grabbed her wrist. "Tell me honestly, has your period started this month?"
Baiyun seemed to be nailed to the spot, her eyes wide open, filled with unbelievable fear.
The bicycle handlebars slipped from her limp hands and crashed to the ground with a 'bang'.
Her voice trembled, choked with sobs, "It seems...it seems like it was delayed for a long time, sister...you mean I...I..."
The thought of a certain possibility made Baiyun tremble uncontrollably, her voice trembling with sobs and immense panic:
"Sister... I... what should I do? If people find out, I'm finished! My parents and brother will beat me to death! The factory... the factory will too..."
"Don't panic!" Guan Wenru interrupted her panic with a serious expression, her voice low and firm, "We haven't reached the end of the road yet! I'm asking you, haven't you received a reply to the letters you sent to Xi Mufan? Not a single one?"
Large tears rolled down Baiyun's face as she shook her head frantically. "No! Not a single one! I... I went to the factory's mailroom several times, and I also went to the town's post office... but there was nothing... He... he must hate me to death!"
He definitely won't forgive me... He definitely thinks I... think I'm making a fool of him...
Towards the end, her voice was almost drowned out by sobs.
Guan Wenru pursed her lips, her eyes filled with complex emotions. After a moment of silence, she finally spoke, "Anyone would feel aggrieved in this situation. What you did back then was indeed hurtful, and I can understand why he was angry."
Hearing her sister say the same thing, Baiyun's despair deepened. "Then...then I..."
"Stop crying!" Guan Wenru took a deep breath, her eyes hardening again, and gripped Bai Yun's cold, trembling hand even tighter. "Crying won't solve anything! The most important thing now is to figure out what's going on and find him! If you can't get in touch with him, I'll figure something out!"
Baiyun's eyes were filled with confusion yet held a faint glimmer of hope. "Sister, what...what can you do?"
“Knowing he’s at Capital Medical University… Xi Mufan can disappear into thin air; as long as he’s still at that school, we can always find him! I’ll ask your brother-in-law tonight to try and get his phone number there, and I’ll talk to him about it.”
Bai Yun's emotions were extremely complicated. Fear, shame, a little unease about Xi Mufan's reaction, and dependence on her sister made it almost impossible for her to speak a complete sentence.
"Sister... thank you, but... but if he really doesn't want to forgive me, I'll bear the consequences myself."
Guan Wenru: "..."
She almost laughed in anger. "Baiyun, you better remember this. I'll only say this to you once: life is short, don't be too sensible, and don't easily become someone's 'savior'!"
Constantly trying to please others or carrying too much burden will only fill your life with suffering and distort your personality. Be yourself, do what's best for yourself, and live authentically—that's the only way to make the most of your life!
Bai Yun stared blankly at Guan Wenru, speechless for a long time.
Guan Wenru didn't want to lecture anyone. Baiyun was her sister, and she was stuck in a dead end, so she said a few extra words.
