Guan Wenru helped He Yanzhi to sit down on the kang (a heated brick bed) in the living room and said irritably, "You sit down first, I'll go prepare breakfast. After you finish eating, you need to go to the medical team to check your wound and apply the medicine if necessary."
He Yanzhi looked at her feigned anger and chuckled, "Okay."
Just then, the triplets were awakened by the commotion outside. They rubbed their eyes and came out of the inner room.
Upon seeing He Yanzhi sitting on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), the three little ones' eyes lit up instantly, and they cheered and rushed over as usual, shouting, "Daddy! Daddy's back!"
Guan Wenru quickly spread her arms to stop them, "Hey! Don't rush! Slow down! Your father is injured, you can't touch him!"
The triplets suddenly stopped in their tracks, their little faces instantly filled with tension and fear.
Her eyes were wide open as she stared at her father's pale face and his left shoulder, which he dared not move.
With a sob in his voice, He Sheng asked, "Dad...where does it hurt? Are you bleeding?"
He Yanzhi waved to them with his uninjured right hand and gave them a reassuring smile. "It's okay, Daddy's not in pain anymore. Come here and let Daddy see you. You seem to have grown taller in the few days I haven't seen you."
The three children cautiously approached and surrounded their father's legs, no longer daring to climb on him as they used to.
Suddenly, as if struck by a sudden thought, He Yi turned and ran to the table.
He stood on tiptoe and struggled to lift a glass of water. "Dad, have some water!"
He Qi also realized what was happening, ran to pick up her glass of milk that she hadn't drunk that morning, and carefully held it to He Yanzhi's lips, looking very serious, "Daddy, drink your milk! It will make you feel better!"
Seeing this, He Sheng hurriedly went to find his own cup.
Watching the children awkwardly and eagerly express their concern, Guan Wenru and He Yanzhi couldn't help but laugh.
He Yanzhi took a small sip of milk from He Qi's hand, then patted each of their little heads with his right hand:
"Alright, alright, Dad has had his drink. He's fine. He'll be alright after a few days of rest. You all hurry up and wash up, eat your breakfast, get dressed, and go to school."
Guan Wenru raised an eyebrow. "Yes, listen to your father, eat your food quickly, drink your milk yourself, and let your father rest quietly for a while."
The triplets then obediently went to wash up.
Bai Yun also came out of the room at this time. She had heard the conversation of the family of five inside, so she knew that He Yanzhi was injured.
After she came out, she asked her brother-in-law a few questions and was relieved to find that he didn't seem to have any serious problems.
After everyone washed up, they ate breakfast together.
The triplets kept glancing at He Yanzhi while eating, and all three of them appeared unusually quiet and well-behaved.
After they had eaten, Baiyun took the initiative to lead the triplets out.
She first took the triplets to school, and then went to the factory with her older sister after she returned.
She's just sensible; she knows her sister and brother-in-law have been separated for so many days, and she knows they need some alone time.
After Baiyun left with the triplets, the house became quiet.
Guan Wenru wanted to tidy up the things on the table, but He Yanzhi gently pulled her with his uninjured right hand, bringing her to sit in front of him and making her sit sideways on his right leg.
Guan Wenru: "..."
Before she could say anything, He Yanzhi gently pinched her chin with his fingers, looking at her with deep eyes, "Have you missed me these days?"
"!" Guan Wenru's cheeks flushed slightly. She glanced worriedly at his left shoulder. "Let go of me, stop fooling around... your injury hasn't healed yet... be careful not to pull it..."
Before she could finish speaking, He Yanzhi had already lowered his head and kissed her.
The kiss, imbued with an undeniable force and the longing of these past days of separation, instantly drowned out Guan Wenru's feeble struggles.
At first, she was stiff, afraid of touching his wound, but she quickly softened in his familiar scent and burning kisses, her arms unconsciously wrapping around his neck, responding awkwardly and eagerly.
Their lips intertwined, their breaths mingled, as if they were pouring all the worries and fears of the past few days into their breath.
When they were both out of breath, He Yanzhi stepped back slightly, his forehead pressed against hers, his breathing heavy.
Her voice was low and husky, tinged with amusement, "Looks like you missed me."
"!" Guan Wenru's cheeks flushed red, her breath unsteady, and she playfully punched his right shoulder lightly, "You're injured and still not behaving yourself!"
He Yanzhi nuzzled her nose with his own, "Seeing you makes me feel much better."
He lowered his head again, gently taking her lips into his mouth and pecking at them tenderly.
Guan Wenru closed her eyes, completely immersed in his rare tenderness and the deep affection she felt after surviving a calamity, letting him lead the rhythm.
The lingering kiss paused briefly, and Guan Wenru, slightly out of breath, gently touched the bandage on He Yanzhi's left shoulder with her fingers. Her brows furrowed again. "Now can you tell me the truth? What kind of mission was so dangerous? How did you get shot?"
He Yanzhi gently touched her slightly swollen lips with his right thumb, his tone light, "It's really nothing serious. I was just cooperating with the local police to crack down on a mobile criminal gang. Those guys were ruthless and put up a stubborn resistance. I was grazed by a stray bullet during the firefight. It's a minor incident. Your man has experienced much more dangerous situations than this."
Guan Wenru glared at him, "A stray bullet can hit your shoulder blade? Don't try to fool me!"
He Yanzhi smiled and downplayed the issue, "However, I completed this mission beautifully, and the higher-ups are very satisfied. I estimate that once my injury has healed, the order for commendation and promotion should be issued."
Guan Wenru's eyes lit up for a moment, then dimmed again. She leaned on his uninjured right shoulder and said, "A promotion is a good thing, and I'm happy for you... but I would rather you be safe and sound, without any injury! No amount of merit or position can buy you a healthy and whole life."
