Who are we?
The tall, thin man sneered, his gaze sweeping over the scarred man on the ground, clutching his leg and groaning, before returning to Guan Wenru. "Your man, He Yanzhi, ruined our plans. His son has to pay for this!"
"Stop talking nonsense and throw the gun away! Otherwise, I'll count to three, and you'll be collecting this brat's corpse!"
"Mommy! I'm scared!" He Sheng cried even harder, reaching out his little hands to grab Guan Wenru. "Mommy, please save me! This is a bad person! I want Daddy to beat the bad person to death!"
He Yi also mustered up his courage, peeked out from behind Guan Wenru, and shouted in a tearful voice, "Don't bully my brother! Let him go!"
He Qi was so frightened that he trembled all over, but he clung tightly to Guan Wenru's clothes and dared not let go.
People in the market had already heard the gunshots and were now pouring out.
There were peddlers carrying their wares, women who had just bought their goods, and waiters from a state-run restaurant. Everyone gathered not far away, and they were all stunned by what they saw!
Everyone was trembling and chattering amongst themselves, but no one dared to step forward easily.
"Isn't that Commander He's wife? What's going on?"
"Someone opened fire! And they kidnapped a child! What are they trying to do?"
"Quickly, go find someone! Find the officers at the police station! Find the military personnel!"
The murmurs from the crowd made the tall, thin man even more panicked. He pulled He Sheng closer to his chest, lowered the gun barrel further, and roared at Guan Wenru:
"Hurry up! Put the gun down! Didn't you hear me? I'll count to three! One!"
Guan Wenru tightened his grip on the gun, his knuckles turning white.
Looking at He Sheng's red, tear-filled eyes, at his outstretched little hand, and then at He Yi and He Qi, who were hiding behind him trembling with fear, her heart was in turmoil.
She cannot put down the gun; if she does, she and her four children will become lambs to the slaughter!
But if she doesn't put down her gun, He Sheng could be in danger at any moment!
"Two!" The tall, thin man's voice became even more urgent, cold sweat beading on his forehead, his eyes filled with madness.
He Sheng cried so hard he could hardly breathe, his little voice hoarse, "Mommy...I..."
Guan Wenru closed her eyes briefly, and when she opened them again, her eyes held a hint of determination.
She slowly bent down, seemingly to place the gun on the ground, but in that instant, she swiftly took a step to the side and forward, the muzzle still pointed at the tall, thin man's chest, her voice as cold as ice:
"If you dare lay a finger on my son, I'll risk my life to drag you down with me! You think you can get away? There are so many people watching in the market, the army will be here soon, you can't escape!"
The tall, thin man was taken aback by Guan Wenru's tough stance. He paused for a moment, then became even more aggressive. "You dare to play tricks? Believe me or not, I'll shoot right now!"
"Try shooting!" Guan Wenru said without backing down, her voice filled with a desperate resolve. "You killed my son, so even if I die today, I'll kill you first! Look at your accomplices, they've already fallen. Do you think you can escape with my son?"
As she spoke, she gestured with her eyes to those around her to hurry up and report the news.
A young peddler understood what she meant, quietly took two steps back, and then turned and ran towards the police station.
The tall, thin man noticed it too, and his heart raced with panic. But he gritted his teeth and clung tightly to He Sheng, refusing to let go. "Don't give me that crap! Put the gun down right now! Or I'll really shoot!"
He Sheng was still crying, but he slowly stopped struggling, only repeatedly calling out, "Mommy...Mommy..."
Guan Wenru almost burst into tears when she saw her son's pitiful appearance.
But she still endured it and continued to confront the tall, thin man!
She knew that every second she delayed meant a greater chance of success; the military or police would arrive soon.
