Guan Wenru didn't go directly to find Lin Wei; she continued looking for a location to open a shop.
When I got home, my parents had already prepared dinner.
Once everyone was gathered, they ate dinner first, and the faint aroma of food lingered in the courtyard.
Then Qin Yue and Guan Yuanxiu took the triplets to watch TV in the main room. A lively opera program was playing on the black and white screen, and the children watched with great interest.
However, Guan Wenru noticed that her younger brother, Guan Hongqi, seemed distracted during the meal, speaking very little and with a slightly furrowed brow, as if he had something on his mind.
She and He Yanzhi exchanged a glance.
He Yanzhi nodded slightly.
Without disturbing their parents and children, the two quietly approached the door of the small house where Guan Hongqi lived.
Guan Wenru gently knocked on the door, then pushed it open.
Guan Hongqi was sitting at his desk, staring blankly at a book. Hearing the sound, he turned around and saw his sister and brother-in-law come in together. He was a little surprised and quickly stood up. "Sister, brother-in-law, what's wrong? Did you need something?"
Guan Wenru didn't answer directly, but walked over and lightly patted the back of his head.
Her tone was concerned, yet sharp enough to leave no room for evasion: "That's what I should be asking you. You've been looking down the whole time we were eating, completely distracted. Tell me, what's wrong?"
She stared into her brother's eyes and cut to the chase, "Did Lin Wei contact you?"
Guan Hongqi was stunned, his face filled with disbelief. "Sister?! How...how did you know?"
Guan Wenru and He Yanzhi exchanged a glance, both with an expression of "I knew it."
Guan Wenru pulled up a chair and sat down, sighing, "I went out today to look at shop locations, and I saw her when I passed by the Second People's Hospital in Dongcheng District. She was wearing a nurse's uniform."
My heart sank. She'd applied for a transfer to Beijing so quickly? It seems she hadn't listened to a word we said before the New Year and was determined to keep pestering us.
Hearing this, Guan Hongqi's face darkened further, and he scratched his head in frustration. "In this world, as we all know, a clean background is essential for everything, especially when it comes to job assignments and political vetting..."
He sighed, his tone filled with helplessness, "This afternoon, she went straight to the district library to wait for me. She didn't make a big fuss, she just put on a pitiful act, saying that she was new to Beijing and didn't know anyone, and asked if I could help her get acquainted with the area..."
I firmly refused, but I was really afraid that she would pull this stunt every few days because of her persistent and clingy nature.
The problem is, she hasn't done anything illegal or disorderly, so even if I try to avoid her or guard against her, it's like punching cotton – I can't get a grip! It's really difficult!
Seeing her younger brother's troubled expression, Guan Wenru pondered for a moment before asking, "Hongqi, I'm asking you, would you be willing to move to another place temporarily?"
Guan Hongqi was taken aback. "Change the location? Where to?"
“Go to your brother-in-law’s old house,” Guan Wenru explained. “That’s the family compound of the Army General Hospital. It’s strictly managed and has guard posts. Outsiders can’t get in at all.”
Besides, Lin Wei doesn't know that place either, let alone imagine you'd be staying there. If she can't see you or find you, and after a while, after facing too many rejections, she might feel hopeless and give up. What do you think?
He Yanzhi then spoke up, "That house has been empty all along, and it's regularly cleaned. It's fully equipped with all the necessary living facilities."
"If you move in there, you'll have peace and quiet to focus on your studies, you'll be completely free from her harassment, and you won't have to worry about your safety."
As Guan Hongqi listened to her sister and brother-in-law's arrangements, her eyes gradually brightened.
That's definitely a good idea!
Physical isolation is currently the most effective way to deal with this kind of persistent and aggressive behavior.
His frustration and helplessness lessened considerably, and he looked at his sister and brother-in-law gratefully. "Sister, brother-in-law... thank you! I'm willing to move! This is for the best, so I don't have to see her and get upset!"
Seeing that he agreed, Guan Wenru smiled and said, "Then it's settled. I'll help you pack your things and move in tomorrow. Be careful when you go out."
"Okay! I understand, sis!"
He Yanzhi patted him on the shoulder, "It's nothing, we're family, we'll face it together. Get some rest, I'll drive you to move tomorrow."
...
That evening, Guan Hongqi quietly went back to her room and began packing her luggage.
He didn't have much stuff—just a few clothes and some books—and packed it up quickly.
Lying in bed, he gazed at the familiar outline of the courtyard outside the window, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
On one hand, there's the relief of getting rid of the entanglement; on the other hand, there's the reluctance to leave home and the helplessness towards Lin Wei's obsessive behavior.
......
The next morning, as dawn broke and the family sat around the table for breakfast, Guan Wenru looked at her parents and, in as calm a tone as possible, told them that Lin Wei had been transferred to Beijing.
"Dad, Mom, there's something I need to tell you." Guan Wenru picked up a piece of pickled vegetable with her chopsticks and said casually, "Yesterday I went out and saw Lin Wei. I don't know how she got transferred to a hospital in Beijing as a nurse."
Snap!
Qin Yue dropped her chopsticks on the table, her eyes widening in astonishment. "What? She's been transferred to Beijing? This...it's only been a short time!"
Guan Yuanxiu's face instantly darkened, his brows furrowing tightly as he sighed heavily, "Sigh! This girl... why is she so persistent! What is she trying to do!"
The elderly couple looked at each other, their faces filled with disbelief and worry.
They have lived most of their lives and experienced all sorts of ups and downs.
But I've never seen a young woman like Lin Wei who's so persistent and relentless.
