This series of thunderous commands, and this ruthless determination to protect his brother's clarity at all costs, completely shocked everyone!
The neighbors were taken aback by the commotion and realized that Guan Wenru was serious and determined to investigate thoroughly without any ambiguity!
The wavering sympathy they had felt moments before was instantly replaced by fear, and they all shut their mouths, not daring to utter another word.
Lin Wei, who was still breaking down in tears, stopped crying abruptly when she heard the words "military region leaders," "public security bureau," "hospital leaders," and "face-to-face confrontation."
His face turned deathly pale instantly, and his whole body began to tremble uncontrollably. A chilling fear shot from the soles of his feet to the top of his head!
She only wanted to use public opinion to force the Guan family to comply, so how did it escalate to the point of involving so many organizations, even the police?!
Her lies simply cannot withstand such investigation and confrontation!
Upon receiving his wife's instruction, He Yanzhi responded without hesitation, replying in a deep voice, "Okay! I'll take care of it right away!"
He turned and went into the courtyard, his steps steady and swift, indicating that there was no room for negotiation.
It’s over!
Lin Wei's mind was filled with only these two words.
"No...don't make a phone call!" Lin Wei cried out. As she watched He Yanzhi's tall figure enter the inner courtyard, her legs went weak, and she felt as if all her bones had been removed.
If Guan Wenru hadn't been holding onto her arm tightly, she would have almost collapsed to the ground.
A tremendous fear gripped her; she could almost see the stern face of her superior, the cold interrogation room of the police station, and Guan Hongqi's disgusted gaze...
She's finished!
Her life is over!
Guan Wenru coldly observed her disheveled and swaying state, feeling no pity whatsoever. Instead, he turned to his still sulking youngest son and said:
"Shengsheng, go and bring a chair for this Aunt Lin so she can sit and 'wait patiently'."
He Sheng turned his head away, snorted, and turned his back to Lin Wei.
He demonstrated his stance through his actions…
Do you want me to move a chair for this wicked woman?
No way!
Lin Wei couldn't care less about anything else at that moment.
She snapped out of her daze, her survival instinct kicking in, and grabbed Guan Wenru's arm as if it were her last lifeline. Tears streamed down her face as she stammered an apology:
"Sister Wenru! Sister Wenru, I was wrong! I really know I was wrong! Please, don't make the phone call! Don't go to the leaders! Don't call the police!"
She shook her head frantically, trying to refute everything she had said before. "I didn't say that! I didn't say Hongqi bullied me! I didn't say anything happened between us! I didn't say he didn't want me! None of those things were my words! They were all... they were all just guessing!"
She was so eager to clear her name that she was even willing to throw the blame back at them.
Guan Wenru let her grab her arm, the cold smile on her lips becoming more pronounced, but she still didn't respond to her words.
She suddenly raised her head, her icy gaze sweeping over the group of silent neighbors like a searchlight, her voice carrying a chilling edge:
"Neighbors, did you all hear that? This Comrade Lin Wei said it herself, she never said anything bad about my brother Guan Hongqi, never said he bullied anyone, and never said anything about clothes or anything private!"
Her tone suddenly shifted, becoming sharp and intimidating:
"Then where did you all come from, making such credible statements about 'daring to do it but not daring to admit it,' 'ruining that girl's life,' and 'being a snob who loves the rich and hates the poor'? Huh?"
Her gaze swept across the faces of the ringleaders like a knife:
"Could it be that you neighbors can't stand seeing my family's red flag thriving, so you're deliberately making things up to smear and frame this veteran?!"
"If that's really the case, then when the police arrive later, I'll have a good look into how this deliberate defamation, disruption of neighborhood relations, and damage to the reputation of soldiers should be treated! Who should be spoken to?!"
The words "Public Security Bureau" struck the neighbors' hearts like a heavy hammer once again!
They were just speaking off the cuff, or perhaps blinded by jealousy; they never imagined they would get into such big trouble.
Seeing that Guan Wenru was determined to fight to the death and wanted to drag them down with him, they all panicked!
The old woman who had been criticizing most vehemently was the first to jump out, pointing at the limp Lin Wei, and shouted angrily:
"Oh my! Wenru, you can't wrong us! It was clearly her! She was the one who said 'the clothes are with her,' blushed and looked embarrassed, and asked if we were disgusted by her household registration! Wasn't her meaning obvious? She deliberately led us to think that way!"
“That’s right!” another auntie quickly chimed in, eager to clear her name. “She was the one who spoke unclearly and made veiled accusations! We were fooled by her!”
"Yes! She misled us! This girl is so malicious! She's shameless and wants to drag us down with her!"
In an instant, all the blame shifted, pointing directly at Lin Wei, who was trying to shirk responsibility.
The neighbors all chimed in, accusing her of being shameless, malicious, and deliberately misleading others.
As Lin Wei listened to the overwhelming accusations and looked at the faces that instantly turned to disgust and anger, she felt dizzy.
She tried to retort, "I didn't! You're lying! It was yourselves..."
Her voice was drowned out by the angry clamor of the crowd, sounding so pale and powerless.
Her meticulously planned media offensive not only failed completely, but also plunged her into a desperate situation where she became the target of public criticism and condemnation.
She slumped to the cold ground, her face ashen, finally understanding what it meant to "lift a stone only to drop it on one's own foot."
