Chapter 7 Arrangement

After Guan Wenru comforted her for a while, Guan Wanxin finally calmed down.

The family entered Guan Wanxin's study.

Guan Wenru then expressed her thoughts, "Grandma, I know why you want me to marry a soldier, but Han Haoxian is a person of bad character, so I can't marry him. However, I have found a suitable marriage partner. You all know him; he is Grandpa He's grandson, He Yanzhi."

"?!" Guan Wanxin and the others were shocked.

After regaining her senses, Guan Wanxin sighed, "Wenru, Grandma isn't forcing you to get married. If you don't want to get married, we can find other ways. Grandma will definitely be able to protect you both."

Guan Wenru smiled and said, "Grandma, I want to get married. Firstly, I want to do something for our family, and secondly... I won't hide it from you, I have feelings for He Yanzhi."

If I had to choose someone to marry, I would rather marry him.

He Yanzhi had distinguished himself in the military and had already become a regimental commander at a young age; he was far superior to Han Haoxian, who was only a battalion commander.

Guan Hongqi listened from the side, his brows furrowed.

He knew he shouldn't interrupt, but he couldn't help it. "Grandma, Sister, what are you talking about protecting our family? Is something going to happen to us?"

Everyone looked at him at the same time.

Guan Hongqi blinked, raised his hand to scratch the back of his head, "Did I...did I say something wrong?"

Guan Wenru knew that her younger brother was loose with his tongue, and telling him some things now would actually be a problem.

After thinking for a moment, she said, "Hongqi, go outside and chat with Grandma He and Grandpa He for a while. Grandma will go see them later."

Guan Wanxin paused for a moment, "The He family is here?"

Guan Wenru nodded. "They've arrived. Grandpa He and Grandma He are still in the car. They're very understanding and willing to give us time to talk first."

Guan Wanxin nodded and then told Guan Hongqi to hurry outside to take care of the guests.

As soon as Guan Hongqi left, Guan Wanxin looked at her granddaughter and said, "Come here, come to Grandma."

When Guan Wenru sat down in front of her, Guan Wanxin gently stroked her long hair, "I'm sorry you were wronged last night. It was Grandma who misjudged people."

"Grandma, this has nothing to do with you. It's just that the Han family is too good at pretending and has fooled us all."

Guan Wanxin stroked her head, "You truly are my most beloved granddaughter. You have the same personality as me. If you encounter a scumbag in the future, you'll have to cut your losses as quickly as you do now! But... how did you guess Grandma's purpose in letting you marry into the Han family?"

There are some sensitive things they almost never talk about in front of their children.

So she was also surprised that Guan Wenru would notice something was wrong.

Guan Wenru's eyes darkened. "Li's youngest daughter was my college classmate. We were in class that day when she was suddenly called away. Later we learned that her family had been accused of a crime, their property was confiscated, and they were sent to the countryside."

Although there weren't many cases after the Lunar New Year this year, if you count carefully, there have been about 10 cases, and the people in each of those cases who had their homes raided and were sent to the countryside were all either rich or powerful.

If you think about it carefully, you can guess that our family's situation isn't much better, and we might end up like them someday.

Grandma, you've always loved me the most, but you suddenly forced me to get married. There must be a reason for that.

I thought about it all day yesterday and finally figured it out. You probably know something, so you want to do everything you can to protect our family and our valuables.

Guan Wanxin was very pleased that her granddaughter was so smart.

She patted her granddaughter's back. "Since you've already guessed it, then Grandma won't hide it from you anymore. Our family has indeed been targeted. Although Grandma has already donated a lot of our family wealth, once the world becomes chaotic, having money becomes a sin."

Our house is in such a prime location that countless people are eyeing this courtyard, and there are probably people who want our antiques and calligraphy.

I reckon it won't be long before some people break into our house under some unfounded pretext.

Grandma isn't afraid of having the family property confiscated; Grandma just wants you all to be able to live well.

You're a pretty girl, so if you're sent to a remote, impoverished area, who knows what dangers might arise.

Grandma didn't dare take that risk, so she could only force you to marry into a family with impeccable military credentials; they could protect you.

Guan Wenru understands everything.

She hugged Guan Wanxin, and two lines of tears streamed down her face.

In her past life, Grandma had also made arrangements, trying to find a way to survive for everyone.

But the movements were still a little slow.

On June 1st, the Guan family's home was indeed raided.

Because she married into the Han family, she was not sent to a farm for labor reform.

But Grandma, Father, Mother, and my younger brother all went to the farm.

The environment there was poor, and many people would beat or curse the so-called capitalists.

Her family members all died within a few years of arriving at the farm.

In this lifetime, she will never let her family suffer such a thing again.

She gripped Guan Wanxin's hand tightly, "Grandma, Mom and Dad, take my brother abroad."

Upon hearing this, Guan Wanxin immediately shook her head. "No, we absolutely cannot go abroad. Your older brother and sister-in-law are secret researchers. We don't know which unit they are in, and we can't contact them at all. If someone in our family goes abroad, it might harm them."

Guan Wenru pursed her lips.

She knew this would be the outcome.

She had lived a lifetime, so she knew that her elder brother and sister-in-law were actually researchers who developed the atomic bomb.

After the eldest brother and sister-in-law returned from their previous lives, they learned that their grandmother and the others had passed away. They were filled with regret and self-blame.

So when the courtyard house was returned to the Guan family, the eldest brother didn't want anything and wanted her to inherit it all, registering it all in her name.
